When you are a newbie to Chaat cafe you tend to notice the place. Somewhat modern interior, located in a reasonably nice mall, and on first glance, a light and healthy Indian food alternative. Whats not to like? The restaurant has some pretty nasty county health violations. No kidding - check out the Alameda county health inspection web site - they have had a consistently poor record. Employees not washing their hands, handling food in an unhygienic manner, vermin in the kitchen and so on. Second - customer service is not exactly their strength. I am fine with the generally barebones customer service you get at many asian restaurants - however that is usually compensated by the love that goes into the food. That is definitely missing in Chaat cafe. Go to Pakwan, Salang Pass or Falafel etc to see what I mean.

This can be somewhat considered as a fast food version of Indian food. In the Bay Area alone, they have a few franchises already. They have several varieties of standard Indian dishes like chicken tikka masala and butter chicken. Whats cool about them is that they serve some street vendor food thats not usually served in regular Indian restaurants. I tried a few dishes and they were just okay. Nothing really caught my attention, but its a nice option if I want something quick. One good thing about it is that you can order online and pay by credit card. The branch that I visited actually only take cash on the spot. Something to be considered when youre dining here.

I came into Chaat Cafe for my first time on Christmas day and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is spacious and clean. The menu includes chaat bowls from $3.99, wraps from $5.99, and a variety of other standard indian food dishes. I tried the Tikka Masala rolls for $7.49 and, although they were big and tasty, they didnt have sauce inside and i feel like i missed out on a saucy curry dish with naan that i could have enjoyed a bit more. I also tried the mango lassi and Im sure experienced consumers would find it very sweet and fast-foodified, however, I still enjoyed it. All-in-all I look forward to returning and exploring the menu some more.

Chaat Cafe is not a traditional sit-down type of Indian restaurant; its a FAST FOOD place (though they do bring you the food). And I LOVE IT! I love the Tandoori Grill (chicken & lamb kebab) plate, always get that. Butter chicken is a favorite too. And for some extra veggies, get the Cholay. Their garlic naans are very good; hot and fluffy and perfect thickness. Their mint sauce is also the best. Eating this sauce at other establishments just doesnt taste right for me. Another +1 for having Blue Moon on the tap, served in a frosted glass.

I dont get it. I went there today to try this restaurant and it was OK. I guess it is good for folks not versed in Indian food. However, there are at least 7 Indian restaurants (that I know of) within close driving distance to this location with full buffets for a comparable price. How can you get more fast food than a buffet, and the food is much better. If you want to waste your money go to Chaat Cafe for average food, average service and average atmosphere. If you want to get a great Indian meal, try someplace else.

I have been going to this place for over 5 years now and honestly if it was a bit closer to me, it would be a daily treat. The food is awesome and consistent with fresh and quick preparation. We have a team outing every Wednesday and almost every week we end up there. My wife also asks me to bring a few plates home for her and the kids. Keep it up Chaat

I usually dont take time to review restaurants ,I had to coz I couldnt sleep last night, but this is one crappy food place. I ordered food via dash, biryani in particular. That was the worst chicken biryani of my life. I am so disappointed they are down lining hydrabadi cuisine. I wish I could have bought a raman noodle soup for dinner.

I was travelling in Fremont from Vancouver and my relatives took me to this place I was amazed with the paneer wraps very delicious. I have never tasted anything like that back home in Surrey BC where we have countless Indian Restaurants. Do try them for sure.

The food is below average Indian fair (I had the paneer tikka masala dinner) and the bathroom was one of the most foul smelling in which Ive ever been. I seriously question how a restaurant could pass code with the odor happening in there.

We loved the Alu-tikki choley chaat, the wraps and rolls were great too. Went there for a quick bite and were not disappointed. They need some more servers cleaning the table, but all in all a nice place, with nice food.

Partial Halal Menu. The chicken is Halal here. The chicken wrap is pretty good. Also try the papri chaat and the samosa chaat. Mango lassi is decent. Chai is pretty good here, although not free.

Good food at reasoable price and kind of what I would expect for an Indian fast food place. Please do keep in mind that this is North Indian fast food so dont expect regular Indian food here

The food here is amazing! I would definitely recommend the papri chaat and the chicken wrap. The food is really filling so order less to begin with (unless you want to take leftovers home)!

Most of the food is good, but the service & cleanliness are awful. I dont recommend this place until they get their act together, but if you do eat here, desi chicken wrap is tasty.

Its supposed to be a place for good chaat, but their chaat is horrible. I tried Tikki chole, I recommend not to try. Only their wraps are nice... worth trying... a bit pricey.

Atmosphere and location are very nice, but the food quality is very poor. I guess some restaurants take guests for granted and lower the food quality.

Great food and great service. Even when they are swamped with grumpy hungry customers everyone here is pleasant and professional.

The food is good but I found two short thick hairs and one long thin hair in my food today. I lost my appetite after that.

Has great chicken wraps, get the potato salad. A bit spicy compared to other restaurants. Tikki masala chicken is tasty.
