Please stay out of this place !!! We ordered chole bhature from which we could sense horrible smell (maybe it was cooked in old oil).and thali meals were horrible, every thing in the plate was cooked in old oil.The only thing what ( i thought)was actually ok to give to my 2 year old kid was curd.when i tasted it before giving to her,oh my god it was very very sour and bitter when my hubby asked the owner he said its home made and due to the water there it tasted so..Come on this is USA and water here is really good everywhere.maybe even that was a month old.My kid after having few items there vomited immediately ,after coming home our stomach was very upset. We had been there previously then it was ok but now due to cost cutting its standard has drastically come down. People usually after going to CT Hindu valley temple and Saibaba temple feel this restaurant is the better option as its very nearby. There is another restaurant named Haveli which is just 3 miles(5 minutes) from this one.where everything comparatively tastes good.

Fantastic FOOD!!! We will not be returning however. This afternoon, we drove an hour to this place. I had glanced at the menu and had decided to order a PILE of food, since I rarely get to have Indian food and I had heard this was so good. The man behind the counter was so rude and bullied me into giving him my order right away, I had no chance to look over the menu and in the end ordered an appitizer one main dish and one dessert. (It was WAY more than enough). My point is, where I had spent $25, I was coming in planning to spend $100 on take out. We gobbled down the food, and as I was leaving, another man walked in and asked "are you open?" The same guy said "Yes". So I guess you were just closing for us? One more point, I gave the guy a four dollar tip, (for counter, no waiting on tables) but had he not been such a douche, and waited for me to order the MASSIVE amount of food I had intended...he woulda got a twenty. Just ask any of my friends how I tip, I have worked for them all of my life.

This review is long overdue, we have tried Udupi Bhavan on many occasions and it has always provided joy to our taste buds. Simple South Indian fare is what you should eat here. Thali is good if you want to try a typical Lunch or Dinner at Indian household. I have tried most of the South Indian fare on offer at Udupi and it’s quite good, Idly, Wada, Sambar, Rasam, Dosas (lots of variety to choose from) . Sweets Shira, Ras Malai is also good. They also serve North Indian food, I haven’t tried here coz I am more than Happy to eat light South Indian cuisine here. Ambiance is nothing to be written about, simple, it takes me back to some of the Udupi restaurants around Mangalore – Udupi belt. I have lived in Mangalore for few years and I get to relive that experience here in CT, who would have thought?

Belive me The owner of the restaurent is absoulte greedy fellow ....He is only after money ...He just makes average food and acts as if he is making great service to the Indian socoety ...His South indian Sambar and chutney is wost on the earth ..Its best example how to make worst chutney and sambar ... He says special Dosa and ask whats the special he says chilly added to it ..he charges extra $2 for it ..If you want to rate it its probably worst Vegetearin restaurent in Connecticut ..if you want to enjoy Good Indian food I recommend PRIYA at rocky hill or THE AMBASSADOR at Glostnebury ...Please dont visit Udupi Bhavan its worst place ..owner of the restaurent is only for money ad not for better service

Udupi Bhavan is a fabulous vegetarian South Indian Restaurant located near the Connecticut Valley Hindu Temple. We enjoyed eating the masala dosa, idli and sambar, malai kofta, dahi vada, and vegetable pullao. My husband went for the weekend lunch buffet and got lots of wonderful food for only $9 including a masala dosa brought straight to the table. The restaurant is self service and lacks decor but it has clean tables and the staff is helpful and efficient. The restaurant is crowded by Indian families visiting the nearby Hindu temple but there was no line when we arrived. The food is incredibly delicious and we look forward to returning to Udupi Bhavan soon.

This place is awesome! amazing dosas, very authentic south Indian food, great prices, Ive been here countless times and try something new each trip, ive never had a bad meal. Its very simple, order at the counter, not a place for fancy dinner parties, but by far the best Indian cuisine Ive had in Connecticut. The food is all vegetarian, like most Indian diets, and I am a meat lover but its flavorful, succulent, amazing sauce, you just have to go, okay? I cant believe the average rating is so low- like if youre favorite mexican place is chilis (if youre a bland american with bad taste) then you might not like Udupi but otherwise do try it!

Just imagine you are in some part of South India - do you remember the carts that carry Idlies/Dosas/Bajjis..etc? I just love the earthy taste of these road side "Tiffins" that are available on the street - Well we never ever went to them for service or hygiene, we always went to these carts for the EARTHY TASTE! Udupi provides the Earthy Taste - it doesnt provide you with a great ambiance - it doesnt provide you the excellent service - It provides you with that EARTHY TASTE - which to me is so hard to find even in the best Restaurants in Greenwich, CT!

Mediocre tasting South Indian food. If youve never had authentic South Indian food before, this will surely be a good place to start. Nothing too spicy. The coffee is a must have. You may not like the pongal. The vadas and dosas are good. It is a small place with each table seating four. In case you are a larger group, they will quickly arrange a seating depending on how crowded it is when you get there. Finding a table can take a while. Make sure you carry cash to this place. If your bill comes up less than 15$, you need to pay by cash.

The staff are very rude. They didnt even allow my childs stroller in the restaurant - saying that last time someone scared them of suing the restaurant. I had a tough time with my 6 month old. They dont accept cards until a minimum amount(just like the typical stores in India) and they dont serve you well. Food is average, not so good, but people come here just because its the only one closer to the temple, but in my opinion there are other things you can try outside which is worth it.

went in on last Saturday afternoon and they had a buffet and were not satisfied with the quality of food. They say its Udupi and thats just for a name sake, can only suggest that its a vegetarian hotel. Food was below average and i was stumped by these reviews here. these ratings can definitely mislead someone else here. Finally if you are hungry and want only Indian food around that place/area, basically if you have no other choice, you can visit this place. Otherwise, beware!

One guy at counter was veryyyy rude . He started shouting and fighting with my husband just because we asked pickle with parantha . He said nothing is free buy and eat . Very worst food taste also . Parantha was like stone . Who in worls gives parantha without pickle and raita . Thali was utmost waste of 12$ better to have bice buffey somewhere else with this money . We ended up throwing all food in wastebin .
