My friends painted this place up to be the greatest sushi place on the face of the planet. I suppose I should blame them for being so disappointed. I was told repeatedly that I would never have better sushi, that it would be better than anything Ive had and Ill never go to another place. Well, when I had a piece of my sushi roll, the lord Jesus Christ did not appear before me and tell me the meaning of my existence...so I guess it wasnt what they made it out to be. But seriously, its your regular above-average sushi place. Very good sushi, the topped rolls are piled very high, the rice was good (though they use ALOT) and the fish was very fresh. Was it the best I ever had? No. I still think Shiki in Babylon tops it by far. The place was drab and looked run down. It was so crowded that you couldnt hear yourself talk, let alone enjoy your food. Seating was so close together that I felt like I was in a high school cafeteria...its very distracting to try and have a nice dinner with my wife with a woman who apparently hates sushi gawking, sneering and making faces at my plate all night long sitting abot 32 inches away from me. Service is very good, prices are pretty high, and overall I wasnt as wowd as I was told that I would be. There are better places out there, but its probably the best in this general area. Shiki tops it by far.

By far, my favorite sushi in the area!! Marvin and I were really craving sushi the other day so we decided to try it out again. We ordered the appetizer KMAC sliders which were fantastic. The "bun" was extremely crispy but light at the same time. The sliders consisted of chopped tuna, avocado, rice and tempura flakes which were an amazing combination. I honestly have to say, this appetizer was the favorite part of this meal! For the main course, Marvin got beef teriyaki and I got two rolls, "Out of control" which was tuna and avocado rolled with topiko as well as the "Remixed Caterpillar" roll which was a delicious combination of eel, avocado, tuna, tempura flakes and a different type of sweet eel sauce. Both of these main courses were not only beautifully presented but they also tasted just as good at they looked. My only complaint is that the restaurant is on the smaller side so the wait may be a little bit long and when you are seated it might be a bit cramped, definitely a more intimate environment rather than coming here with a group. I highly recommend Kotobuki if you are craving high quality sushi or just a really great meal in general.

The food is overrated and the management and service are just awful. First our drink order was messed up. Were not picky so we just drank what we got. However, a few bites into my meal I realized that I had not received what I ordered. The manager snatched my plate from me and then came back with what I had actually ordered, making sure to note that she gave me less because I ate "a lot" of the wrong order. Its absurd how she took on such an accusatory tone and made a point to penalize me despite the fact that it was a mistake on their part. Im a pretty easygoing diner and I would have been willing to just keep what I got and even paid the difference had she tried to discuss it with me -instead I got a snippy and bogus attitude. Never coming here again, the food isnt even worth it. Go to Kurofune in Commack instead.

We usually love going to Kotobuki and ordering sushi sashimi special with extra oysters and tuna carpaccio. This mothers day oysterst were the worst ever, just warm and not tasty. Tuna was overdone... Also the phone kept ranning there and the management did not care a bit about it. I just read one of the reviews complaining that they could not place an order. So here you go, they just ignored it. Sushi sashimi special was almost as good as it used to be, only a several pieces of tuna looked not as fresh as it used to... Oh, and prices went up since January too. Based on our previous experience I would give 5 stars, but this time I will give 4 considering previous only positive experience. We will give the place another chance some time in the future. Hopefully, it gets back to its excellent normal!

I consider myself a foodie and I have to say, Kotobuki is the winner hands down for the best sushi on Long Island. Ive been to them all, Shiki, Tomo etc. . . and theyre all really good, but Kotobuki is the best. Really fresh sushi, great service, nice ambiance. Its worth the wait, and yes, there will be a wait. I live around the corner so i just pop my head in, leave my name and come back when its too busy. Best time is between 5:30 (opening) and 6:30. Anytime after that and there is a wait. Do yourself a favor and sit at the sushi bar and watch artistry at its best. And man do they make a lot of sushi. I recommend any of the rock and roll rolls, futomaki, yaki udon, seafood teriyaki and pretty much everything else. By the way, maybe its just me, but their teriyaki is outstanding.

My favorite Japanese place. I miss it since I left NY. My favorites are the salmon carpaccio, the nabeyaki udon, the salmon avocado salad, and the hiyashi wakame. The horseradish sauce with the carpaccio is excellent, and we often ask for more. The service is great, and the waiters really got to know me and my friends. The price has gone up almost every time weve been there, but even so, its still extremely inexpensive (for the quality). The sushi for 1/2/3 is usually enough for 1.5x-2x the people.

For years I was a Kotobuki fan and sent many people their way. Service...not the best, wait...atrocious, food...smoke and mirrors. Tuna avocado salad is covered in so much spicy mayo you cant taste the fish. Sushi always has some sort of sauce to mask the fishy flavor. One night they had us waiting so long we left and found a small place in Nesconset. Boy am I glad Kotobuki was busy that night as it opened my mind to what sushi and sashimi should be!

I order to go all the time. Told my husband that I wanted it for Mothers day. They opened at 5 pm. Started calling just before 5 pm. The phone would ring put you on hold, go silent, then hang up on you. After redailing several times to get put on hold and repeat the process, it switched to a high pitched fax tone and hung up. Will order elsewhere. Bad way to treat loyal customers.

Food is consistent and decent. That being said the surrounding ambiance is congested and there is really no privacy to converse at the table because of the tightly packed table spacing. Additionally, the servers are hard to understand because of their broken english. Also, I wish they would serve more local sashimi/sushi from the fish that are indigenous to our waters.

I enjoy the Sushi here; however, there is always a long wait for a table and they do not accept reservations. There is no bar area where you can sit comfortably and wait. The waiting area is small and always crowded on the weekends. The seating is way to close together. They need to expand the space or move to another location. Take out orders take too long.
