As with most people I work hard all week and at the end of the week I look forward to treating myself to something memorable and special and this week I have been craving BBQ. I have my special places but this week I wanted to add to that list of special BBQ places. I truly choose to support and frequent hard working local businesses as mush as possible. When I started my search for a Mom and Pops kinda place for some good local BBQ, I come across Porkies in Apopka in my Google search. I have found a few gems over the years and I was hoping even though they had only been in the business for 8 years that they would fit the bill for some awesome BBQ. I read on their website that they ( I couldnt find anyone else to support the claim ) ranked themselves BEST BBQ in CENTRAL FL. Anyone that has big enough balls to make such a boast like that, then I am willing to give them a try. With that being said, I loaded up and headed to Porkies. When I pulled into their drive, the smell of smoked meats was intoxicating, it smelled so good, I was ready to try one of everything. The staff was friendly and courteous. My fountain coke was good and that is where the quality for the evening ended. In my humble opinion, if you like dry flavorless meats and French fries that are swimming in grease than by all means this is the place. I have traveled the South seeking out the finest BBQ that I can find. Without a doubt, Porkies is one of the worst meals that I have ever had. (I am trying real hard to remember worse). I had the dry rubbed smoked spare ribs. The rub was tasteless. They had small layers of tough meet with huge layers of fat. This tells me that the ribs were probably rushed and the person in charge didnt give a crap about what was being served or maybe he was clueless about the art of slow smoking. My baked beans were almost as if I was eating canned pork & beans with a lot of brown sugar dumped in them. My Brunswick Stew was good. My partner had French Fries that I swear were dripping grease. I ordered a side of brisket in the hope of something being worth the 30 min drive and to my disappointment the brisket was dry, tasteless and chewy. In the end the manager replaced the fries with a dish called Jims Dirty Taters which were very tasty (easily the best thing I had there). I wish I could say something good happened on this experience but when you work hard all week and drive 30 minutes and then you drop $40 (my partners meal included) and come away so dissatisfied, the only good from it is knowing where not to go next Friday!

Terrible experience here! Had a jumbo pulled work s/w combo that came with two sides (mac&cheese and collard greens in my case). The meat was dry and basically tasteless; flavored with the finest plywood that Lowes has to offer. There was a ton of fat left in the meat, so the texture is extremely unpleasing. All six sauces were awful, the "Carolina" variety standing out as being particularly loathesome. Sides are only OK, but come served in this tiny foam shot glass so after two forkfulls you are done. Even the sweet tea was bad; it was so weak I could barely taste it. I grew up in Memphis, live in North Carolina, and in addition to Orlando my job also takes me to Kansas City every couple of months. I have been to many of the legendary BBQ places in this country and I have at least a vague idea of what good Q tastes like. I have often considered Orlando to be a BBQ wasteland and Porkies has done nothing to change that. Maybe I had a rare bad experience; the many reviews to the contrary would certainly support that theory. However I will never go back to this place again. There is just too much good BBQ out there to waste good money (and they certainly take a chunk) on garbage like this. Depening on where you are it may be a long drive but I would certainly recommend 4 Rivers (or even Sonnys) over Porkies. Next time I am in town that is where Ill be going. Sorry Porkies, but you guys suck.

Anticipating a delicious BBQ meal on a busy Friday evening? not at this place, you would think the staff would be fully prepared for rush hour with hot food ready to be served but they werent and as I walked in I realized why, no customers at all only a staff member eating a meal on her break. I reluctantly decided to placed my dine-in order and received a hot plate no I mean a cold meal that I had to send back to be warmed up and was still on the same plate and paid a outrageous price for six pieces of ribs and overcooked fries. Dining out is a tough challenge thats why you have to be firm just for your order to be correct.Sadly disappointed in the so called best BBQ in town better off eating at chilis. 01(15)2016

I have been going their ever since the place has open and i have found that all the food is great! From the ribs to the dirty taters mmmm. The staff are the best the owner takes pride in his food.I have been there on Thursday Night for bike night and you cant believe all the kinds of bikes that are their.I guess what I am trying to say is that if you want some good BBQ with good friends go to Porkies you wont be sorry. PS the black eyed peas, rib eye, pepper vinegar, mac n cheese and collard greens are good too. ..

The meat was cold and very very dry...the sides were so small...maybe a bite and a half from each one....I told the waitress the meat was cold...she took it and brought me another plate ...still cold....only one side was hot....I asked to see the owner and the waitress said he was very busy so they tried to pacify me by giving me some banana pudding.....I spent $10....I never went to a restaurant where the manager said they were too busy to talk to me...

I have gone to Porkies a few times before writing this review just so I can give an over all review of multiple experiences. The sides are smaller than a childs portion and costs way more, the fries are the only side portioned ok. The owner is extremely nasty and has awful customer service. They are crazy slow and the service is not welcoming! I hate giving bad reviews but when the service is constantly poor than I like to let others know.

Sometimes I find a place that does pork well but average on the beef; this place does both extremely well. The smoke is right, the sauces are awesome, love the triple x and the brisket with horseradish sauce is outstanding. Next time Ill have to try their take on yard bird, but we were very impressed with the meat so far. Pass on the mac and cheese but get the collard greens with some pepper sauce, wow!

Ordered the lunch jumbo pulled pork sandwich on garlic toast to go, and was a little disappointed when I saw the size unwrapped. Well, I was mistaken. There was so much pulled pork stuffed in there, I made 2 1/2 sandwiches out of the meat. Also, their sauces are amazing! Sides were decent, service was honest & friendly, decor & feel of the place was very welcoming. Check this place out if you like BBQ!
