If Colony Grill isnt the epitome of a local neighborhood joint, then I dont know what is. First off, although some are excusing it, it needs to be unequivocally said that the service sucks here. I waited at the door for a minute or 2 while the waitstaff and the manager stood around gawking. Finally I got seated, and I quickly ordered a beer and my pizza. Then the place completely filled up. It took a good half hour to get a pizza here, and several tables got pies before me even though they sat down afterwards. Look, Im from Brooklyn. We will treat out-of-towners accordingly if theyre rude or if a regular comes in and needs something quick. But this place was just blatant about the whole "locals only" thing. How do I know for sure? The beady-eyed little rodent of a manager was scowling at me the whole damn time like I was from outer space. And not everyone who came in was a regular based on the conversation I heard. These people just plain old-fashioned dont give a you-know-what. Pathetic service aside, the rating here is for the pizza alone, which was solid but not quite up to the hype. The best part is the crust, which seems to be fried in the pan and is especially delicious around the edges. The sauce is a little thin and the cheese is of the oily, cheap variety, but it works here. I also got the pie with sausage and hot oil. The sausage was carried mostly by the fennel and other herbs in it, but worked nicely. The hot oil was good at first, but its redundant after awhile. At first I thought it was unique and added a nuance to the pie, but in the end it just made it greasier than it already was. The stinger pepper in the middle was a good touch and was really spicy. I wouldve enjoyed it more if I hadnt had to flag down 3 different waitresses over the course of 15 minutes to get a glass of water. This is the kind of places where its all about balance, and the individual components work together well so that the total package is better than the individual ingredients.

Talk about thin, crispy crust. This joint has perfected it. Colony Grill is situated in what looks like a very run-down area of Stamford. The surroundings are very "industrial", pock marked with wide swaths of parking lot areas - at least thats my impression. Inside, its your usual pub atmosphere, with diner booths, long Irish style bar, dark woods and low lighting. I sat down at the bar, got me a Stella and ordered a pie with hot oil. Colonys pizza looks a little odd because it doesnt have the border of crust that Im so accustomed to seeing in a traditional pie. The contents literally bubbles on top, almost flirting with the danger of being completely burnt and ruined. Ive written other pizza reviews where I have described the pies to have a sturdy crust effectively holding all the toppings in place, but this one really gets it right. The crust is sheet thin, truly sturdy and crunchy, yet still light at the same time. As you get to the edge, that noticeable crunchiness is such a satisfying texture. There are no problems with this pizza except my preference has always been for more pliant crust. Also, the cheese and sauce on top of Colonys slice, while satisfying in texture and taste, is not outstanding. Because its so overcooked, when the cheese cools a bit, it gets very tough. Without the sauce underneath providing a layer of moisture, the cheese could have easily turned into a frico. But really, Im splitting hairs here. The pizza here is very good; Im just trying to justify why I like my NYC pizza a little more. Otherwise, Colony does it right. Its just a slightly different execution, and therefore comes down to a matter of preference. Other considerations: Service was good and friendly.

Grew up eating pizza here, I cant imagine Stamford without it. It is a bit different from the original feel but has maintained most of its nostalgia. I admit I would have never expected to see salad pizza there but I think its a positive change overall. My favorite is the onion pizza with lots of hot pepper flakes. Its hard to wait till it cools off long enough to keep from burning the roof of your mouth but you will be sorry if you dont. You no longer need an entire holder full of napkins and that is a pretty good thing as well. They also added in Guinness and I never thought I would see that either, its a far cry from the old cheep pitchers we used to get, but again a positive change. We all miss Fitz, I cant go there without seeing his face in my memory, he is a colony (Stamford) legend.

We went to this place and ordered 4 pizzas. One of the pizzas had a roach baked into it and when we showed one waitress, she looked to the ceiling. The next waitress didnt even seemed surprised and informed us her father owned the place and that she had never seen roaches in the kitchen. She did not even give us a free dinner. She also informed us they spray every 2 weeks for roaches- every 2 weeks?!!! That is a SERIOUS roach problem-especially if its right on top of the pizza. I also had hair in my glass. This would be a restaurant youd see on the show "kitchen nightmares" I would strongly advise people not to eat at this unsanitary restaurant. I have never had such a bad experience at a restaurant- EVER

Colony Grill in STamford is an embarrassment to the Colony Grill Family If there was a zero star option I would give it to these morons. Its unfortunate because their pizza, like the other locations is good but the staff is TRASH. Starting with one particular bartender who is there literally every time I go for a pie. She is rude and just my absolute least favorite person who has ever handed me a beer in my entire life. The manager..also dumb..he is lacking every quality possible to make for a smooth operation. I hope this place closes down or they get rid of their garbage staff. Its unfortunate because they are open late and I live locally but I would rather starve then support local garbage.

The best pizza Ive had yet in Fairfield County! Extra thin crust with a limited choice of toppings comma but all the ones that matter! Try the hot oil if you like it spicy or at stingers if you really like it hot! All of which are amazing!!! I know it doesnt sound like a good idea but believe me it is Dash try a pepperoni pizza topped with salad! Its dressed with just the right amount of a light vinaigrette and its amazing!!!

I have been a fan of the Colony grill for many years but will never go back the new owners (they inherited the bar )fired the best waiter Tommy (FITZY JR) for his "bad attitude " . Tommy always was pleasant and always had a smile ! It is a shame a Stamford legend is going to the roaches ! My family, friends and I will be going to Remos or Vinnys now !

Pizza and a bar, the combo is hard to beat. They basically have one pizza base and you could choose from the toppings which include their famous "hot oil". I guess depending on the pepper the oil could sometimes be spicier than usual. Ample parking on the side and back and the back door is open during the summer months with some seating outside.
