I love how Black Bear Diner opens early and closes late and it is always crowded with families and diners on weekend brunch hours. Their menu screams high volume and you will not walk away hungry unless you order their "fit and balance" meal like I did one time by mistake. The regular, aka greasy and delicious entrees are about to make you gain 3 pounds if you can swallow them down in one setting. We have tried many things from sweet pancakes and waffles, to scrambled eggs, steak and eggs and omelets with sausage and bacon. They are also kids-friendly with drawing menu, crayon and special straw cups. The downside of this location is it is always busy on weekends and require some wait. Once you are in, you might have to wait even more depends on where you sit, which waiter you get, etc. But dont be afraid to complain because they will recognize their lack of services and take good care of you.

Weve been here at least 5 times. My husband orders the same thing every single time, chicken fried steak. And I get the fried chicken. Tonight they were a mess. Cold potatoes for both, no crayons, no Sierra Nevada or pint glasses. I asked for a dessert spoon for my daughters mac and cheese, they had none clean. Handed me a soup spoon that was dirty. However, I didnt tell the waitress about the spoon. The manager comped a dinner, brought us another order of mac and cheese, fries, and hot potatoes. Honestly way more than I expected which is exactly why I would continue to drive the 20 minutes for my husband to get that dang chicken fried steak he loves. Also, Ive never seen them so disfunctional . This was an off night.

I went in expecting a pretty average Applebees/TGI Fridays experience for breakfast (or IHOP, etc - simple diner experience), so my expectations were not very high to begin with. The only stars here are for the friendly service. It was generally pretty slow, and while I understand they said they were going through some transition, and it was kinda busy (not moreso for a Sunday morn than Ive seen anywhere else), it made the experience less than OK. Food was not very good, and we ordered very simple omelette and pancake dishes. Not sure if theyre under new management now, but I probably wont go back to find out. Better of going to Heavenly Bistro down Treat Road for brunch/breakfast.

Food is good and affordable and service is good also. HOWEVER, the main reason for the 2 star rating is that its VERY LOUD and appears to be a hot spot for parents to bring their untrained kids. The guardians/parents seem unconcerned about the noise level their kid(s) are putting out as they do little to nothing to manage their kid(s). Sadly for those of us trying to enjoy a nice quietish meal, we cant. Ive tried to endure the kid/noise problem on many occassions, but its become unbearable (no pun intended) and I will seek other restaurants to dine at. Sorry, but I just cant recommend this place because of the noise/kids.

By far the best Black Bear location in the bay. The service is always on point. They are willing to go the extra mile. The food is great. They even sell split pea soup on Tuesdays like they did where I grew up. The servers are consistent and friendly. You dont keep employees for years in the service industry unless you are doing something right. I make the extra trek out to this location when I want Black Bear because the 3 locations closer to me just dont make the cut.

I opeted for the California Bacon Benedict and a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. Food was hot, delicious and delivered to my table in less than 10 minutes. :) Portions are huge. My Waitress, Rene was friendly and attentive along with the rest of staff. Plenty of Parking, even though its in a fairly large shared plaza (Jamba juice,Safeway, Panera, Starbucks to name a few) My bill for two items came to $16.76. Id say fair amount.

Took my family there on 7/13 for my grandsons 4th birthday dinner. Worst service that I have ever had from Black Bear. Our server was rude, forgot to even ask if I wanted soup or salad with my steak dinner, which I never got!!! And then, when I went to pay my bill, the cashier tried to short me $10 change and even argued the point with me. I will never return to this Black Bear again!!!

One of my favorite places. Breakfast all day! Or anything else you can think of. Custom breakfast burrito or green beans instead of potatoes. Great desserts to eat there or take home kids love the ice cream sundaes with huckleberry ice cream! Saturday and Sunday mornings are crowded so be prepared to wait. Try one of the omlettes youll thank me..

We had a rather tastless dinner tonight. Everything seemed to have come out of a can or box. Service was only fair. I had to ask for more coffee three times and finally a busboy got it for me. It is a nice looking place in a good location but not one I would return to. Howard in Pleasant Hill

Rene got me the Best breakfast because it was exactly what I wanted! Bacon was thick and delicious, hash browns were extra crispy on both sides and the eggs over easy were to perfection! Thank you Rene, you are the best; your attitude is delightful, and your service is impeccable!

Black Bear diner is a comfortable place with comforting food. The menu option are varied, the portions are huge and the atmosphere is relaxing. My wife and I are regulars and the servers remember us - which is always nice. Well continue to go every few months while were nearby!

This location has a passable breakfast, but the lunch and dinner are both rather poor. It is very popular in the morning, perhaps because there arent any good places nearby. My personal experiences here have all been fair to poor, so Ive stopped going here.

Generous portions. Good flavors. Hot food could be hotter and cold food could be colder. Lettuce and fruit are a bit gamey and wilted. Booths lack belly room. Food is slow to come out of the kitchen and wait staff is pokey on beverages and refills.

Great Place to take kids (free dessert included with kids menu), friendly, cozy, generous portions, breakfast served all day, sometimes a wait but overall a good experience. Looks like some new items on list, definitely a +. Would recommended..

Excellent food, Great Breakfast! Although sometimes their service lacks: long wait from time to time, occasionally crusty and/or crayon scribbled menus, they tend to train new employees a lot... I still love you Black Bear Diner

Just finished an exceptional lunch. Cashew chicken salad is enough for 2. Our lunch took longer than usual and the waitress and manager were apologetic and made it right. HIGHLY recommend this establishment.

Great food, generous portions, great atmosphere and service. A really nice, comfortable place to have a simple meal. I had the pineapple upside down pancakes and they were amazing!

Black Bear Walnut Creek gives good service and has friendly staff. It is what I have come to expect from Black Bear Diner. I eat at their restaurants frequently in CA, NV, and AZ.
