7/14/14 This girl loves her veggies. I also love pizza, so, naturally, my favorite pizza has lots and lots of veggies on it. My least favorite type of pizza is the "two topping" or "three topping" version - how do I decide what topping I want? I generally veer toward veggie specials when theyre offered, wishing the price didnt go up with each topping on a custom slice. Oh, happy day when I walked into Pieology Pizzeria. Our first visit to Pieology was today and a happy day it is. My husband and I were finally at the front of line and had two crusts flattened out for us in an awesome pizza pressing machine. The manager was wonderful as he told me about the options: my husband put herb butter sauce and two types of cheese on his pie, I picked red sauce for mine (they also add a little olive oil to keep the crust from burning). I had mozzarella and gorgonzola on top of the sauce. Then, the veggie station. Casey skipped this step and layered on the meat. I, however, tried to picture a pizza with all the veggie choices they offered. In my mind, it was crazy talk, so I picked three or four favorites. Or maybe it was five but whos counting?! Not the nice girl on the veggie station; she was happy to put on as many as I wanted. She properly placed my mushroom, olive, artichoke, jalapeno, and garlic choices. And by "properly", I mean that they were evenly spread about the pizza. Our slices were cooked "well done" at our request and were still out in a handful of minutes, being delivered to our table by another friendly face. They only had a staff of four out front - and the food and service was excellent. Hot, fresh, fast, tasty. Everything you want in thin crust pizza. I had mine finished with a pesto sauce and hubbys was drizzled in ranch. Thats the beauty of this place. Its totally customizable - and they have something for everyone. Less than $10 each and the pizza was big enough to take (a little) home. Cant beat that price! Even sodas were only $1.75, and that seems low. I will be back for more tasty pizza. I cant count the times Ive complained that "all the good pizza is on the other side of the tunnel", and even last week someone asked me for a pizzeria recommendation, and I said "Oakland". This is my new favorite local pizza for sure.

Yum! Love this concept of build your own pizza. They have red sauce, cheese sauce, olive oil, and butter; a variety of cheeses; several vegetable and meat options; and lastly... after bake sauces! Various combinations can create different tasting pizzas. Everything is personal sized and built on thin crust. Ive come a few times since its opened, and each time the place has evolved just a little bit. The first time I came, they only had the olive oil, butter, and marinara sauces. But more recently, thats when I noticed they were offering an alfredo sauce as well. They do move pretty fast building your pizza. This can be a good or a bad thing. Good in that service is quick, and the food is ready before you know it. Bad because they are moving down the line so quickly that if you want to ask for any changes, its hard to get their attention. (For example, if they dont put enough of a vegetable, and theyve slided your pizza over to the meat section already.) Also, each time I have been, they have not offered or mentioned their after bake sauces. Their printed menu has also changed designs several times, and the most recent one I picked up doesnt mention them. I only know of them because my sister, who frequented the Berkeley location, knew of them.

Pieology seems to be a place that relies on people wanting a very specific kind of pizza and Im okay with that. If you enjoy thin-crust pizza then this place should be great for you. I cant wait until every style of cuisine follows (what I call) the "Subway" method. I ordered my own pizza without getting too crazy. Apparently, toppings are unlimited. I wanted to give it an honest try so I went with a combo I thought would taste the best. It was good and I would definitely try it again with MANY more toppings. One thing that is kind of off is that normally, pizza is something you get with a group. You order a huge pizza for a decent price and everything is good. I dont think I would ever go to Pielogy with a group (you definitely wouldnt be saving any money), which takes away a little bit from my standard view of pizza.

11.5" pizza pies for a flat rate of $7.95 with unlimited toppings. They par cook the crust when they press the pizza dough from a dough ball so your pie only takes 3 minutes in the super hot pizza oven. You pick your crust, sauces, cheeses and toppings in a salad bar type line like they have at Subway (it is all behind a sneeze guard and the staff builds your pie to order). The crust is a super thin crispy cracker type. Pieology also makes custom salads or has a couple of ready made choices. They have some kind of simple dessert. They do NOT have anchovies and I do not believe they have wine or beer (note: some MOD pizza places and some Blaze Pizza places do have wine and beer).

I really love this place. I live just down the street and come over for lunch all the time. They have more cheeses than most places (less common ones like ricotta, feta, and blue) and even a dairy-free option. All kinds of sauces, a bunch of toppings. You could really go nuts if you wanted to. The pizzas themselves are thin crust, which I like. They cook fast and come out crispy. A pizza and a soda costs around $11, which I think is fair. The pizza isnt huge, but its definitely enough for one person and I usually even end up saving some for later. All in all, I definitely recommend this place for some yummy, unique pizza.

Consistently delicious. The staff always seem different (I come at all times of day and night), but the product remains the same. Good salad too! Be sure to try different combinations (especially the alfredo sauce and feta cheese - yum). I have my old faithful combination that I tried one day and liked so much that I always get that as my foundation and try add-ons for adventure. This is a treat every once in awhile because it ends up being $10 per pizza. Addictive! Oh, and they have gluten free crust for $2 more.
