Let me start by saying that the food was really good, aproaching amazing. My burger was one of the best that Ive ever had and my girlfriend says that she really enjoyed her Philly Cheese Steak. But... It started as a bad experience from first walking in the door. The place was empty. And I mean empty, maybe one table seated. So, we asked for a booth was was told that the booths were reserved for parties of 4 or more. It was 1:50pm and there was no one there. No line, no one waiting. The lunch rush was over. Supper is hours away. So, why couldnt we sit at a booth? Next was the temperature. 79 degrees outside but it mustve near 90 inside. Being uncomfortable makes for a bad experience to me. The service. Have I mentioned that the place was empty? Ok, so if there were only one or two tables how could I have ever waited to have my Coke refilled? We waited and waited.. But I will say that our server was nice and friendly. Will I ever go back? Yes, I really liked the food and maybe it was just a fluke about everything else? The oddity of being in an old brick basement was cool. I loved the troll outside. But Its not a must see in Louisville. Paul

It started out good. The fried pickles were delicious, but it went downhill from there. My wife ordered the beer cheese burger and I ordered the shrimp Po boy. My wife ordered her burger medium well. It came out burnt. The char was so bad it overpowered the taste of the beer cheese. And my Po boy was mostly lettuce and seven little shrimp. For almost $11 I expected more. We talked to the manager and when we told her about the lack of shrimp she said it was a cost issue and theyre working on it. Um, whats the issue? Put some shrimp on your shrimp Po boy. It should be called a lettuce Po boy. I replaced it with the mushroom swiss burger and ordered it medium well. When the replacement food came out, my wifes burger was cooked better and not burnt, but mine was. Hindsight I wish I sent it back, but at that point I was hungry. They didnt charge us for the Po boy, but did charge us for the burger that replaced it and didnt comp my wifes burger that we had to have cooked twice before they got it right. We heard good things about the restaurant, but we left disappointed. We dont plan on going back anytime soon.

I went at lunch time with a co-worker and was less than thrilled. It is a very nicely set up diner. I love the decor but the food and service....not great. It wasnt very busy while we were there but our waitress wasnt very attentive. I ordered the lunch special with the turkey sandwich and chili and it took forever to get our food. My chili was cold when I got it and I had to send it back. When she brought it back it still wasnt hot (big red flag when it has cheese on top and the cheese isnt melting). I couldnt send it back because as I said we were on lunch and we had already been sitting there an hour. The chili did have a good flavor, I just wish it would have been warm. The sandwich was missing a few ingredients, it only came out with lettuce and turkey on toast. I wish I had liked it more but I hope you have a better experience than I did.

We waited 45 min or more for our food and the place wasnt that busy. Another person in our group found plastic in her burger which the manager tried to play off as a piece if egg from Breakfast. Now, this was at noon, breakfast had been over with for 2 hours, if youre using that as an excuse you might want to make sure your grill is,bring properly cleaned, because it is not. Also, I watched an employee clean the trash can with a towel and put that same towel back in the cleaning bucket that was used to clean counters. Maybe they were having an off day that day, but Im not sure how they got a 94% on their grading. Grant it we got our food for free because if the hassle, but Im not sure if Ill go back. (Btw, we still left the waitress an $10 tip. It wasnt her fault the kitchen took so long)

The service was exceptional. I was in a group with 8 other people and they did their best to accomodate to our large group. The people here were really kind and appreciative of our time here. The food was well-cooked and perfect in any way desirable. The taste of our meals was pleasant but a few had strange aftertastes. I ordered the fish and chips, and I shall say that it was delectable yet the fish had a strange aftertaste. The service was fairly good, considering the large number of people in the vicinity. It was slightly crowded, and quite noisy, but the waitress was kind and was able to find our table with relative ease. The restrooms were clean and thematic, as well as perfectly polished and was overall a great bathroom. Overall, my experience here was an low A-grade experience.

As I meandered down the stairs and towards the bar, which isnt anywhere near the front door, I was wondering if I was going to regret my choice. It felt almost deserted as I walked past the only couple sitting in any of the large booths. The bar at least had a few people sitting at it and it was here that this place made all the comeback. Though Im not sure if it was Louisville that sells this place or actually the Troll. The people were ultra friendly, the whiskey selection was quite nice, and many local beers were to choose from. So whether or not this was Louisville at its finest or the people who run Troll are doing it all right, Im not sure. But Ill be back again to see if the service and atmosphere is a staple in this historic bar.

Our server was excellent and I love the atmosphere but the food was mediocre at best. I had the southern comfort buger, asked for it med rare. It was well done, the cheese was dried up on top like it had been sitting under the light for a while and they forgot the onion straws on top of it, the bun was also too toasty almost hard. They ran out of basil and instead of telling us they just left it off of the pizza like you wouldnt notice that! Come on that is a main flavor on a pizza with tomato and BASIL! It wasnt late either. It was 7 on a Friday night and not that busy. I probably wont be back. I would like to, but for an $11 burger, I may not risk it. Good luck! Jen

I cant rate the food or service, because they were randomly closed for some reason. We planned our day trip to Louisville around going to this restaurant for lunch. I looked at the website several times before going. There was no mention of being closed for lunch. We met my husband there and there was a typed piece of paper saying "well be closed Tuesday, April 3, 2017" (???....it was actually Tues. 4/4/17). We were disappointed to say the least and had to walk several blocks to eat somewhere else. A simple message on their website would have saved us some time and aggravation. Perhaps well go back and Ill get to rate the food and service.....if theyre open.
