I would give this place an average score. It had some good qualities, but not enough to outweigh the bad ones. Overall, the food was pretty good. Not fantastic, but Id definitely be willing to return. The waiters were very polite and respectful. The young man who served us didnt even bat an eyelash at our repeated requests for to-go cups. They cleared our table with little fuss, and the updated technology they used to take our orders and pay the bill was very convenient. The wait to be seated wasnt long, but the waits to get our drink orders, then food orders were quite long. The chairs at the tables were uncomfortable, the place was crowded and noisy, and the tables were a little too close together. After another very long wait, we received our food, but some of it was cold and one of us received a wrong order. Because of the way the order was taken, the waiter was easily able to check and see that the confusion had arisen from the kitchen. He was very polite about it, and offered the corrected order at no charge, but there was another wait. He was even very amicable about our request to switch from a table to a booth. Im not a fussy girl, and the food was really good. So the overall experience wasnt subpar. It just wasnt fantastic. It was also a bustling Saturday evening, so I cant really hold the long wait against them too much. I would definitely order from here again, but I would have to opt to call ahead for takeout next time.

I was very excited when I heard there was a Louisiana/Cajun style restaurant in Fairfield with some glowing reviews. We got there just after 6 pm on a Saturday night and there were still 8 tables available. I ordered the catfish and southern fried chicken combo and my husband ordered the oxtail special. We sat chatting for well over an hour before we got our meal around 7:30. The server was friendly but did not offer refills on our iced tea without prompting, a good half hour after our glasses were empty. When we got served, initially it was the wrong meal, but that was corrected immediately. The catfish was breaded and dried out and the battered chicken was overcooked and stringy. The corn bread was very dry but the baked beans were full flavored and interesting. The star of the meal was the candied yams which were the best I have ever had. The oxtails were slow simmered and delicious, I even ordered some to take out. The prices are high and to be fair, coupled with the long, drawn out wait to be served ensures I will never dine in again. I would consider ordering take out, which appears to be what most people do as by the time we were done eating, there was a line of people waiting for phone ordered food.

I have spent so much money at Chez Soul. I love some of the food. But tonight I Place family order to go (wings and basa). Got all the way home and discovered that they put all catfish in my container instead of basa. When I called the young lady told me that somethings basa look like catfish. I told her that I KNOW that is catfish and not basa. Get this...Then she ask me to take a picture of it Nd send it to her phone. Ridiculous right... but I did. Then she called me back to tell me that it is basa bc you can fold it down the middle. Ridiculous l! I know my fish. I love Tisha. Basa is my favorite fish. Never once did she apologized. Never once did she even ask me to come back. She literally made it seem like I was stupid and they Place the correct fish in my container. Advice.. ordering to go. Check your bags.!! This experience has made me think twice about Chez Soul.

My friend made me recall a story I had at Chez Soul from about 7 years ago. Which also made me remember that I never had the chance to thank the people of this business enough, for being such great people and for offering mouth watering soul food! I came here about 7 years ago with my girlfriend. We were both homeless at the time and only five dollars. I asked for whatever that would be the most food between the two of us, which was a sausage or two if I remember correctly. Although when they came to serve us they came bearing much more than just two sausages. They gave us two big platters of food! I just wanted to write this review and say thanks again! The world could definitely use more people like those in Chez Soul

The food is great but everything takes so long. If u call in an order (today) it takes over an hour wait to get it. Theres always a wait around the corner no matter which day you go. When you get seated theres a long wait to receive the food. Waiting hella long for everything is so frustrating and its the only soul food place in solano county since Stephanos closed. Customer service is ok. The food is pretty pricey too! The last issue is they never want to open up additional seating on the other side of the restaurant, so that creates a line of more people standing around inside and outside waiting...,,,,

Ive frequented the restaurant numerous times but I was disappointed to see that there were all fair skinned waitresses/waiters in a black restaurant that started in richmond. You never see black/white/Latino waiters in a Chinese restaurant. The same goes for Mexican food, American cusine, French cuisine etc. It is extremely disappointing to see that with the amazing amount of responsible black men and women that need jobs there were none at a soul food restaurant. The food is decent but to see the lack of African Americans has convinced me to no longer frequent this establishment.

I am giving this restaurant a one star because we had to wait 15 minutes just to get our order taken, after which it took another 45 minutes to get our food ( I ordered a salad). The table was not clean when we got there, and once I got my food my ceasar salad was basically a pile of lettuce, chicken a few croutons and two pouches of dressing! really? Pouches, they didnt even take time to "make" a salad... and I paid $6 for a ceasar I couldve made at home... not good. Not to mention the dressing was expired and made me very sick the next day! I do not recommend this place!

My food was very bland simply no taste. I ordered BBQ 2 way beef bisket and beef links the links were so hard I cant chew it and the bisket definitely nothing that said BBQ, the bisket just slandered with sauce as stated on the menu. This was my 3 experience at Chez Soul Im done there wouldnt be a 4. Customer service was to be desired I asked they take the day old links off my bill and got the check with a $1.79 discount. Not a place I would recommended. Ill drive to Berkeley to Angelinas Louisiana kitchen Highly Recommended.
