Today, my experience was disappointing. My mother had asked to have a kids sized portion of the quesadilla as she has had a medical procedure that only allows her to consume <3 ounces of food at a time. Her physician has provided her with a card to present at restaurants to allow for her to have kid-sized portions. When my very sweet, polite mother asked the waitress to be accommodated with a kids size, the waitress AND manager both looked down at her and said no. The manager tried to sound as if he was understanding and actually asked if she was on weight watchers and just trying to cut down on points. She even asked to pay for the adult portion and just get a kids sized portion. The wait staff just knew "NO" was the answer. Stated there were NO exceptions. When I stood up for my mother, the manager finally said he would make the exception just this once. I wish the Hazens would train their staff better to understand that this is not only poor customer service, but they are now losing 5 loyal customers all because of $3 difference in a meal. Food is not exceptional either but we have always loved the atmosphere. After this service, we will not be returning.

Food was stellar, and the price was right! My friend said their quesidilla was probably the best hed ever gotten for the amount we spent. Expect a loud, lively atmosphere (family friendly), but not too loud that you cant have great conversations and share stories with friends. Great for medium groups too. Waitresses are plentiful and service was superb. Constantly checking in on how our meal was, filling our waters just as they emptied, making sure our chip bowl had plenty of chips, etc. Make sure to ask for extra napkins, some of the food can be especially messy. A bit difficult to find an up to date online menu though, but a mute point (especially since most places in Potsdam have virtually no web presence). One could say that the spacious interior could use some updating, but I think it adds to the experience and shows history of the building, especially since its one of those older orage brick buildings that the Potsdam area is famous for. Plenty of free parking across the street. Slightly hard to get to though, considering how awful the roadmap of Potsdam is.

Great food and, according to my dining companions, great drinks. I didnt know about the Cactus Grill until a professor in one of my grad classes moved our classroom to what is now my favorite Mexican restaurant. The food is delicious from the complimentary chips and salsa, to the chile con queso, and the fajitas. I would like to give a special shout-out to the shrimp quesadillas which are fantastic. The service was quick and friendly. The only negative side is the atmosphere; there is a section of wall that is heavily damaged and some of the wiring can be seen colored to match the murals on the walls. However, this did not distract me from a great dining experience.

The bar portion of this restaurant is great if you like margaritas (the only place in town that serves them) and mixed drinks (if dont mind your glass sticking to the table), the restaurant is ok. The food is what you would expect from a "Mexican" restaurant in rural NY (ie. nothing authentically Mexican). Servers are generally nice, but dont expect a huge amount of attention as they seem to constantly be overworked and understaffed. My last visit I had to hunt down a server to bring us silverwear after our food had been served. The ladies bathroom has a toilet that is always broken and is generally pretty filthy. Overall its an ok place to have a drink.

I only came here because my girl friend likes the food... I told the waitress that I didnt want any vegetables in or on my food. She recommend something to me and assured me it wouldnt have anything on it.. It was loaded with green peppers. I asked her about it and she said o they dont put that in there most of the time and walked away I will never come back. Not to mention my food had lettuce and tomato and some green pepper sauce all over it. Train your staff on whats in your food or do a better job at writing it on the menu if there to dumb to learn.

Terrible service. Staff very poorly trained. Shrimp that was not de-veined (read: intestines still attached). Quesadilla inedible due to extreme amounts of garlic. Had to send it back. Charged the wrong amount for drinks (they were on special that night) and the manager argued with us about it and did nothing to resolve the issue. Eventually he just walked away and stopped talking to us. Bathrooms disgusting. Have heard from friends who work in the kitchen that its absolutely filthy. Never going back.

Food is so so . Waiter smashed a whole tray of food and it splashed on the wifes coat, ruining it. Though at first, the managers seemed helpful, they became less helpful once the dry cleaning bill and 25 dollars seemed unreasonable for a 200+ coat. If you go, I suggest a full suit of armor to protect you from college waiters who are inexperienced and are fair at service , at best. Better trip is Lake Placid area for better experience.

Service here is hit or miss. One time the server dropped my meal and I waited about 15 minutes for my food to get there. Meanwhile the rest of my party was finished eating. Thankfully they had pitchers of margaritas to keep me happy :) Overall the food is pretty good (considering we are in upstate NY). Its also usually pretty busy, but I have never waited more than a few min for a table.

This place deserves its 17 Zagat score. It was okay. Service was okay, although the young lady who seated us was annoyed that we did not sit where she had placed the silverware (its hard to find help these days, I hear). Salsa was excellent, but the chicken fajitas were just less than mediocre. Fajitas did not come with guacamole, rice, or beans.

It is what it is. Lots of meat, lots of cheese. Sure its not real "mexican" or maybe not even real "tex-mex". Im not really sure, nor do I care. The salsa is great. It has the perfect amount of heat. The portions are big. You usually have enough to bring home for lunch the next day or a late night snack.

This mexican food is not the best in the world. The meat is sometimes dry, the salsa is too spicey and the restuarant is just plan too loud as its in an old factory. Dont go there if youre planning on have an intimate conversation. However the Margaritas are to die for.

The bad: Uncooked beans, stale chips mixed in with fresh ones, stale chewy corn tortillas, unripe avocados in the guac, soggy chip bits in the salsa (very bad sign of reuse). The good: cool building and decor, great salsa/pico, good service. Would not recommend.

Amazing outdoor patio - for the summer season of course. It overlooks the River and has a great colorful porch. If you like simple mexican food, and terrific margaritas - this is a hit in potsdam.

Big fan of Mexican food and this is by far the best place Ive been too in the area. KC is the best waitress they have, hands down. Was super polite and kind. Ill definitely be returning quite often!
