Stayed at the Marriott across the street and was told these guys gave a discount to guests from the Marriott manager. The first day we went we were served fast and given the Marriott guest discount. We ordered the brisket, garlic smashers and buffalo wings. The brisket was good, the garlic smashers were ok but the buffalo wings were disgusting. I was surprised as they only gave us 1 small cup of bbq sauce for 16ozs of brisket. As we wanted to eat there again and try the smokey half chickens and actualy have some bbq sauce to put on. Waited in the line for about 20 minutes, placed my order and was not given a discount. They asked if I worked at Marriott, I said no. They said we dont give Marriott guests any discounts and the employee behind the counter started making jokes. I walked out and left. I was given the discount the day before. I dont understand. We will just eat somewhere else for the rest of the three weeks we are at this Marriott. Update: After leaving we found the Pie Pizzeria Underground and this place was delicious. Im so happy we didnt eat at R&R that day. We also never returned to R&R again. The other guests at the Marriott also shared their poor experience with us about R&R.

Ok .. So I heard they have good ribs here.. supposedly. But I wouldnt know If they do or dont, since I went on a Monday night at 7:30 to get a couple of racks of ribs and guess what .. They were all out of ribs. Considering the place was half empty, I highly doubt it was due to popular demand. Now it makes me question a few things .. What kind of bbq joint can run out of ribs on a monday night at 7:30 p.m ? What kind of Self Respecting BBQ joint would place themselves in a strip Mall, unless you serve crap on a stick like Dickeys .. It also makes me wonder about the awards they won in Ca. I know some great BBQ places there .. like the Hickory pit in Walnut Creek, Copper Top in big Pines (which also was listed in the Top 100 restaurants nationwide ) Wexlers in San Francisco (also in the top 20 bbq joints nationwide from ZAGAT) . so either none of these bbq joints never showed up to their awards ceremony or maybe this restaurant is just that good.. doubtful but who knows....

I have eaten a lot of bbq in my time and the choppped brisket at R&R is some of the best I have ever had. It had a great back to it, the meat was juicy and tender. The smoke was not overpowering at all. The chopped brisket did not need sauce which signals to me the meat is top notch! The pulled pork was pretty good. Parts were a bit dry. To be fair I was in kind of late. Depending on when the pork was smoked or pulled it is expected to be a little dry. A little bit of sauce and it was great. The sausage was amazing! Great smoke, texture and just the right amount of spice. I saw another review that mentioned the red beans so I tried them as well. Wow! Seriously some of the best red beans I have had. The sauce, sausage and a little bit of rice. The price is right too. Around $15 for the 3 meat plate. It was too much food. I wish I wasnt in a hotel so I couldve taken the leftovers home.

Great place to go eat, helps harden the arteries. Get the daily specials, theyre usually a great deal. Also, gets real busy right about 11:20 on weekdays so try to beat the rush if you can. I walked in only minutes before the rush and got fried okra instead of fries but it took almost twenty minutes to get the okra. Thats really small potatoes though, I understand sometimes you dont have food prepped right before lunch rush, ahem, just kidding. Things happen and the worker at the register was really nice about it, no big deal. What was a bigger deal to me was the manager being a total coward about it and going to every other table to ask how things were and expressly avoiding us the entire time. Couldnt have apologized personally about the extra long wait? Had to make your worker do it? Maybe you didnt know I got my meal 20 minutes before my side? Weak sauce either way dude.

Frankly, people from Utah wouldnt know WHAT good food is. If I see negative reviews on a new place by locals, I immediately check it out because typically theyre off by 180°. Can I say its the best BBQ Ive ever had? No... but its certainly the best local that SLC has to offer! Wings were AWESOME. Brisket was good. Sauces were terrific. Fried pickles could be a bit thicker for a more briny flavor but that was the only minor complaint. Staff was pleasant. Atmosphere was friendly. First time in a while we havent been disappointed in a new opening and we cant wait to return for a taste of more of their menu items. Especially the ribs which looked tastey!! BTW, if its true about not saving tables... KUDOS to the management. Something that has always annoyed me to no end in utah is how a group of 20 always sends an early scout to hold seats!! At theaters, restaurants, etc.

I really dug this place! I was in town for a work-ish event and some of my friends and I were free for dinner one night. This was on one of those "Top 10 Restaurants to Visit in SLC" lists... and I crossed-checked Yelp so knew it would be good! Among our trio we had a burger and fries, sliced brisket, hush puppies, and mac and cheese (ME!), and pulled pork with a bun and potato salad. I am a brisket girl and I LOVED R&Rs. Definitely among the best Ive ever had. The pulled pork was great too. And the burger was fresh and juicy. The sides were all great as well. I have no complaints about this place at all! Yes, the line moves slow, but they are very honest about that and I accept it as part of their brand! I was REALLY impressed with the quality, especially given that this place is in SLC which isnt exactly BBQ country. If Im ever in town again, I would go back!

I have been a fan of R&R BBQ up until today. Went in a 12:45 for lunch and order a 4 rib plate. When it came out they gave me six not four ribs but they were plain awful. Skinny, hardly any meat on the bones and so dried out they were like cardboard. UGH. I endured the first three - not one to cause a stink - but on the fourth and looking at the end piece, I had to say something. I went to the counter and talked to the person who appeared to be in charge. I showed him the ribs and he said he would speak to the manager and offered a gift card to return another time. Great. I went and sat down. He came back out and the gift card became a free desert. Enough. I left and probably wont return. PATs has my business when I want BBQ. Ribs and a drink $16.50 for whats below - no thanks. On the plus, they have great sauce...

The food is the best Ive had in Utah but the staff are rude. There is a no saving tables rule (which frankly is ridiculous) if someone from your party is in line for food getting a table is fine. But what spurs this on, is their space is too small to serve clients who want to dine in. We were approached by a rude woman who was very blunt stating "saving tables is not allowed - you must wait your turn in line." SOMETHING IS WRONG IF YOU HAVE TO TELL YOUR STAFF TO POLICE YOUR TABLES. Get a bigger space or post these rules so your staff does not have to be compelled to ask people to move. It made our dining experience terrible. I was so offended we almost left. Hospitality is the important to running a restaurant - especially when serving good old American BBQ. Wont be back anytime soon.
