Slow seating and slow service combined with lackluster enthusiasm. We waited with a toddler for 30 minutes just to get seated even though we could see many open tables. I get that you dont want to overwhelm a server, but Id rather sit at an unattended table than be forced to wait outside in the cold with a child. Once we were seated it took another 30-40 minutes to get our food, even for the kiddo, though we ordered right away. On top of all that, the inside was not nearly as nicely decorated as virtually every other Black Bear Diner. There were no large bears suspended from the ceiling doing odd things (kayak, helicopter, etc). My son was disappointed.

Dont come here unless youre really hungry, because the portions are HUGE. I got an order of biscuits and gravy which they term "A Little Less" and still had to take half of it home with me (that is ONE biscuit in my photo). Probably the best biscuits and gravy Ive ever had, too, nice and peppery. The restaurant also has free WiFi, which is great for travelers like me. Edit: Went back again on another visit, and I ordered the peach cobbler with ice cream. I was shocked at how huge it was! Definitely enough for two people. I brought the leftovers home to Dad, and he loved it.

We go to black bear every Thursday night for dinner. Our favorite server is Jacob. He is so adorable and so sweet and so caring to make sure everything is absolutely perfect and it always is because he pays attention to every single detail. We also love when Giles is there. He was out for a while because of a broken leg and we were very distraught. But hes back now and were thrilled and we adore him just as much as we do Jacob. Thursday wouldnt be Thursday without seeing Jacob or Giles and thats the reason we go to Black Bear. its the greatest because of them.

I have taken my family here twice. Both times we have received great service at the table and ok service at the counter. The hostess seems to be out of her depth, probably needs someone to help her at peak times. The food is consistently great. The portions are a bit excessive, but Im not complaining. If you like great tasting comfort foods in mammoth portions, with an all around family friendly environment, this is your destination.

Why you asks? 1. Great comfort food like 1970s used to give. 2. Fresh, perfectly seasoned, BIG portionand not $$$. 3. Kids friendly 4. Staffs are awesomely friendly and helpful 5. Snall hometown vibe 6.clean 7.poke stop is here trainers Rest my case...food soo appetizing, we gibbled it down before we take any pic, sorry folks. But give this place a try anytime you crave a home cooked style meal done the way mom or pop used to make.

I usually go every week to the Black bear in Sacramento. Today we decide to came to this one. OH DECEPTION. I was with a disable young adult in a wheelchair so I request a table which immediately the hostess told me it was not going to happen. I we had to leave first this young adult can not fit in the booth because he ca not walk not stabilize by him self so he need to be in his chair. I would think twice to came back here.

The staff was very nice but they seemed short staffed. They did not have 3 items that I wanted and was very slow delivering my salad and forgot the corn muffins. This was my second visit and I have enjoyed the food. So Ill be back. I think they just had a bad night. The green beans tasted like canned beans though the server said they werent. Not sure Im convinced. Willing to give it another try

Good food. Service seems a bit less than most Black Bear Diners but not too bad. Got a lot of ugly stares as an interracial family but nobody did anything untoward. I would say to other mixed families and people of color that keeping a low profile is a good idea. Seems like the kind of place where things could go south quickly if someone of color got ugly with the staff.

First time @ a Black Bear Diner, service was more than sweet and helpful, food was super yummy, coffee was delish. I loved the lodge lounge ambience, especially the news paper menus. We felt like hungry bears going in and left like satisfied bears ready for hibernation. Thank You for the fabulous service and food. :-) Will definitely make it up there again.

Bears, bears, and more bears! The little ones really love this place lots of bears on the wall and carved ones outside. Food was well prepared and delicious. I ordered a 2 eggs breakfast plate with potatoes and they kindly substituted fruit for the biscuit as I have gluten sensitivity which I really appreciate.

Great staff and the food we ordered tasted great! We appreciated the large portions per plate. We had plenty to take home. The only downside was the food we originally wanted was not suggested by the waiter due to previous complaints on the dish. Other than that the overall experience was great!

Christmas Day, Monique our server worked her ass off and did a great job. Everyone chipped in to serve the unexpected crowd. The food was great, hit the spot, I had the Shasta Scramble and added spicy sausage. Overall met my expectations would return gladly. Oh, and fresh OJ

I came here specifically because I really wanted pie after being out of the country for a while. However, as far as I can tell, they dont serve pie here. They serve something more like a tin of fruit syrup soup with some crust on top. Really disappointing.

The staff worked well together. Everyone made sure we had what we needed. Food was good. Never ate here before. There are a lot of options and they offer lighter portions. We will definitely visit again and take the kids.

This is one of the many black bear Diners in Northern California. Its right off Highway 80 just a little bit outside Auburn.. There is a long wait for food and a table. When they brought my order it was the wrong one

Great food, excellent service even on busy Sunday morning. Super friendly people. ENORMOUS portions though; unless youre really ravenous, consider sharing entrées. Large menu, and breakfast served all day.

Really good home cooked meals. Comfortable atmosphere. Prices arent cheap but theyre not outrageous either. I usually go for their breakfast, big fan of the chicken fried steak. Nice family restaurant.

Everyone is always happy when we go here. Family friendly, our server Evan was excellent but that was no surprise, no matter who our server is we are always taken care of. Mad love for the bears!

Place to stop and re-fuel either heading "In to Tahoe/Reno" or coming back. Heck our family stops at any Black Bear Diner when traveling thru Cali never disappointed with the food or service.

Delicious food with a variety of options. The restaurant has a very cozy feel, and a nice atmosphere. Great for comfort food or any time you cant decide and need to cater to a group.

All Black Bear Diners are amazing, but by far this is the best place to have breakfast in Auburn! And the service is always outstanding. Everything on the menu is "mmmm" "aahhh" yum!

We went here on Thanksgiving day and had a great experience. The portions are always large at Black Bear Diner and the food is excellent. I recommend trying the Chicken fried steak.
