Not sure who the guy from Decatur that lives in Florida had serve him all those years, but it definitely wasnt the ladies who worked there today...took my mother in to try it for the first time. There were about six other people there, occupying probably four tables tops, so it wasnt busy or hectic, we got our food very fast. The burger was mushy and greasy but tasty i suppose. Pie was good, fries were pretty good if a bit salty. But even if the food had been five-star-fantastic, I would never go back because the ladies who worked there were completely R U D E! They were truly awful. Worst service I have ever had, bar none. They smiled only occasionally and only at each other, spoke abruptly and always sounded irritated with the customers, and said as little to everyone (except one another) as they possibly could. I work food service and I have never been that rude to a customer, even while stressed out of my mind in the middle of a lunch rush. Ive had better service at McDonalds! With a reputation as a hometown classic, you would think Penns would strive to provide friendly hometown service - not so. If youre looking for a greasy cheap burger very quickly, this is the place for you. If you like good service with a smile, its a must-miss!!!

If you’re looking for a great burger with taste and served by ladies that have good ole Southern manners this is the place for you. Drop by Penns and pick up a burger, some great fries and maybe an apple pie. Yea, theres a little grease, but whats a burger without some flavor? Dont expect anything fancy, but do expect good. Ive been eating the burgers for years, I dont need the fries or pies, my cholesterol is below 100 and my doctor says my heart is as strong as a bull’s. The texture of the burgers is one of beef and some loaf-of-bread and its hits the spot. Order up a diet Pepsi and your set to go. When I order there is no to go, I cant wait to scarf the sandwich down. If you dont believe or trust me, trust "THE KING". Elvis Pressley used to drop in when he was in town (he had a drummer that was from Decatur). Give Penns a try; there are some really nice ladies down there just waiting for you to drop by. Heck, order one for me. Just say, "Ill take one, all the way with extra mustard for the guy from Decatur that lives in Florida" and watch their face. These ladies will take good care of you and will remember your order the next time you come by.

The single worst dining experience of my entire life. Dirty place, horrible food. I cannot possibly put into words how bad the burger was, but I will try. The taste, texture, smell, everything, not meant for human consumption. Like some kind of slime that would collect in a deep fryer, with a flavorless double fried layer of crispy cardiac arrhythmia. There is absolutely no redeeming quality to this place and no reason for anyone to subject themselves to the horror of attempting to eat the abomination they will try and pass as a hamburger. Perhaps eating here is a way for Christians to commit suicide by proxy, avoiding hell, but personally, I would prefer eternal torment to being exposed to one of their "burgers" ever again.

Pretty sure it was the worst burger Ive ever had. It is really a mushy fried bread patty. When I bit into it, it was crunchy on the outside as advertised, but soggy. I thought the bun was soggy so I took a bite of the patty by itself and it is mushy in the middle because there is very little meat. Had the texture of a potato pancake. My family had been trying to get to CF Penn for about 7 years since moving into the area. My wife grew up with a place in Ohio that fried their burgers in a cast iron skillet with about an inch of grease and then put them on a bun with a slice of onion, pickle and salt and pepper. She was hoping this would be something similar. About the only thing similar was the grease.

Im told you love it or hate it. There were four of us at this table. It is fried bread between two slices of bread. We couldnt taste the beef and had to ask what was in the pattie. The lady behind the counter said bread and SOME beef. Sounds like she gets that question a lot. Lol. It was terrible. Taste can be compared to the blandest veggie burger. Im so confused as to why they are still open. If youre in the area visiting, Big Spring Cafe is another old school burger joint and it actually has all beef patties.

My wife and I wanted to try it looking for a good home made burger. What a mistake!!!! I can honestly say it was the worst burger I have ever eaten! First of all, couldnt taste beef. Mushy cardboard is what comes to mind. I saw them patting out the burgers, no red meat could be seen. Only a pale pattie of something. Oh, well, lesson learned. Definitely will not be back. Wonder how it stays in business.

Its worth a trip, maybe one. Its a unique "burger" that you will only find here. Basically a fried flour patty with a hint of beef. Or maybe pork. I dont know. Exesively greasy, but that actually mixes with the mustard and onion fairly well. Service was extremely rude, apparently they dont like having customers. Only reason to go back would be to make my friends or family go through the experience.

I grew up in North Alabama. Decatur and Huntsville. I have lived out of state now for many years. I miss and still crave those greasy C.F. Penn hamburgers. Ill take a double all the way, extra grease. Bag it up, take it home put some Louisiana Hot Sauce on it and enjoy it with an ice cold beer. Put the game on the tube and pass right out. Perfect Saturday afternoon. Awesome!

The dr.pepper was good, the burger was equivalent to card board. The service was very very short and snappy. Waste of money and time. "Cash only " in small letters on there menu board , right down at the bottom.. where youre not looking. Bad experience, one star for Dr.pepper.

Ive been eating at Penns since I was old enough to eat solid food. My whole family eats one, usually more, of their famous deep-fried burgers at least a few times a week. Penns is by far the best burger joint in town, and if youre not worried about calories you have to try one.

Burgers , fries, and hot dogs!! If youve never had a Penns burger you dont know what your missing!! The hot dogs are amazing too they fry them just like the burgers. Very reasonable pricing so take the whole family and dont forget a hat or t-shirt to remember the visit!!

Been eating here for 60+years but as of late the food and the service has progressively gotten worst. Do not believe I will return as I have to drive 35 miles one way and it is not worth the trip anymore. I reckon its been a good run.
