With a Persian wife, like to think I have a fair idea of what makes for good Persian food, and proper restaurant service. That said, I came away from my experience at Shahrzad less than satisfied. On the plus side...the wait staff, at least the ones person Ive had, were friendly and helpful. On the downside... First the food...Ive eaten in at Shahrzad twice (Im about second chances) and come away less than enthralled on both occassion. Lots of rice with every dish for sure, but...the beef kabobs AND the lamb chops were dry as could be. Seems like they were made ahead of time and then reheated Disappointed with the dine-in experience, I thought I would give them a whirl on take-out. Ordered some ghorme-sabzi. At $16 a serving you would think I would get enough for more than one person. Not to mention that it was OILY as could be, they only gave me one order of sabzi, no panir and no butter for the bread. Not a big deal, but details count. Worst of all, while it is nice that they give it you in a a little tupperware container, they could have at least given me my serving in a tupperware container that hadnt already been used and had congealed grease on the top. Gross. As for atmosphere. I dont know if it is because I am American, but the people at the front counter (the owners I presume) put off an air like my arrival is an annoyance. When they ring you up for take out, they basically drop the food in front of you, slap down the black bill folder and walk away. No "thank you" "come again" "have a good evening" etc. Thats the extend of the interaction. I asked the owner how many people would be served by a take-out of ghorme-sabzi and I got a shrug and " I dont know." Clearly, she didnt want to deal with me, so she sent a waitress out to finish my order and collect. The waitress (daughter of the owner) was apologetic and unfailing polite. She immediately offered me water or tea while I waited, and tried to explain that her mom comes off like that sometimes as a product of her English skills. I can respect and understand that, but if thats the case, let someone else be the FACE of the place. Who wants to come to restaurant where they feel like their arrival is an interupption for the owner? Needless to say, in spite of how close they are to me, I will be making the 10 mile trip to go to the other Persian restaurant in town whenever I feel the need for Persian food. It may not have as nice a location or decor, but everything I noted here as a negative, is a positive with them. My advice to Shahrzad? Let your daughter handle the front of house. She can bridge the gap between your Persian and American clientele beautifully, and appears to have a far greater understanding of how to present a pleasant and inviting atmosphere that makes a customer feel welcomed.

They call it Fine Persian Cuisine but it is FAR from being Fine, and I really know my persian food. Six of us driving down from a long day skiing were starving we stopped off at Sharhrezad restaurant for some chelo kabab. The first thing I notice was that our water glasses were filthy. I asked the waitress to bring us out some clean ones, she was very gracious and did so. We all ordered beef koobideh. When the dish came out the meat had a foul smell, and it did not look like beef (way too white in color to be beef). We each took a small bite out of meat and could not even swallow it. It was DISCUSSTING. We returned our dishes and asked for stew with rice. The stews (qormeh sabzi and qaymeh) had absolutely no taste to them and were smothered with oil. After paying over $120 we left the restaurant feeling sick. By the way this was not my first time at this restaurant, I like to give restaurants a chance for improvement but it appears the management does not want to improve, rather make money by cutting out on the quality of food yet charging for it. Anyway, NEVER , NEVER again will I step in this restaurant.

Ive been to so many Persian restaurants all over Cali., and I can say without any hesitation that this restaurant is the BEST. The quality of the food is fantastic and heir dishes are quite big and fulfilling. You may not even have a spot left to try some of their delicious desserts. I have been a long time customer and never had any issues with their services. Their waiters and waitresses are friendly and courteous. Dont believe the negative comments posted by some idiots!

The lamb kebab is very small compared to the amount of rice that comes with it. The lamb kebab with the peppers and onions is a disaster--even smaller!!! The problem I have with Shahrzad is not the quality, but the very pricey menu that does not satisfy the customer who is paying a lot. The joojeh (thigh) was also small (and not tasty). However, the quality of the food is very good, and the assortment of herbs offered is what you will not find elsewhere.

Pros: upscale interior and food! Every dish is a piece of art. Excellent food and service. I went to every middle easternand, Persian, Afghani, Arab restaurants. This one is the most upscale and most testy food among them. Any review less than 4 stars not accurate. All my Ukrainian friends loved this place so much. Must try! And it wont be the last! Most of the times I ordered the lamb shank, and its super yummy. Cons none.

Its obvious that people like this place and there are probably regulars that frequent this establishment with its cheerful ambiance based on the amount of people dining. My opinion of the food though was as follows, ...tasteless. For the amount of money paid per dish the quality of the food was far below par. I would not recommend this place to eat unless you have an undiagnosed fondness of being disappointed.

We have eaten at this restaurant several times, last time was yesterday. My family and I throughly enjoyed this experience. The service was absolutely fantastic and the food was perfect by way of quality and flavor. It seems like a family operated place, where you are treated like family. Extremely friendly and professional at the same time. I highly recommend this place. Delicious!

The food tasted like they were trying for mexican food and the service there was not so pleasant they treat their regulars amazingly well. There was ONE lady that was nice but she was not my server. They also put some old burnt rice on top of my girlfriends plate as if it was suppose to be like that. Never go to this place. Only thing I liked was the ice cream tasted different.

When I want some really good persian food, I always thing of Shahrzad! I really enjoy the kabob koobedeh with their delicious rice. This place always has great food and top of the line service and the prices are really reasonable for the amount of food you get.
