Our dining experience started off with clam chowder, the soup of the day. It was reminiscent of the chowder at another familiar all-you-can-eat salad bar restaurant. Unfortunately, it was a bit undercooked. The celery was still crunchy and the sandy clams were a bit off-putting as well. The cream base was fair. It could have used more herbs, like basil, thyme, and bay leaf, to punch it up a bit and perhaps some bacon for a little salty, smoky flavor. However, this is a plus for those who are watching their sodium intake. Cajun Rib Eye Steak was deliciously seasoned, but a bit overdone for my liking. Since the dish is served on a metal hot plate, the steak continued cooking. Just as a note, you may want to order your steak a bit under your normal choice of doneness. The baked potato was cooked to a fluffy perfection, smothered with creamery-fresh butter goodness. The garlic bread was okay fare. Flat Iron Steak is marinated and charbroiled to order. It was a hearty, flavorful cut of beef with a perfect char on it. The portion size was just right. The mashed potatoes and gravy were very smooth but needed help in the flavor department. A baked potato would be my first choice next time.

Im always interested in mom and pop type restaurants, so when I was searching for a local steakhouse close to my home, I found these reviews of The Hungry Bear. They basically said to order the specialty steak, and that the place was creepy. Now, the place wasnt creepy, but it did have some of the stuffed bears inside. It is really a small, quaint place with a built in customer base of elderly people. The customer service is really nice and friendly and the prices are reasonable. The food was simple, yet excellent in preparation and flavor. I really enjoyed my meal. They substituted the bread for baked beans, which were yummy. The sirloin was perfectly rare. I really have no complaints. They have a lunch special that ends at three, which I might send me back there at some time. Im just curious to what a 5.95 lunch special is. They also have the early bird specials until 4:30PM, so get there early. It probably gets packed closer to the weekend, so dont fight the crowd and go during the week.;)

Been going to the restaurant for years. My Father in law has gone since they opened. Tonight I went in as I always do and was informed that I could no longer sit at a table and order drinks for my 92 year old father in law and husband. I would have to get up and wait for them to arrive before being seated. There were several open tables otherwise I would totally understand. We have done this for many years. Needless to say, a place that wont let me have a place to sit for when my elderly father in law arrives is not a place that I will return to. Upon speaking with management they basically told me that that has always been the policy although Ive never been told to get up from a table. She asked if I was a party of 1 when I came in. I guess if I would have said yes, I could have had my family join me and all would have been good.

When we lived in Fullerton, the kids and their cousins were very young. But, then, they discovered Hungry Bear. Its one of their most favorite restaurants in Orange County. The best fried chicken, quick and friendly service. When the guys come back into to town from college and work, they always end up at Hungry Bear with their buddies, for a savory meal and good company. Thanks for being such a wonderful eatery. My mother in law and my husband love coming here. I finally got to try the plank steak today my mother in law loves. Since the portion is big, the server asked me if I was gonna share with someone, and I has to assure her that I can handle it. The steak was tender and juicy and every bite was enjoyable. Their sauteed mushroom is also really yummy. I am happy that I found a place to get good steak nearby.

What a super cute and cozy environment!! I was complimenting so much on all of their decor and the cute bears. Oh the food was Top notch delicious. We had the roast beef and specialty steak they were both so juicy and came out sizzling fresh. The mash potatoes were so flavorful too! We traveled a little bit to get here but it was so worth it. Shout out to our server MATT! Very friendly and was awesome(:

So my girlfriend and I finally decided to check this place out, and we loved it. The food was delicious and the service was just as amazing. Id recommend getting the Mac and cheese as an appetizer or even as a side order. The sautéed mushrooms were good as well. We both got a hamburger and were surprised on the size of it, lol. Great environment for lunch. Were definitely going to come back again.

The Hungry Bear is a nice and quaint place, with a quiet, homey atmosphere. The food is American, reasonably priced, and the servers are great. I had the ribs, which were one of the softest ribs Ive ever had. The restaurant also had its 49th anniversary when I went, and I even got a high-quality t-shirt. I think I will become a regular here.

Hungry Bear is place you go to when you want some good comfort food. From the corn bread to the pork chops, you definitely will be satisfied with everything here. The restaurant is a little small but I like to think of it as cozy. The restaurant definitely lives up to its name due to the many stuff bears that decorate the inside.

Cute cozy restaurant with a cabin feel. The menu had a great selection and I loved that most menu items included pancakes or waffles which is awesome. Overall the food was good (just a tiny bit bland for my pallet) and the service was great. I would have also preferred fresh squeezed orange juice instead of concentrate

great food and large portions for those Hungry bears, be warned waiting time can get up in the HOUR or more on busy days, so if youre a picky person about waiting dont come here or come before you are hungry. Great breakfast cant say much about lunch or dinner since we have only been there for breakfast.

I went there recently for my father in laws birthday, not only was the food exceptional but the staff was extremely friendly and attentive. They gave my boys a stuffed bear and my father in law a bottle of wine for his birthday. Excellent customer service and we will definitely be coming back here! :)

My first visit was when under new management. Everything was delicious and the service was prompt and courteous (even friendly and relatable at times). I had the opportunity to visit many times over the course of a loved ones very extended stay in the adjacent hospital. Salmon was my favorite.

Was there today was very disappointed in the place its in a town of Sr frist it was dark inside and no breakfast that is the main reason people go out to eat is breakfast and lunch a lot of them dont drive after dark
