I have been a patron here for quite some time, and shouldve written a review when things were good. However, I recently put in a to-go order several hours in advance. When I arrived, the order had been lost. The staff did not say this; in fact, they led me to believe that my order was "on its way" and that I should simply "remind" them of what I had ordered. Given that I did not have a specific order in my hand, I wound up with a dinner that was incomplete. Look, I can understand misplacing an order, and had they been honest, Id have nothing negative to say, because what we ended up with was delicious. However, the fact that the staff thought I was stupid enough to believe that the order was waiting for me (yet, incomplete) was offensive. I will absolutely not give them my business again.

had dinner 09/02/09. ordered pulled pork sandwich with two sides and a bbq pulled chicken sandwich. buns were cold and stale. the tomato served with the bbq chicken was not fit to serve much less to eat. the pulled pork was ok but nothing special. bbq chicken was also just ok. service was very good. sides were slaw and baked beans. beans was very good slaw was just ok. to be a championship winner you certainly would not serve cold and stale buns and a tomato that was half green and not eatable. i would expect more from 17th. street and mr. mills. we have been there before and the meal and service were both good. not great but good. i also was a certified bbq judge with kcbs as was my wife. probably would rate it a (6) just ok.

10+ year patronage really want to give this 5 but cannot.gone down since expanding to Marion. lost 1*over consistency and another for price. brisket is *5star and the ribs are Pappies quality - yet even these are inconsistent, seemingly cooked whenever someone gets around to it- which, if fresh are worth every penny. altogether the sides are ordinary and overpriced. bag salad, bad blue cheese. personally like the sweet vinegar slaw and the p.salad, yet objectively small portion. always ribs leftover yet never sides. loaded baked potato for example never has a load, often indeed a lacking spud. services very sporadic often too subpar. Marion location is better.... which is sad because the city of Marion and king Bob suck

Been to the Murphy location 4times now and only once has the service been good. Went yesterday and as usual the wait staff are all huddled together in the corner of the restraunt chit chatting. So we get seated an it takes our waitress about 20-25 minutes to take our food order after we get our drinks and app, mind you the place wasnt busy so I dont see what the hold up was. As we look around we notice that its also taking a very long time for anyone else to get theyre orders taken or to even get the check. This literally happens everytime! The Marion one has a lot better service so guess well be just going to that one from now on.

This might be the best restaurant in Murphysboro, but thats not saying much as the only other options are Hardees and Dairy Queen. Ive been stopping by here for years when I do business in the area, and the quality keeps getting worse. The only redeeming features are the service (generally quick and friendly) and the $3 beers on tap. Maybe the food is better on the weekends; it is barely passable for lunch on a weekday--and pretty expensive to boot. Better BBQ options are in St. Louis; see Bogarts, Pappys or Adams. All worth driving two hours...

My kids enjoyed the food, they were fans of the fries. But my husband and I were not impressed with the food. After ordering food and waiting a few minutes, were informed that theres no brisket. We changed our orders, food was late, the kids became restless. The ribs were dry and looked like they had been under the heat lamp for a few hours. The meat in my sandwich was dry and flavorless unless you covered it in the sauce. And the coleslaw was bad. The fries, and sweet tea, and the service for the most part were good.

Best barbecue on the planet. The half rack with the hot link sausages may be the best meal I have ever had, Baked beans are incredible, and the slaw is vinegar-based. I had never had vinegar-based slaw before, it was totally unexpected, and exceptionally good, especially on top of the pulled pork sandwich. I was in the area for three days and ate at 17th Street four times. It was that good. Im looking now for an excuse to go back to southern Illinois.

Surprisingly the worse bbq restaurant I have been to. Although I have lived in Cincinnati and Texas which are both known as bbq places. I asked for a double bourbon and coke in a tall glass, and they gave it to me in a small glass. Then the bbq came and they gave me a tiny amount... 2 small strips. When I said something to them, they refused to correct their mistake. The okra on the other hand was very good.

Having heard so much about 17th Street Barbeque, I was psyched to visit on my trip down to Murphysboro. However, I was sorely disappointed by the ribs, which came out cold/lukewarm- it was a Sunday night and not busy. On my second visit about 6 months later, the same thing happened! Hopefully these were two flukes, but I cannot recommend a visit here anytime soon unless something changes.

I have family in the area and every time I visit (several times/year) I make it a priority to eat here. Great service and GREAT food. You can order in bulk to take home as well. The pulled pork BBQ is just amazing and you can freeze it and eat it for a long time. I love this place and their magic dust and their homemade sauce. Highly recommended!

No mild sauces. All were too hot for me. Baked beans were too spicey to eat. When I asked for a different side, they got it for me, oh yeah! Charged me for the replacement also. No way is the bbq worth going back for that treatment. Flavor of the meat was awesome though. Took it with me so I could enjoy it at home with mild sauce.

The Food is great, the staff are friendly, and service is quality. As with any restaurant youre going to have busy times. Theyre pretty good about having enough staff during the busy times but there is a wait time. If you order a steak they cook it right then! Overall its great food and a great atmosphere.

Know all about it. They claim to have award winning ribs but the recipe they used to win is NOT what they serve. Instead you get dried out meat with too much BBQ sauce and some sweet potato. Ive been to many smoke houses. This one is below average dont believe the hype
