This is the email I sent to New Leaf Markets after discussing an issue with ***** the store mngr.. I am disgusted!! I was at the Boulder Ck location, Waiting @ deli for service. The counter person came from the dish area wearing gloves(still dripping wet). he peeled off the left glove to work the buttons on the scale and then plunged the dirty wet gloved hand into the meat and grabbed a handful. I said "whoa!!were you just doing dishes with that hand?" he said "yes but dont worry its clean" I said that is B.S. and he went on to tell me about his food safety degree. I said no thanks and he got snotty. I told the Manager and pointed out the employee. I myself am actually food safety and handling certified. I work in the F&B industry. I am shocked that NEW LEAF of all stores would allow this. I cant believe it is safer to get my food from a chain. I am also annoyed by the loss of convenience. I shop @ NEW LEAF everyday. NO MORE! It only takes one idiot like that to cost you customers like myself. DAILY CUSTOMERS!! I wont be back. and I am forwarding this Email to the health department. AND TO THE S.C HEALTH DEPT::::: I HAVE CONTACTED YOU BEFORE MR *******. I see the health and fire dept downtown all the time doing checks at bars, stores, and eateries. Boulder Creek is not that far away but seems very neglected. I will now be driving to other towns for meat. Meat!!! New Leaf is A NATURAL MARKET!! IT SHOULD BE THE CLEANEST!! but it seems if it is in BC it is ok to overlook. some of us pay a small fortune to live here, AND PAY TAXES! MAYBE YOUR TEAM SHOULD SPEND SOME REAL TIME IN THIS AREA. AND BRING MORE THAN ONE CITATION PAD. YOU WILL NEED IT. I AM POSTING THIS EMAIL AS A REVIEW...AND ANYWHERE ELSE THAT IT WILL BE SEEN. ........................................................UPDATE!!!!!.............HERES THEIR RESPONSE!!!!.............................................. I was able to address the issue and speak with Justin (the meat clerk helping you). He assured me that he came from the back, where he was cleaning the meat grinder, to provide you service. He let me know that he took off both gloves he had in the back room and put on two fresh gloves before getting your ground turkey. He also mentioned that when you questioned his gloves being clean he offered to change gloves again and get another fresh scoop of turkey (which you also confirmed). Justin did mention that he became slightly agitated and feels he could have handled the situation better. He received a coaching from me on how he responded to the situation. As far as sanitation goes, not having witnessed the incident first hand I have to take Justin for his word that he changed both gloves prior to getting the meat. It is the policy behind the meat and deli counter that the put on fresh gloves before each customer as to avoid any cross contamination. I will always appreciate a store that is willing to help a customer out in a pinch! We made it there right at closing to get an avocado to finish off our dinner plans and the staff was kind enough to let us run in and grab one! I wouldve liked a couple other items, but the avocado was priority, and it really made our dinner perfect. Thank you for sharing a small town feeling to an outsider visiting ;-)

Very helpful staff, but not as much variety as the Felton New Leaf. I went in to get supplies for making Kitcheree, and Indian vegan dish, and they had almost everything I needed. Not a huge variety of bulk items, nor of produce. Thats understandable because it is a smaller New Leaf. Id just call first if you are looking for something specific.

I love New Leaf Community Markets! Including the Boulder Creek location. I find the service to be friendly and devoted as well as perfectly clean. I think as a society we have gone a bit crazy with our germephobias and am not afraid of New Leaf at all. New leaf is always a positive experience for me. Take everything with a grain of salt.

I liked the bulk food section. But I also had to pee and unlike other grocery stores they dont let customers use the restrooms. So I went elsewhere
