The reviews are generally accurate although the reviewers are very generous in their star ratings. The Bashful Bull is a diner, and it serves diner food. I ordered a hamburger, fries and milkshake which were the daily special and cost less than $8 - a bargain. I got a burger that appeared to have been delivered pre-sliced and frozen in a box and then grilled, fries that likewise had been delivered pre-sliced and frozen and then fried, and a small chocolate milkshake that was very dark and had a spoon in it - for what I dont know. It was not thick enough to need a spoon, and it appeared to have been made with chocolate milk and chocolate ice cream and had an odd consistency. Judging from the other reviews, it would appear that breakfasts are their best meals, and as for the décor, I personally like diners, and I thought it was pretty authentic - right down to the frozen ingredients and mediocre food. I would have much preferred to pay twice as much and had a chef who prepared the food instead of merely assembling it, but theyre probably right; a few block from Ocean Beach on Taraval in the foggy Sunset is not the place for that kind of restaurant.

I almost didnt go here because of all the negative reviews, but its the burger place I could find anywhere near here. Im glad I tried it out for myself, because they must have improved since the last reviews. The atmosphere is adorable and the place is a lot cleaner than a lot of similar diners. If you are at the zoo or the beach and you want the kind of place that "Mels" tries to be without all the tourists, this place is perfect. Its not a place I would go out of my way for, but Im glad I gave it a shot and it will definitely be back. BTW. the service was good and my rare burger actually came rare, so they must have improved since a lot of these reviews were written.

Yes-sir-re bob, a reasonably priced place right near the beach where if your hankering for a hot meal youll find everything from hamburgers, hot dogs, milkshakes! Or if you need to get yourself going in the morning they have all different types breakfast. Want a nice dinner, no problem, they have it all right up to a real ready to serve full-blown sit-down type knife & fork meals! But be careful, some of these meals are so big that youd need more then forklift to get your funny out of your seat after youre finished!

Ive been twice and both times I had a less than stellar service. The first time we found a bug in our orange juice, and they refused to comp the drink saying it was a coffee ground. Coffee grounds dont have wings. The second time the told us to get up to pay the bill so they could seat the next guests quicker. We will not be returning again

One of the best breakfasts every in SF!! You HAVE to try this place :-) Great diner feel with all the classics but you can even get inventive! I got chocolate chip french toast with pineapple and whip cream! And it was great! Who knew?! Brunch is the time to come. Ample comfortable seating and great quick service!

Bacon! I ordered something WITH bacon, and I got FIVE pieces of bacon. That alone got it a "Good" review. But the completely dive-food and affordable prices bumps it to "Very Good". Perfect breakfast-after-a-hard-night place.

Decent dive diner by the ocean. Foods not great but the funky old-style decor is fun to sit and stare at. kid friendly, daily specials (a set special menu) seem like a good deal but.. the foods just not very good.

Fantastic burger and polite, prompt staff. It feels like a counter service place, but they checked on us and took care of us throughout. My only regret is not being more hungry, the burgers are FANTASTIC and HUGE.

Decent food. Decent atmosphere. But I take at least a star away for being closed Tuesday. Why close any day??? If you dont want to work Tuesday then hire staff to work Tuesday. You shouldnt be closed ANY day!!!

I will say the food in here is very tasty. I love the service, they are very pay attention with customer. Even their forgot something but they are very polite and friendly a lot. GO to try so u will love it.
