This place is amazing. Great value, great food. The atmosphere is so cozy and romantic, as well. I did find a hair in my potatoes and one under my steak, but everyone was so nice and attentive all night I almost felt bad telling them. The waiter was extremely apologetic, and they quickly brought me another meal. (Sadly the original steak I was eating was cooked PERFECTLY but the replacement was a little more in the medium territory). Otherwise, however, this was a great experience and were always looking for excuses to go back. Furthermore, I discovered my mother and her family used to go here when she was growing up and it was just as amazing back then from what it sounds. Highly recommended!

We dont know where to start. I feel its like a family Sunday Dinner, every time we come to the table. From the hostess to the wait staff to the cook, bartender. They treat you like family. The Food is remarkable and out of this world. Come to the Smithy and be wowed... The Cheese and crackers are the right touch. The Complimentary Salad bar is over the top. If this will be your first time at "The Smithy" you will come as strangers but leave as family as Family always returns. Come soon and visit your new family.

I usually try this restaurant once a year . I do it because I find that this restaurant isnt really that great. It is known for their great steaks, but they never seem to cook the steak right. If you ask for medium rare, or medium , they cook it completely wrong. It will either be very rare or very over cooked. Additionally, I find that they over cook the steaks most of the time, resulting in the loss of flavor/ it being very bland.

My absolute FAVORITE restaurant since High School (Trumbull High, Class of 1976). The Smithy hasnt changed one bit in all that time.........and, thats a good thing! The incredible food, the friendly staff and the atmosphere is second to none. Every time I walk into the Smithy, I have nothing but great memories! Do yourself a favor....eat there! This is the best. Has not changed it s mission since it opened 40 years ago great salad bar the best blue cheese dressing ever. The quality and quantity of the menu is "old old school "and is soooo comfortable never fails in any respect .Well worth going and enjoying the food the cheese board and the very capable and knowledgeable staff A personal favorite for many many years!!!!

I absolutely love the smithy. I live in shelton and we have many restaurants but I still make the drive to Monroe for their food. The atmosphere is great and so is the food. If you are looking for a great meal at a reasonable price smithy is the place to go. Michelle is usually our waitress and she is very attentive. Go there, you will not be disappointed!

I literally just went there, and the steak was great. There arent enough of these small steakhouses still around. This place is a gem. Ill agree that maybe the menu could use a little update, but what they have is classic and delicious. If you dont like the smithy, then please keep eating the garbage they serve at the outback & longhorn.

There really is no reason to eat here. There are several better options nearby. The place is terribly outdated (menu and decor) and they keep the restaurant very dark so you cant see what youre eating. I also saw a waitress chase down a patron in the parking lot for not tipping enough for the poor service they received. Very classy...

We walked in 30 minutes before they closed and they still sat us cheerfully. I love that they have self-serve cheese and crackers as a snack while you wait. Wine was tasty. For the grand finale, the Filet Mignon was fabulous!

Love this place! Please dont ever change a thing. Bring a headlamp if you dont like dark but warm places. Outstanding steaks with great potatoes. If you dont like this place go back to the city and leave us alone!

Ive been to many restaurants that i love, but the Smithy is definetely at the top of my list. Great steak, bread, salad bar, chicken, overall everything. Small quaint homey atmosphere. Just a great place!
