I visited First and Last as it was near my hotel and recommended by the front desk clerk. Let me preface my review by saying that my job requires me to travel a great deal. I live in the New Orleans area and my home town is known for the cuisine. These things do not make me an expert by any stretch of the imagination but I can say that Im accustomed to good restaurants and finding a good meal when traveling is disappointing more often than not. I read the reviews here on google and although a few said the service was hit and miss, they all said the food was good so I decided to give it a try. My first impression was the lack of a hostess at the front door when I walked in and when she did appear she asked me if I needed something. I said Id like a table. OH! (here we go, I thought). I was seated at a small wobbly table at the top of the stairs, 2 menus were placed on my table and she left. Then seconds later my waitress appeared and things went uphill from there. When I asked for suggestions she didnt just automatically rattle off the most expensive items on the menu, she gave good advice. The lasagna, served with a salad, was very meaty and delicious. There was a basket of assorted breads which were hot and tasty. Although I wouldnt recommend sitting at the same table, I did have the opportunity to see much of the food being served elsewhere in the restaurant (as I was on the path from the kitchen) and everything looked great. As for the service, my waitress was fast, efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. I didnt wait for attention at any time during my visit and had everything I wanted. Thanks for a good meal!

Had stopped going here and having forgotten why, we returned for lunch last week. We had spaghetti and meatballs and the combo of meatball/sausage/salad with spaghetti. Food came out fast. Spaghetti that was served with the meatballs was overdone, very easy to overdo angel hair. On my plate, there was maybe 3 teaspoons of sauce, barely enough to cover the meatball/sausage and certainly not enough to mix with the spaghetti. Not being able to properly serve/prepare the most basic of Italian meals looks like a problem to me. I think the best part of the meal was the free bread they make and provide. I heard another customer behind me asking why there was no raisin bread with it, he was told thats only on weekends but I have to agree with providing it regularly. Anyhow, I keep making the point that you cant throw a rock in Hartford County without hitting an Italian restaurant, and while these guys are long standing competitors, they seem to have fallen out of the race here. I really dont see much need to return when there are so many choices around.

Had dinner here tonight 7/10/16. When I walked in, I wasnt greeted by the two hostesses standing behind the podium. I had to say wed like dinner for a party of two. One girl grabs the menus and doesnt even say follow me. We follow her to our table, she places the menus on the table, and walks away. She doesnt even say your waitress will e with you soon, or enjoy your meal. She had the personality of a wet noodle. My waitress Danielle was ok, but after she served our meal she never came back to our table to check on us. I wanted a refill on my drink and would of spent more money on that drink. Overall she wasnt the best, but wasnt the worst.. She wouldnt be working for me.. My meal was decent and Id come back, but you definitely need a staff meeting to get these workers in check.. When I left, the two hostesses should of said thanks for coming, or have a good night.. Instead they were huddled up, looking at their cell phones.. You need better managers that make sure your customer service is up to par ...

If I could have given this 0 stars, I would have. This was quite possibly one of the worst Italian meals Ive ever had. I ordered chicken parmesan, which is pretty difficult to mess up. The chicken came out cold, with the "melted" cheese on top already congealed. I had to send it back, which I never do. When it was brought back out, it was hot and the cheese had re-melted. In addition, the marinara sauce had no flavor - it tasted like they had opened up a can of Hunts tomato sauce and poured it over the pasta and chicken. It was awful and still had that acidic tomato taste. I couldnt believe it when I saw bottles of their sauce for sale at the front of the restaurant! I ate about 3-4 bites of my chicken. I packed the rest to take home figuring maybe I could "doctor" it up to make it edible, but ended up throwing it out - it wasnt even worth trying. This was the FIRST time weve been to this restaurant in years, and it will be the LAST time I ever go.

Ehhh. Food is pretty lame. I was stuck in the Residence Inn right behind them for a bit so I tried it a few times out of necessity. I once asked for a burger, medium rare, It came to me well, well done. Tasteless. Im not the kind of guy to nit pick and send it back because I was hungry and it was getting late. When the waitress came over and asked if there was anything she could get me, I just responded "How about a decent burger"? She had the most blank look on her face but at least everyone else at the table had a good laugh. I gave it 2 stars just because theres beer there. Pretty dirty also btw.

I give this a four because my wife has loved this place for years - especially the pasta. She likes the sauce also. I think the layout of the place is too cavern like and just doesnt feel that comfortable. Not sure what they can do but maybe pay a bit of attention when you are seated because they have other options if you dont like the area you are seated in - the food IS good! adding to this as we ate at the bar on a Saturday on November - dirty, unresponsive wait staff and very disorganized.

092916. I always have a good time here, and thats why I keep going back. Wings are amongst the best in the area. Decent beer selection. Calimari and pizza are superb. I dont understand people from Avon who complain about this place. It is what it is. Go to "on 20" if you want steak tartare with truffle butter. If you want a good time time for family and friends in a warm and friendly environment with quality food and attentive wait staff come to First and Last.

The worst pizza ever. Hadnt been to F&L for over 10 yrs & what a disappointment! This was a regular pizza & it arrived soggy & drooping & tasted like soup. When I brought this to the attention of our waitress she said, Oh Yes, they should have cooked it more. No offer to redo the Order which in hindsight I should have insisted on. What a sad sight..... should have insisted on. What a sad sigh
