Amazing sourdough bread. The plan was to make chili bread bowls. My part of the plan was to get the bread bowls. I looked on-line to see who had the best bread bowls in town. Searches including locations in the west side and some in the OC; Iiving in LA proper I decided to go to this bakery in the Cypress Park area of LA. Knowing that bread bowls arent always available for pick-up, I gave them a call a couple of days before to inquire. The attendant was really friendly asking was size I wanted: 1 1/2lb, 1lb or 1/2lb bowls. I opted for the 1/2lb size bowl since we were planning on serving chili in bowls more as a novelty than an actual meal. So, yes you do have to pre-order the bread bowls. The 1/2 size bowls were each $1 and there is no minimum quantity to order. I ended up ordering 1 1/2 dozen. As it turned out those 1/2 lb bowls were bigger than expected. They were about 7-8 inches in diameter and about 5 inches high. Nevertheless, they were a hit. Note: I did have to cut the tops and scoop the center to make them bowls.

My uncle David was coming in from San Francisco and I wanted to surprise him with some traditional Frisco bread. Needless to say, he was not disappointed. The little store front bakery serves the same bread that you will see in some of the best restaurants around LA. Come here for the best rolls you will ever enjoy, bar none.

Great Frisco Baking Company. Also try the breakfast biscuit with ham and cheddar, delicious. Reasonable prices as well, an OJ is like so you can come back many times and have more cakes without feeling robbed! Cool ambiance as well and friendly staff.
