I can NEVER go back to store-bought bread-I cannot say enough about Beehive Breads!!! Not only do they have the BEST BREAD, they also have the BEST PRICES on authentic "made from scratch" bread (much better than other specialty bread stores). First, for yeast breads, they have the best honey whole wheat (we go through two loaves a week), sourdough, sourdough and wheat cinnamon bread, cheddar cheese bread, spinach-tomato bread, brain bread and steel-cut oat bread and so many more! In terms of sweet breads, their pumpkin chocolate chip bread and muffins are insanely good, as is the snickerdoodle bread, carrot cake bread and so many more decadent desserts! I love to stock up on their caramel-chocolate bars, chocolate chip cheesecake bars, frosted brownies, cookies, other flavored cookie bars --even amazing homemade granola! They are awesome for brightening someones day, splitting in half for kids lunches or a sweet treat on a rainy day. Beehive Bread is even open on Sundays so stop in for a fresh cinnamon roll (plus yeast breads are half off on Sundays). You can also call ahead to order as many loaves as you need --we stock up because the bread freezes so well! There is nothing not to love about Beehive Bread -Amy and her team are truly outstanding!!

Im local to Powell, and was excited a few years ago when this opened. However, it has disappointed. Ill try to give a fair review and only make one good and two negative points. The first point is a good one... when Ive had their cinnamon rolls, they are pretty good. Now for the point that is purely taste... they seem to make every item in a very heavy style. There arent any light, flaky breads here. If you are one of those folks who like their bread heavy and solid... this is for you. The last point is the hours. The posted hours are not followed. This seems to be run on normal business hours, not retail hours. Its not open early in the morning, not open on Sundays (is this a bakery?) After several attempts to purchase something hot before work (8AM) and failing, and stopping after work (6PM) and failing, and after making a special trip at 9AM to find that they were just opening and starting to bake (last nights bread anyone? - they literally told me that)... I can only come to the conclusion that this is simply a retail store and baking is incidental.

Ive driven by countless times and finally stopped in today. I got a couple apple spices cakes in addition to a loaf of sourdough. The sourdough was good, but those apple spice cakes are heaven. soft, moist, just the right amount of sweetness. I was handled very quickly (less than 3 minutes in and out of shop!) and the prices were great. There are artisanal bakeries in the short north that charge 3 times what Beehive charged me today. They sent a receipt to my email and I was quickly out and on my way. I think Ive found my new favorite place for baked goods - and its right down the street instead of driving towards downtown!

Casher did not know the ingredients of any of the breads. Only some of the ingredients were listed on the bread labels. I was referred to look at the ingredients on the website which I could not find. I did find an allergy menu which failed to say that soy is used in all the breads, the only thing the casher did tell me about.

The breads are always fresh and delicious. They usually have a great variety of samples that they are eager for you to try. The raspberry cinnamon rolls are my favorite! The brain bread is amazing toasted. We havent found anything that we didnt like.

Beehive Bakers has the absolute BEST frosted brownies EVER, hands down beats anyones anywhere....moist and perfect. I get them every chance I get (yikes) and highly recommend. Dont forget to get your "frequent visitor" card stamped too! : - )

I recommend Beehive on the basis of their spinach and sun-dried tomato bread, alone. It is PHENOMENAL and makes for amazing turkey sandwiches. Of course, they make lots of other good breads too--the pumpkin chocolate chip is another favorite.

I get bread here once a week. The bread is always delicious. I especially love the spinach and sun dried tomato. They also have a great salty caramel dessert bar.

This is a gem of Powell! Opens early and they make it fresh then, limited quantities. Reasonably priced and tasty!
