After eating lunch at The Hornets Nest for the first time today, I can honestly say that I will not be returning. When we walked in, there was a younger woman with a scowl on her face at the counter. We walked up, and waited for her to say something to us signaling she was ready to take our order. Instead, she was counting tip money, and gossiping with the kitchen staff very loudly. After about a minute, she asked us what we wanted in a very annoyed tone. In the middle of my sentence, she turned her head and started talking to another co worker and laughing. How rude is that?! We were so tempted to take our money elsewhere but decided to stick it out after all the raving reviews we read about the food quality. After a long wait, our food was finally ready. When we got it, we werent impressed. Not to mention, we both asked for no tomatoes and received them on our sandwiches. The bread was VERY soggy, and there was barely any avocado on my #21 sandwich. My fiancé and I only ate half of our sandwiches, and as we were walking out the owner stopped us and asked very loudly if the food was good and if we wanted to take our other halves to go. We said no thank you and kept walking. It was a little weird to be stopped literally as we opened the door, and felt ingenuine. Overall it was just a very unwelcoming experience, and just plain strange. The food is NOT worth the hype.

An excellent family run deli with a breakfast & lunch menu. Dino and his team know how to make a great sandwich! Quality is consistently high, menu selections cover an entire wall, its high traffic, well organized for takeout or eat-in, with an outdoor patio along the river too. Very supportive of Branford teams and civic organizations. The Hornets Nest is a Branford staple and one of my favorite spots! Im torn. I really am. The cashier was grumpy, I think, and didnt look me in the eye. Avoiding eye contact really puts me off. Anyway, food was pretty good but pricey for a deli. ~11.50 for a panini and fries. The buffalo chkn was decent but not enough bleu cheese!! I should have ordered the sandwich with turkey, cran sauce, and stuffing. I hear thats pretty bangin. But yeah I want to like this place but it didnt live up to what I expected!!

Ive been coming here everyday for the past two years, and it never fails my food is always amazing!! The crew is fantastic super friendly. Dino the bossman is the best he is always making sure everyone is satisfied with their meals. This place doesnt just serve you a meal and send you on your way, they take the time to build relationships with their customers. A+ from me thanks for being so great guys!

Hornets Nest is the best. Word of mouth is getting around but if you didnt already know: Hornets Nest is the best. Unfortunately it closes at 3(?) so no dinner, just delicious breakfast and lunches. Sandwiches are great, and theyve really upped their salad game so. Plenty of seating and they need it. Owner is a great guy, too. Often brings out the food himself if youre staying in house to eat it.

The sandwiches were made so quickly and were good (bread was a little stale but still okay!). The patio was very cute by the river! Not the friendliest of staff though- the front cashier rolled her eyes at me when I mentioned the reviews were not wrong about quick service...eh- all in all a great little shop!

Great food - reasonable prices - great service. Their daily specials are indeed that! Fantastic soups too - creative and perfect seasoning. I go frequently and Im never disappointed. This is one of those places all the "locals" know about.

Didnt like the bread. Tried it a few times but bread is doughy like old subway bread. Fillings are good but they need different bread vendor. I go to lynns next door still.
