My husband and I decided to give this place a try a couple of nights ago since we were in the vicinity and it always seems to be busy (it is pretty new). When we walked in the doors we were promptly greeted by the hostess and seated at our table. The decor and lighting was very nice and the seating was pretty comfortable. Once we were seated it took about 3-5 minutes for our server to find us and get our orders. She came back shortly after with fried tortillas and salsa with grilled veggies. The salsas were great. There was a rather sweet green salsa (not spicy) and a smokey flavored spicy salsa. So far, so good, but it was pretty much down hill from there. We then noticed that the service staff failed to bring us any water (it would make more sense to deliver that with the salsa). We waited about 10 minutes before our server to came back with our drink order and we saw she had two waters on her tray, but as soon as she dropped off our beer and margarita she quickly turned away to another table to bring them the water... She didnt even take the time to ask us if we needed anything else or if our drinks were satisfactory. The margarita was very disappointing. I had asked for no salt, but was delivered a glass that was covered in salt. The drink seemed to be strong enough, but it tasted like cheap, bottled margarita mix. I tasted no lime or anything noteworthy. It was definitely NOT worth the $8.50 I was charged. I will certainly be going to Cactus the next time I am in Kirkland and feel like a margarita. After our server dropped off our drinks we didnt see her for another 10-15 minutes when she finally brought us our food. We then made sure to quickly ask her for some water. She said shed get right to it, but forgot a few times and delivered it 5-10 minutes after wed asked for it. As for the food... We ordered two vegetarian combo plates, which sounded very promising on the menu with mushrooms, cactus leaves and other veggies. When we got the plate I immediately noticed everything was covered with a drizzle of white sauce, even the tacos. The food was disappointing to say the least. The veggies seemed overcooked and the sauce and spices were overwhelming. Everything tasted like sauce or cheese, many of the dishes seemed very salty. I could hardly even taste the veggies except for the mushrooms on occasion. There was absolutely no balance between the flavors and everything seemed overcooked, even the rice. The total for the evening came to just a little over $50, which I wouldnt consider a bad price for a good meal in Kirkland, but it was definitely too much for what we got. I think this place has potential, but they will need to improve the food and the service before we would consider going back especially given the number of good restaurants in the area

RAW FOOD ALERT!! RAW FOOD ALERT!! Ive never been here before but was told that the food was pretty good. So I thought I would give it a try. I ordered the Sea Bass and man was I sorry. I forked out a chunk and it did not flake off. It was stringy and I had to pull the piece off. This was an immediate sign that the fish was still raw. I took a whiff of it and it smelled putrid. I forked into the middle of the fish and found that it was completely raw, stringy and smelled really foul. I showed the waitress and even she agreed it was undercooked (that is an understatement). I touched the center with my finger and it was cold in the middle. Not too long later, a new plate shows up on my table. Guess what, it was the same fish nuked in the microwave. It was quite funny because they tried to hide it from me by covering it up with sauce on the top. I know it was the same fish because of several things: 1) it had a chunk taken out of the side which was my first bite and 2) it was broken in half which was when I dug into the middle. Anyone with half a brain would know there is a problem with this. First off, you can’t just nuke it and put it back on the plate. In order to get the center back to temperature, it needs to heat from the outside which ends up overcooking the outer part that was previously cooked. Second, the pan fried crispy top was no longer pan fried but soggy like snot. Third, they just put the fish back on the sauce in which a previously raw fish was on. Hello?? What kind of executive chef does this? Clearly not one with any standards or experience. I was really disappointed that the manager or chef didn’t even come by my table to apologize for serving something so disgusting. Furthermore, I didn’t even get a comp like an app or something for such a screwed up experience. It was so raw that when I left, I had to double wash my hand to get the smell off. You have been warned!!

This one is for Norma who is either the manager or owner and a review of her business decision this morning. I have an hour to kill waiting for them to "open" so figured Id make good use of the time. First, I love Milagros. Always visit when in Kirkland and have lots of friends that basically live here. Last night these friends and I closed the bar. I was talking business with them earlier so had my laptop with me. Ended up walking out without it. No biggy. It happens. So this morning I visit at 10am. Several staff are working and prepping for open at 11am. Hostess confirms that they have the laptop but needs to call her boss to confirm she can give it to me. Norma knows Im there. The laptop is there. Norma instructs her employee to tell me to leave and come back when they are open at 11am to get it. Now, Im a business owner myself. I get that they normally tell people to come when they are open. But I was there. In Milagros. My laptop there. The same gal that will give me the laptop at 11am is instructed to have me leave, wait, and come back in 1 hour. So this review is for Norma. You can run your business how you like, but Im just letting you know I think it was a poor business decision. Michael

The food was very good, well prepared, thoughtfully presented, and FRESH. The margarita was perfect. The atmosphere was busy and loud, but in a celebrational, beautiful Saturday kind of way. If you need to have that quiet, serious talk over candlelight, dont come here. However, if someone just graduated, or if you are really just enjoying being alive and want a place full of people who would appear to be like-minded, this is your place. Our service was spectacular. Im embarrassed that I didnt get the name of our server. We ordered guacamole, she brought two kinds--the one with cheese on top, which is standard, and one without cheese, as my wife had mentioned she was vegan earlier in the evening. Very thoughtful and considerate, we thought. And just now I came to this site to review this restaurant, and I see the ownership responds to so many people. I have all the evidence I need to believe that this place is light years ahead of your average Mexican taqueria. This is my new go-to on the east side. For sure. Good job, owner, if you are reading this.
