Horrible experience! We had went there for a wedding tasting, and strangely enough they charge before hand the $25 to have the tasting. She had mentioned over the phone she would send me the options so I could choose and have ready for the next day(which I thought was weird they could even get me in so fast.) Around 4pm, still hadnt received the options, called and spoke to a gal who apologized and went over my options which then I gave to her. So as we arrived to Sac from Chico, due to our wedding being in Roseville, they called at 9:25am, and out apt was scheduled for 9:30, asking which flavors we wanted. What? We are supposed to be starting this in 5 minutes and they had no idea what we wanted to taste, so I had mentioned when going in, that why wasnt we wanted to taste available and she had said they were, especially since I paid $25 to taste what WE would like. So 20 min later they come out with 2 flavors out of 4 and one wasnt even what we wanted to try and the density was horrible, crumbly, all over the place, and poorly frosted. I then asked about the other two flavors, well of course they didnt have them. They asked if we could come back down the following Friday to try them, which I wasnt very happy with as we had just drove down 1 1/2 hours for this. I told her I would follow up to see if we could make it with work schedule. The whole reason why I even considered this bakery was due to my parents having them on their wedding and they had raved about how great they were. I then called the next day and complained and reiterated everything, and how I wanted my money back and that if they cant have the cakes requested by the potential customer then you shouldnt schedule, she then said she couldnt refund over card but would send me cash. 1 week later, no cash or check. Called the Sunday after Easter, said she sent it out Easter morning, which was a week from when she said she would send it and now today almost 2 weeks later, still nothing. I would never recommend this place. They may be great for that on your way doughnut or pastry, but as far as scheduling tasting for potential weddings, they are unprofessional, and seem to careless to get your business!

I have been a customer at New Roma Bakery for over seven years. Usually the service and pastries are fine, but periodically employees are rude and the items arent fresh. About three months ago I bought a loaf of bread that was rock-hard and inedible. I did not realize it until I got it home, and when I told the same server the next time I saw her she offered nothing and said nothing, not even, "sorry." Last Sunday (09/13/09) I went in for their weekly sale that begins after 1:00. I got there about twenty minutes before and waited in line. Just before 1:00 a woman came in and surveyed the counter. She then cut in line in front of me and three other people to be with her friends. There is a line for a reason, because people buy up all the good stuff first. The cutter was going on about how she was going to buy this and that, items that I wanted and would have had the chance to purchase because she would have been behind me in line. I told the ladies behind the counter. They did not care. I told them that I was leaving and they laughed as I left. I usually spend about $30 on Sundays. Employees seem to come and go there. I guess they give vocational meaning to the word "turnover." What gets me is that I have never seen these two behind the counter before and I always leave a tip...what a slap in the face. One other thing to remember about New Roma Bakery: TV news coverage reported an alleged rodent infestation there several months ago and the bakery was shut down for a few weeks.

Best bakery in Sacramento! Great selection, great price and helpful staff. Ive been coming here for about two years now and never had anything but a great experience. They can get busy and you might have to wait a little but where else can you get such a great selection of pastries, bread and cakes that are all so good? And they still have their half off sale everyday at 1 pm for those that want save a bit more on those yummy treats. You wont be disappointed when you come by.

Our first time here looking for some Brioche bread. Didnt have it so we thought we would try some sweets. The worst cupcakes I have ever eaten. They tasted like they were a week old. Donuts were awful as well. We didnt have cash so we had to spend over $10 to use our credit card. I called the manager just to let them know how bad our experience was and she didnt apologize once. Waste of money big time!

Fresh and varied selection of breads and mouth watering desserts. Knowledgeable staff quick to share tips and tricks on her favorite way to prepare garlic bread. Let me try out a small chunk of a cookie and even threw in a chocolate coated blondie I was eyeing with my bread purchase. 3 days later, French bread loaf still soft.

The baked goods are wonderful and the staff is friendly but the place is run down. Their fake show cakes on the top shelves are old, dusty and dirty a big turn off. They need to freshen the place with a new coat of paint and make it more inviting. That is why they only get 3 stars from me.

For the third time in a row, I brought home baked goods from Roma--two pies and a freshly ordered cake--and they were too stale to eat! Maybe the cookies and bread are better but definitely the other stuff is awful. Hard to beat a Marie Callenders pie or a cake from Ricks Dessert Diner!

Ive been going here since the late 70s and havent had a chance to go in there for years. My neighbor works for them and brought me two pies for Easter and they were so delicious. I forgot how good they are. Ill most definitely be ordering all my holiday desserts from new Roma from now on.

Was employed for a month before being let go for falling seriously ill with bronchitis and upper respiratory infection. They still had me come in despite doctors notes and fevers before letting me go due to being slow.
