Carmelas is a very small store that doesnt really fit in with the neighborhood. Theres a salon next door and a few businesses next to it, and there isnt much room for parking. Either park in front of Carmelas or find street parking off to the side. While the stores around it look old, Carmelas looks really hip and modern. Like you know it will be good before even tasting it. There were a lot of people gathered around outside, but they werent eating ice cream or anything. The store is quite tiny. Theres a chalkboard menu with the flavors written on it, a small refrigerator that holds ice cream to take home (small one for $5, medium for $9 and a large for $15). I tried the brown sugar vanilla bean and the lemon verbena. The vanilla was really good, but nothing out of the ordinary for me. The lemon tasted a bit weird. One scoop is $3.50, two for $4.50 and 3 for $5.50. If you want to add a waffle cone it is $1 extra. I shared the vanilla and the salted caramel, and also bought me the medium sized ice cream to take home. The salted caramel is really delicious and tastes like the inside of a macaron. Seriously! Its not too salty and not too sweet, but they mix together perfectly. If you like caramel, I think you will like the salted caramel flavor. The vanilla was good, but it wasnt that special. I think the brown sugar made it even sweeter! Since the two flavors eventually mixed together, they also tasted good when I ate them together. Definitely give it a try if you love ice cream! They also serve coffee and tea. And they take credit card! The people helping were also extremely nice and friendly. I would say that the only negative is that there arent tables and chairs to sit in so you can relax and eat your ice cream. I definitely want to come back and try the other flavors. And buy more ice cream to take home. :)

My new FAVORITE ice cream spot! Ive had Carmelas bookmarked for awhile and since its getting progressively hotter, I suggested dropping by after a hike in Pasadena with my friends to cool off. We each went a little sample crazy and tried at least 5 different flavors posted that day, but the guy behind the counter was awesome and totally patient with us. I ended up getting a mix of the Raspberry Rose Sorbet and Cantaloupe Sorbet. It was so flavorful and refreshing! I absolutely love fruity and floral flavored ice cream so it totally hit the spot for me! I loved it so much in fact that I ended up buying a whole pint of the Raspberry Rose Sorbet to bring home with me. The prices are a little high for ice cream but keep in mind that they use high quality organic ingredients from the local Farmers market. Also since the small cup is around $4 for one scoop, Id recommend buying a pint for $9 to take home instead if you already know what flavor you like. There was also a special if you buy two pints. Buy one for $9 and get the second for $6! So far Ive visited Carmelas twice and Ive taken my bf and my mom to try the ice cream. During my second visit, we all agreed that the Fresh Mint and Lavender Honey were our favorites for the day. The flavors seem to transition everyday so i cant wait to come back again to sample what other delicious flavors they have in store!

Jessica the sweet girl that served us, I like to try just about everything before i make my final decision and she was so patient and sweet about giving us every single flavor i asked for.On top of that she explained each flavor to us that made the flavor popped even more! I was surprised at how delicious and interesting their sorbets were, she said they were made without milk and you can def. taste the freshness! At the end, we opted for the Intelligencia Espresso and even took a pint of it home. Since there werent any packed one, she packed one especially for us! Since it was 2 for $15 I ended up getting the cucumber sorbet, which my boyfriend finds incredibly refreshing! I have to admit though after more than 3 bites I was kind of sick of the flavors- in fact it almost became too sweet! Over all I like it but I am def. going to continue my Ice cream adventure!

Amazing, high-quality ice cream. Equally awesome staff. Never been disappointed in a trip here. They have a staple set of flavors they keep all year, and some that change with the seasons. The flavors are unique, and not your typical vanilla, chocolate, or rocky road. The must try is their lavender honey that strikes the perfect balance of sweetness, lightness, and enough lavender that you can taste it without being overpowering. For summer, their strawberry buttermilk is fantastic, with sweet strawberries balanced out by tangy buttermilk. Other notable flavors are their mint chip, earl grey tea, and cardamom. Highly, highly recommended.

In a word "YUM"! I have loved their ice cream since my first bite. Carmelas has delicious ice creams and sorbets. They do a great job with commonly known flavors, as well as offering unique flavors. A little bit goes a long way, so dont let the price deter you. They are also environment conscious: They offer taste samples from little metal spoons to minimize waste, the spoons for customers are wooden and their containers are biodegradable. The customer service is also friendly and patient. They also have some of their flavors packed and ready to go. This is a great quality treat, made with quality ingredients.

Found this fabulous shop while browsing for ice cream shops. Close to my house. I read the reviews and I must say they do not do this store JUSTICE!! I cant wait to see their truck at a food event, just to tell them how much I love their store. I usually am a chocolate maniac, but something told me to try their sorbets. AMAZING. i HAVE NEVER TASTED FLAVORS like theirs before. So looking forward to going again!! Just hope I wont have to fight off all the crowds,w hen everyone discovers this over-looked gem!!

I first discovered Carmela Ice Cream at their little truck at the South Pasadena Farmers market. I was hooked after my first bite. I immediately knew that this was more than a Farmers Market treat and that I could not wait another week for more ice cream. Much to my DELIGHT, the little truck was a part of a bigger ice cream parlor on the other side of town. I have become a frequent customer! My favorites? Difficult to choose just one. But the Strawberry Buttermilk ice cream is now my new best friend

The ice-cream tastes REAL. Thats the best way to describe it - it tastes like youre having real food. This is my favorite ice cream place in the L.A. area. Prices are a little steep, but here is the kicker - the ice cream is so good you dont even want a size larger than the smallest ($3.50) cup. Its so good and flavorful, that the little cup (and you can get 2 flavors in it!) is perfectly satiating. Theyre also environmentally conscience. Be warned, there is no seating area.

If you havent discovered Carmelas before, now is your chance. Delicious organic ice cream in flavors that are subtle and pair well together. Try the dark chocolate with dark cocoa nibs and salted caramel in the same cup. Heavenly! Also, try their ice cream cookie sandwiches which again are just purely delicious. And finally, they carry Blue Bell cupcakes, which are impossible to find elsewhere. The salted caramel and red velvet are my favorites. Top notch experience!
