The decor (or lack thereof) at Hanaroo is part of the charm. This dive-y little storefront place with its janky awning in the downtown business district could easily be picked up and swapped with a neighborhood sushi joint in New York City and no one would be the wiser. Based on the "52 Dishes We Crave in Central Arkansas" article in the most recent Arkansas Times, we went on a Thursday night around 7:30. Clearly, everyone else in the area read the same article. The restaurant was pretty full but we managed to snag a table by the door. The server came by and said shed bring us water and our wine and take our order in just a minute. Two other couples came in after us and she served them while completely ignoring us. About fifteen minutes later she finally came by with our drinks and said she had forgotten about us (!!!). Tip to servers: Dont EVER say this. Just apologize and move on; well get over it. We finally placed our order for a few rolls (The Happy Chad [recommended in the Ark Times article], The New Orleans, The Volleyball, and the Harris) and a couple pieces of hamachi. Based on the amount of people in the restaurant, Id say the food arrived in a reasonable timeframe. And it was delicious! More and more, Im finding that sushi joints are using lots of cucumber as filler to reduce the amount of fish in their rolls. I do not like cucumber a whole lot, so I was pleased to find such a wide variety of rolls without it. And they have escolar, my favorite fish. If you have never eaten escolar, you owe it to yourself to try it. But, a word to the wise: Dont eat a whole lot of it. Google "escolar" and youll see why. You can thank me later. Their menu is vast (seriously, yall, they have 56 different rolls) and runs the gamut from Korean specialties to noodle bowls to the expected tempura and hibachi-style items. Service issue aside, Im going back to try their bibimbap and more sushi soon.

where to start. we moved downtown 2 years ago and live about 4 blocks from hanaroo. from my very first visit i was obsessed. they have a very large variety of rolls so the first couple of times i frequented i would ask the waitress what her favorite was and ask the most popular. i did that a few times before i found my favorite rolls. if you are going to hanaroo you must order the hot summer roll and the white blossom roll (preferably together as they compliment each other perfectly). i know am a weekly customer and each and every time order both of those rolls. i crave them almost daily! the service is great at dinner time but typically around lunch time you can expect everything to take a bit longer. order some edameme and saki and be prepared to taste the best sushi in central arkansas!!!

What a pleasant but unexpected find! Very good Korean sushi place in Little Rock, Arkansas (surprise!). I had a generous portion of tuna tataki that was just killer in a nice bento box that was actually pretty filling, and I like a good size serving of whatever Im eating to keep me going. Dont let outside appearances fool you; The storefront does look a bit tired, but there are several well-earned "Best of..." signs hanging inside near the bar. Inside is unpretentious and casual. In short, for lunch, its an excellent value with good quality sushi, great portions, in a convenient spot. If there were a place exactly like this where I live, theyd know me by name. I picked up on a few regulars there, so Im not alone in that thought.

My wife and I are very Foody. We love to try every cuisine,s available to us. Sushi has been one of our Favs. We have been to almost all places in LR that has them, one way or other. But this place takes the cake. Located in Dtown, it is worth the drive and enjoying a nice evening. Small place, very friendly staff (actually we have only seen this one Waitress, always) and the Sushi Chef is great as well. Makesem the way you likeem. If you are visiting Little Rock for business, or have been living here for a long time, this is def. the place. I am from Florida and have had Sushi at places that charge in upwards of $50+ per person and had better tasting sushi here as Hanaroo, for less than $5-15 a person for the whole dinner.

The sushi was average to good. The rice in the rolls fell apart as I picked it up with the chop sticks. I eat sushi about once a week, and have never had this happen. I ordered a large combo, which is 10pc chefs choice nigiri plus a California roll and salad. I asked if I could pay extra and upgrade my California roll to a specialty roll. The chef, who I was told is the owner, said no. I was willing to pay more! What a bad way to do business. The decor looks like it hasnt been changed in thirty years, which isnt a big deal. We were in a group of 8, and the server did a good job keeping up with us. So all in all, service was good, food was pretty good, but the owner doesnt know how to do business.

Save your money. This was by far one of the worst experiences Ive had at any Sushi establishment. Poor service from start to finish, (even had to get up and go to the back to request more to drink even though the 2 ladies working there clearly saw an empty cup on 3-4 passes). The soup was so-so, and the Sashimi was almost tasteless. Luckily, the only thing giving it a 2nd star would be the Kangpai roll that I had. I used to be a frequent visitor of Kiyens over off Chenal before moving jobs and Hanaroos is comparable to Krogers at best for about twice the money. Wont be going back!

This place caters to the downtown business crowd. I have always found the staff to be friendly and attentive, and the food is good. There is nothing about the food that will blow you away. However, when you want something good that isnt the same old mundane fare then you should definitely try this place. There arent many places in this area where you can get a decent meal and eat in the time of an average lunch break. The place is quaint, but its relatively fast and tasty.

My wife and I eat dinner here about once a month. Hands down, it has the freshest sushi in town. Its usually PACKED for lunch but slows a bit for dinner, especially during the week. Thats only because its located downtown and theres barely any residential near it. In any case, you cant find better sushi for a better value!!
