I love Mexican food. I pride myself on being a connoisseur of sorts when it comes to Mexican food. Having eaten at many many Mexican restaurants I am no stranger to friendly servers, moderately priced dishes, and that sweet savory taste of a fresh chimichanga. Unfortunately Los Olivos had none of the aforementioned traits. Streams of waiters and waitresses flowed by our table from the minute my girlfriend and I were seated and yet none of them seemed to notice that we were seated. Flash forward ten minutes or so and we finally got a waitress and were able to order. I ordered a chimichanga which was listed as around $9 on the menu and got rice and beans on the side. (Spoiler warning: those rice and beans bumped the price of my chimi from $9 to $14) and my girlfriend ordered an enchilada. While waiting for our food we were constantly served by a waiter who just kind of stood by our table and refilled our waters every time we took a sip or two which was kind of awkward. When we got our food neither one was good, just barely okay. It seemed as though they had substituted half of the meat with extra cheese which was unfortunate because the meat was probably the only redeemable quality about the food. The rice was dry and flavorless, the beans were smoking hot and flavorless, the lettuce was dry and tasted old. It was honestly not good, just barely passable. All in all, the service was awful, the food was not good, and the price was through the roof for the quantity and quality of the food. I wanted to like this place though, they had cute salsa bottles and the place itself felt authentic, unfortunately it wasnt enough for me to look past the food. Just skip this one, theres better places out there.

I went with 14 people on 2-18-11. When I was presented my bill, the receipt was for the total, tip line left blank and place for total left blank. I put in a 20% tip and signed. I realized the itemized receipt was not included and since this was a work function, I need itemized receipts for my expense report. I asked the waitress Toni for it and she went and got it. I noticed the tip was already in included in the total. I asked her, why she did not tell me the tip was included when she presented me the receipt with the tip line left blank. She of course played dumb and said the hostess ran the bill for her and she did not know the receipt was not with the receipt. I crossed out the tip, which would have been higher than the included tip. I was furious that had I not caught this, the daylight robbery would have been successful. It took two weeks to get a hold of a manager and I finally spoke to Johnny. He said this is a problem and they are always talking to the wait staff about informing customers of parties of 6 or more that the tip is included. He was shocked that Toni had done this since she has worked there 20 plus years. I inquired why this was a surprise when he just said he and his brother and sister are always telling their wait staff to stop this practice. There are plenty of other restaurants in Scottsdale and I told him I will never return with my company. If you go here or any restaurant with a larger party, better check your receipt.

I am afraid that since the elder of this family has died, this place has slowly been going down hill. I am a native Arizonan and I know my Mexican Food. They are not friendly when you arrive, and twice now I have been seated in a booth in the little alcove off of the dining room. It is brutally HOT in there. Service was slow as molasses, as they are understaffed in serving. Margaritas are watery and lousy. Food is mediocre at best and too expensive not to be good. I took my father here last week (he was in from out of town), and he was disappointed as well. Time to find another spot. Its a shame, because this place could be so great.

I chose this place based on the previous reviews. Big mistake! I ordered the carne asada, which had no flavor and dry. Along with an abundant amount of.overlooked rice and mediocre beans. My bf had the halibut which might as well have been catfish. Both of these dishes came with a salad which made no.sense and was completely unnecessary. All of this satisfaction for $61. Never again! You might be reading this thinking Im just picky but if youre going to charge over $50 for food then make it decent. If you want some real Mexican food try Cantina Laredo up the street. Save yourselves the dissapointment. The service however, was great.

Its been around for a while. Its family owned and evidently the family owns a lot of property in the area. I was there on a Saturday afternoon. The waiters and waitresses seemed too busy to be bothered. It seems like a tourist trap, but the food was ok. We were seated in a not-so-nice area. The bar seems like a popular place for locals. There is a larger, nicer room in the middle but it was reserved for a party. I do not live here but if Im back in the area, I think Id try someplace else. Ive had real tex-mex in Santa Fe, Taos, Pueblo... I know what it tastes like. This is American tex-mex. Tamed.

Was really craving authentic Mexican food and this was not it. I was surprised the food was not good since it did have good reviews online and after all this is Arizona. The queso was made with orange processed cheese. I couldnt believe it I could have microwaved my own at home. We split the sampler plate of appetizers. It was bland greasy and tasteless. The chicken looked was spongy I and the beef was dried out. It could have all come out of a frozen box. Fresh chips and salsa were good. Guacamole was again bland. Such a let down.

We tried this place on a groupon and it was the worst discounted meal that I have spent. When we got sat at our table, we asked the server for recommendations. His response "well what do you feel like eating?" I said to him, "thats why I asking for your recommendations" Ill make this short, the food was not good, I have had way better Mexican food in the east valley. I disliked my food so much that I hardly touched it, it had no flavor and was very bland. I do not recommend this place and it was not worth the price they are charging.

This place has a really cool funky decor, the entire building is custom made with jungle styled concrete and painted walls. I ordered a skinny margarita and veggie chimichangas with my boyfriend here. It was not too crowded compared to most of the other loud Scottsdale restaurant clubs. The food was decent, very cheesy (wouldnt call it health food). The margaritas were good, but like $9 each so expect to spend money if you want to drink, but thats normal everywhere. I would recommend this place again, its a fun spot!

Ive been coming here for over 30 years. There are certain things I really like (Tacos, Machaca and Polo Asado) that I stick to. Overall I find their food flavorful and authentic, about the best I can find in the Scottsdale area. I look forward to getting the cilantro based salsa and hot sauce with chips, which are very good. Overall service and food is a bit uneven, and I know what "I" like, and sometimes its not the best for everyone. But I am a regular and I do love it and recommend them overall!!
