After years of hearing people gush about Kyoto, I took my parents there for lunch. HUGE mistake. The fish was NOT fresh. The texture screamed "old fish", as did the taste. They tried to hide the taste by putting wasabi between the fish and the rice, but the nastiness of the seafood still came through. Theres no excuse for serving old fish at any time, but we were there right after they opened for lunch. Exactly how long had that fish been sitting around, if it was already off at opening time? My mother had a tempura shrimp roll, and even that tasted old under the layers of crunchy coating. We are too close to the coast for people to accept old fish on their plates! This is Dothan, a quick hop from Floridas beaches; people should know how seafood should taste. The rolls were also poorly made and fell apart as we tried to eat them. Despite there only being two other diners in the restaurant, the server never once came out to check on us once the food was delivered...no refills offered, nothing. I have no idea what the staff was doing during such a slow day, but "their jobs" was definitely not on the list of what they were up to. We had to get up and perform a search of the place and shout into the back in order to get our check. After such a gross and negative experience, dont think I didnt briefly consider just walking out--and I despise crooks like dine-and-dashers. Ive lived around the country and had sushi in all corners, good and bad. Ill be honest here: Dothan has never had outstanding or even great sushi. But Kyoto was below even mediocre. Well never go back. Time to try another place.

We stopped at this Sushi restaurant on the way back from Florida last weekend. We wanted to get sushi to eat in the car while driving. We found this route because it was on our route and seemed to have good reviews. The sushi was some of the best I have had. We ordered the Crunchy Roll, the Rainbow Roll and the Sunset? Roll. The last one was amazing and different from anything I have ever tasted. I think it was salmon and some kind of citrus flavor. We also got a Hibachi chicken and steak meal which our kids really liked. One thing I will caution people about is that Kyoto is a Sushi bar that happens to have hibachi food. I did not see a table where the chef cooks in front of you like in many Japanese Steak houses. That being said, the steak and fried rice was the equal of any I have had. The kids devoured it in five minutes. The service was very good, the staff took pains to attend to any of their customers needs. If you are in or traveling through Dothan I would highly recommend Kyoto Sushi.

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the inside of this beautiful restaurant. From the outside it doesnt look like much, with its blackened windows and simple sign. But inside, it has the feel of an authentic Japanese rock garden with tons of feng shui and zen. The light wood temple motif is very relaxing and looks very expensive. The sushi was wonderfully presented and extremely reasonably priced. Most rolls and sashimi around the $4.xx range. The service was quick and courteous. Everything was fresh and delicious and the menu included some very novel creations, I especially recommend the "Owners Special Roll" it was amazing, This is a must-see for sushi lovers in the Dothan area. As a well-traveled sushi enthusiast, I cannot recommend it enough.

Sushi is always great, atmosphere is nice and quiet. The wait staff are very pleasant and attentive. I read some of the other reviews and dont know where they went, but I go here at least once a week and the sushi is always awesome, never bland and they never cover every piece with wasabi, it is always on the side like every other Sushi place I have ever been to. I have eaten at many other sushi places in the area and this one is hands down the best! Recommended choices: Sunset Roll, Super Crunch Roll, Kappa Kappa Roll, Rainbow Roll and any of the Nigri.

Understanding it was Valentines Day I can understand a 45 minute wait, what I cant understand is the complete and utter disrespect shown by our server. Besides bringing us our first drinks we literally had 0 interaction w/ our server eventually after 20mins going to seek out a refill of water ourselves. If your thinking it was busy it wasnt, at this point (8pm) it had slowed down dramatically. Also Sushi was loose and would fall apart upon touching. Will never be back

The atmosphere is warm, inviting and well decorated. I ordered the teriyaki chicken hibachi and a yellow fin roll. the sushi was very affordable and the hibachi wasnt bad either, certainly worth the price. The soup and salad were some of the best i have had. It is the quality you would get from a fusion grill where"dinner is the show" but at a price that wont drain your wallet. The portions are plenty and you will leave full, but not of regret.

atomosphere- not winning me over, everything here is OVER PRICED! WAY over-priced! The only thing "exceptional" here is the fried rice and thats the only thing I will order from there! The sushi has no taste, no flare, no nothing, except a big price tag! I love Fuzions sushi- theres is cool, funky, fresh and SO delicious! and SO affordable. so unless my friends are dying to eat here, it is not an option for me!

I am not an expert on sushi, and I am not a fan of fish! But the sushi at Kyoto was so delightful and fulfilling! I had the Owners Special which was absolutely AMAZING! My fiance had the L.A. Roll which tasted a little too fishy for me, but was still tasteful. We also had the steak and chicken hibachi which was cooked perfectly! Definitely try to Owners Special sushi!

we have been 3 times, twice it was very good, last night they were busier than i have ever seen, the rice was awful it was mushy was not firm fried rice. The shrimp were tiny and extremely over cooked. The steak had absolutely no flavor, and the scallops were not scallops at all but shark. was so disappointed. you should not have to pay 80$ for awful food

Asked the sushi chefs to give us their best. My wife and I look around at several places for good sushi. Their sushi was bland. All of the pieces had Wasabi on it,one thing I really dislike. It takes away from the true flavor of the fish. Even the roles they gave us were bland and flavorless. We will not be coming back.

This place is a diamond in the rough. The sushi and the hibachi steak or chicken is as good as anywhere in Dothan. Not usually crowded and the prices here beat most of the other places that offer the same quality of food. Good selection of beer and wine. Overall a perfect place to eat before a night on the town.

This was the fist time I tried sushi on Dothan so I did not know what to expect. I like to try at least one thing new when I get the chance to have sushi. The a very good selection and I had a hard time deciding what to try. Yes give the baby octopus a try, they are cooked and lightly smoked.
