Has an anti-establishment feeling, which I support. I love having the chickens running around. Food was good; service was slow, as others noted. A VERY simple lunch for 2 came to $21.00. Its hard to find a good vegan & non-vegan place. However, our visit was greatly marred by an incident with a dog. I love dogs - rescue them, write about them, etc. In this case, two women let two dogs out of their car, off-leash, one a corgi-type and the other something resembling a standard poodle, but not. Almost immediately, the "poodle" took out after a beautiful gray & white rooster. I could see that he would easily catch the bird, so I jumped up and ran after them, shouting and gesticulating. The owner stood by doing nothing. The dog caught the bird and had him by the throat with the birds back on the ground in what is generally regarded as a "killing bite." Still, the owner stood by with her finger up her... I yelled at her, and she slowly awoke and called her dog. She and her friend then put both dogs on-leash. The rooster ran off so I guess he wasnt fatally-injured, but dont know because no one checked up on him. I went inside and reported it, and a staff person said, "Oh, yeh, I saw that," but did not seem to care and didnt check it out, and as far as I know, didnt say anything to the irresponsible dog owner. My lunch and my friends was ruined. Dog owners glared at us as if we were to blame. Im from mid-town, and I wonder if maybe this is the way Fair Oaks folk are - very laid back. Maybe out there in the country, nobody cares about a silly rooster. I dont know, at this point, if Ill ever try it again.

Im experimenting the vagan dishes, so I wanted to try this place. The nutty burger was delicious, and the potato salad was pretty good, too. The price for both was around $9.50 (forgot exactly how much but it was +$9.00). That seemed rather high to me, but like I said, Im just starting out. I like Old Town Fair Oaks, so the atmosphere was nice. What I didnt like was the service. After telling the lady at the order window that I was trying out vegan for the first time and I didnt know what was good, I asked what dish is "filling". The lady just said said pretty much everything. I asked for a recommendation, and again, she said everything was good. Finally, she said the Nut Burger was the most popular, so I went with that. It wasnt what she said, but how she said it that came across as being unfriendly. It is those little things like returning a smile, being cheerful when being asked for advice, and appearing pleased that I want to try vegan that were all absent from her demeanor. Like I said, those little things. Perhaps it was a bad day for her. And Ill try the place again in case that was the case. But if those bad "vibes" are present again, itll be my last time.

This is a small dirty cafe, with dirty chickens running around the tables and chairs of this place. the service was ok, but the wait time was fifteen minutes for a burger and a sandwich (there was only one customer ahead of us). we ordered a patty melt (doesnt come with anything extra), a pesto sandwich (also by itself), and a large ice tea. the total came out to $17!!!! definitely the worst value you can get from any low-budget cafe. i encourage spending money at local ma n pop shops, but will never go back to this place. thanks to the way our produce is inspected, organic food is tested less than non-organic, meaning they dont follow strict guidelines, allowing dirty food to be sold from here. my girlfriend has been throwing up all night and morning, all because we wanted to have a supposedly "healthy meal".

Absolutely delicious food. Note, I didnt say delicious Vegan or delicious Vegetarian food, because it was just plain delicious food. Im not Vegan or vegetarian and I was very happy with everything. The Super Nut Burger was flavorful, fresh and filling. The potato salad was bright and fresh and everything you would expect from a good potato salad. Indoor seating is very limited. Outdoor seat was plentiful and shady, but on a hot day, its going to be hot. You order and pickup at a walk up window. They are clearly very popular because there was a constant line the entire 45 minutes that I was here and it was 2:30 so not what you would consider a lunch or dinner rush time. I highly recommend coming here and give them a try. I will definitely be back.

This place is really good because they serve very wholesome food that is vegetarian. It is a well known place that has been around for many years and people come from all over because it is some of the best in town even if you are not vegetarian like me. I like it because I feel satisfied and healthy after eating here, which is not the case with any other vegetarian meals I have had; They also make really good healthy smoothies. Unlike "fast food" , the wait times are what to expect for fresh homemade like food, so dont complain like some people do about the wait...you cant have your cake and eat it too. (I dont think they serve cake) So check this place out, they have become somewhat famous over the years with people all over Sacramento.

There is no menu, no restaurant that stands near this place! They make vegetarian better and you wont miss the meat! Their nut burgers are full of protein and very filling! I love the traditional nut burger, but Im addicted to the patty melt! Their hot Chai is yummy, smoothies are yummy, and its a comfy, peaceful atmosphere. The Fair Oaks chickens walking around outside, right near you, makes for a wonderful place to chill. Its also right next to the park, so many times we take our food over and sit at a bench to eat. They hand shop for their ingredients, and Ive seen what I presume to be the owner drive up with Trader Joes bags.

Almost friendly staff, nominal service, pleasant neighbors (local rooster)...but....the nutburger went down hard, tasted microwaved, was very burnt, and hard. Greens looked a little old. Do not recommend this place unless they teach employees how to cook. Our friends have had plenty of great experiences there at the Sunflower-Drivein....today was not our lucky day. Person on phone did not offer to replace sandwich. Its just as well, would not trust the replacement. I challenge the owner to eat the same thing I ate.....two bad sandwiches...

Always get a Nutburger, never be disappointed! If youre feeling super famished and want some delicious spice, try the Super Nachos, filling and so delicious! If you want a sweet treat, try the vegan mint or peanut butter brownies or cinnamon rolls! Want something cool and refreshing? Smoothies are always a great option! Need an excellent shake thats vegan?! What flavor do you want?! Vanilla, peanut butter & chocolate, chocolate, take your pick! Theres an option for everyone and every taste, but youll never know, unless you go!

Hands down best Vegan/Vegetarian food in the area. Ive been a regular since about 85. Everything is tasty, however my personal favorite is the Super Nut Burger with a blackberry/raspberry yogurt shake. The Sunflower sits right in the heart of charming old town Fair Oaks just north of the park and the community theatre. Be sure to check out the history center right next door while you wait for your food, you wont regret it, fair oaks has quite an interesting history. Be sure to ask about the Chicken Man!
