Awesome experience. We stayed at a little rental cottage up the street and wish we would have discovered this from Day 1. But, we did get to go about 3 mornings in a row. (I did read the previous post and must say I didnt feel any judgmental feelings while there. In fact, all I saw was love and customer service. And they played secular music, appropriate music, which is not always the case at Church Coffee lounges. But hey, everyone is entitled to their review. And mine is very positive.) The coffee was excellent. Service was friendly, though not what youd get at a speedy Starbucks or Peets. Nonetheless, it was pleasant and reasonable with clean tables and plenty of seating! And the facility / dining area is huge and open, with fantastic coffee drinks of all varieties and pretty decent food! Plenty of parking. And yay!... they have a public restroom. (That is NOT always the case downtown.) We did not come to the church or any church services... but I probably *would* in light of the way I was treated at the coffee house. If I return to Santa Cruz, I will be back to The Abbey Coffee Lounge!

This might be an original SoCal style "Internet" coffee lounge from the 1990s (before WiFi). It has a stage on one end, and the baristra counter at the other end, with comfortable sofas, and big-cushion type chairs, and bar stools to dinner tables for seating. You might try the patio area. Lots of original art and music with Arabica coffee. This is very nice. Cool in the hot months, warm in the cold season. Open late on Sunday evenings with live performances too. When I go online here, there are sometimes many students diligently studying. Other times, people are flooding in to hear a performance. The variety of performers is impressive. Last Saturday nights solo vocalist had some unique technique that would have reminded you of Sarah McLaughlin, and Dido. Fans loved her lyrics.

The Abbey is currently my favorite coffeeshop on the West Side of Santa Cruz. The décor inside is quite charming (e.g., an antique wooden table in the back that seats 8-10 people and sits on a low stage next to an upright piano) and there is a cute, sprawling courtyard with many plants and more antiquities (it can be quite windy though, so a warm layer is advised). Their espresso easily rivals Verve (in my opinion) and they have an awesome Chai for the tea-lovers out there. Plenty of outlets for devices (which you wont find at Verve, by the way), great Wi-Fi speed, and the staff have been super-friendly in my experience [unless you piss them off...just kidding...but seriously, please be nice ;) ].

This place prides its self on its customer service, its ability to develop relationally, and its fine product. The baristas enjoy sharing the knowledge of brewing that great tasting "berry" or "buttery caramel" flavored coffee pulls. I enjoy the artwork they display in their shop as well. It seems to change monthly. Some prime musical groups have also played at this spot. Couldnt tell you the names, unfortunately, but great sound and talent seems to like to roll through this homey coffee shop. This place is so comfortable. One gripe, I wish they had longer hours of operation.

This place feel like home. Every time I come in the staff (and even people there) smile and say hi to me. The coffee is amazing and is not only directly traded with the farmers, but is also fairly traded at 2x+ typical fair trade market prices. I love this community. I love this business. This is definitely an amazing non profit coffee shop that loves and serves the Santa Cruz community well. They have great music and live shows as well! Love. Love. Love it here.

Definitely a great spot to grab a beverage (and maybe a small bite) and just talk, study, or chill. We usually stop by whenever we are in Santa Cruz for a visit. They have plenty of comfortable seating inside, as well as some outside choices in a walled patio area. Live music is available at specific times. They pride themselves on appropriate sourcing of their product and make their beverages with care. Dont hesitate to try this spot out.

I love the Abbey with its unique style and warm hearted staff. Its a great place to sit outside on the side porch and read or be inspired to write something beautiful. There are plenty of places to plug in your tools of your trade. Plus its got amazing coffee, food, and teas that help you relax and enjoy the space. Its eclectic and uniquely furnished with some fun places to snuggle in for a good chat or silently surf the web.

I love the Abbey but have two suggestions for them. One: a little more lighting in the darker areas and two I just dont like the verve coffee or whatever light or medium roast they have. I like a dark roast. I actually dont go there sometimes because I dont like the taste of their coffee and espresso drinks. But I love the staff and the environment. I do go there for tea!

Great ambiance, overstuffed chairs, antique rugs, like being in a huge living room; lots of outlets 4 computers; free wi-fi; fantastic cappuccino, espresso, latte! Live music on the weekends; Beatles music, country, etc weekday. A great place to congregate with friends or just to study alone! Service is amazing; staff is personable and caring...just like coming home!

Great large open floor plan place to meet or study while having a cup of coffee/expresso drink and a light breakfast. Pre-prepared rolls, carrot bread, bagels, breakfast burritos, oatmeal. Large tables and wifi. Lots of students and causal business folk doing their laptop thing. Hidden away so only the locals know about it.

Despite being located in a Christian church building, there arent any pushers or visible religious references in the sizable, cozy, and highly decorated coffee house. Typical cafe offerings such as espresso based drinks, tea, and assorted munchies are tasty and their prices wont break your bank.

Good coffee. Prices on par with other cafes. Good atmosphere and music. Sometimes live music too. Clean bathrooms! Outdoor setting is nice. Wifi experience was spotty. Worked for most of the time. (Subtract 1 star) Love the decor. All wood. Couches. Artwork. Very good place to study or read.

Amazing spot, hidden by the entrance of highway 1 in a book of Santa Cruz. This little coffee shop offers comfortable couches for seating, and spacious areas for studying. Plenty of outlets too! Ive recommended this place to friends before who are looking for a new place to nerd out in SC :)

good atmosphere, but music is on loud side and not conducive to studying or reading, if just would play some classical or light jazz would vastly improve the ambience despite this fault, the Abbey remains the number one coffee shop in town for the student and intellectual crowd

The atmosphere is SUPER CUTE, everyones on their computer, so clearly a reliable wifi spot, but the cashier was a bit snippy, and the barista was totally rude to me. They were out of "for here" cups. But the mocha I got was really tasty.

The cup of soul with coconut cream tea is one of my favorite things in life. I recommend getting it with soy milk. Ive been here twice but bought some coconut tea for at home. Great spacious atmosphere and plentiful parking.

Best coffee shop in Santa Cruz. They have the best seating, amazing coffee, fast/reliable wifi, and the staff is excellent. It is a bit expensive for a coffee ahop, but you absolutely get what you pay for and more.
