This popular brunch place definitely attracts lots of people during the weekends. Ive been here twice, both times having to leave because the wait was over an hour. Luckily on my third time (third times the charm!), I didnt have to wait long - in fact, one of the waiters approached my friend and I to ask us if we wanted to sit at the bar, thus skipping the wait. Of course we took the opportunity, and despite it being a bit cramped and uncomfortable (especially when another party later joined us at the small space), it wasnt too bad - there were even purse hangars available underneath the bar for us to hang our purses! My friend and I decided to split two different items. We ordered one savory and one sweet dish, which was a really good idea because I dont think I could have finished the sweet dish all by myself. We ordered the Green Omelette (13.5 - asparagus, broccoli, spinach, avocado, scallions, feta and roasted pepper salsa) and the famous baked Crème Brulee French Toast with Fresh Strawberry Sauce and Crème Anglaise ($15). While waiting, we were given a few slices of raisin toast and butter to munch. So I think the food is good, but I dont think its so great that I would wait over thirty minutes to eat it. The prices are quite high, yet nothing really stood out. The Crème Brulee French Toast was tasty and I can see why its a popular dish, but Im not a fan of sweet dishes (as much as savory), so I found the overall dish to be cloyingly sweet. The sauce was too drenching, the toast was not too tasty. I couldnt finish my half of the order. I liked the Green Omelette much more. It was much more fulfilling than the French toast. The omelette also came with rosemary roasted potatoes, which were tasty. I didnt quite like the broccoli and asparagus inside of the omelette, but it wasnt bad. The salsa definitely helped bring a little kick to the eggs. The restaurant itself isnt too big, but I think the petiteness of the café is what sets it apart from other brunch places in the SGV. Tables are very close together - I feel like if I picture those commercials where the women are sitting outside of a cafe talking and chatting, Julienne was able to capture that scene. Theres outdoor and indoor seating, with lots of interesting decoration to line the walls. We sat right across the espresso machine, so we saw the workers making coffee, plating dessert. All of the workers were pretty nice except for one lady who snapped at the waiter when he asked if she would help take a photo of my friend and me. I understand youre busy, but your sharp attitude and words towards our waiter even made me cringe! Theres also a small to-go place where you can buy baked goods, cookies, stationary items, decorations, etc. Theres a parking lot in the back, but if you cant find a spot, try the streets nearby. tl;dr - Im glad I was able to try this place out, but I dont think its so amazing that I would return just to try it again.

I wrote a review two weeks ago and have returned to update it. Ive eaten here for 17 years and returned after being away for a few. I was surprised that a waiter--who must have been having an off-day-- tossed the bill down before Id finished and had been waiting to order another beverage. All to say...whats a Rolls Royce with a little scratch? Still a Rolls Royce. When I returned again, it was the Julienne Id known and loved. Charming, elegant style, graceful service from all the staff, and the food and drink wonderful. San Marino is lucky to have a restaurant that fits the caliber of the area. For those concerned about price, this is most definitely a world in which one gets what one pays for. Of course there are greasy-spoons and pancake places that offer less expensive breakfasts--fortunately this is not one of them. Their prices are absolutely appropriate and reasonable for the combination of ambiance, service, and great food (including the to-go food in their charming market). Dear Owner: Would you consider taking the menu to the next level with the addition of organic items? You are at the top in many ways and this would be yet another step higher. The LA area restaurants at large need to step up and join the movement of offering at least some organic/non-GMO foods. Thank you--so happy youre still there and lovely as ever!

I have been dying to come to Julienne for years and I finally went today for lunch!! Note that the restaurant is not open on Sundays - even though Sundays are the perfect days for brunch. I have seen so many pictures posted of the Creme Brulee French Toast and that is what I got. Honestly, before I got it, I already knew it was going to be too sweet. I think it fits more as a dessert than an entree. The strawberry sauce was REALLY good and not to sweet. The french toast is good but a lot of it got too soggy. I think this is a great dish to share between 4-5 people, but for one person to eat the whole thing, it is too much. But OMG the seafood pasta was AMAZING. It came with pieces of salmon and perfectly grilled shrimp. The pasta itself was very good and the sauce was REALLY creamy but not overwhelming. Usually, I am not a fan of white sauce, but this one was really good. The portion was perfect too. The service was great and they gave us a refill on the amazing rosemary currant bread! My other favorite thing about this place is the outdoor seating so I was able to bring my dog with me. He loved the rosemary bread as well! :) Overall, a great place for lunch! I want to try the lamb sandwich next time!

French country themed small breakfast/lunch restaurant in tres chic (tres WASP except for the wealthy Asian population this very beautiful, but very Conservative area has deigned to let in) San Marino. It is charming. The food is good. The prices moderate. The store connected to the restaurant sells to-go sandwiches, salads, pastries, and cookies. The store also sells very, very expensive French-themed gifts, books, kitchen linens, soaps, candles, etc. It is fun to shop, but bring your wallet full of cash or credit cards if youre planning to buy any of the gift items. It is on a par with Lincoln in North Pasadena, although the menu specials at Lincoln are more inventive. You can get a fairly inexpensive breakfast if you order off the a la carte part of the menu. And they poach their eggs unfailingly to YOUR specifications. All in all I recommend this little cutie for its charm, ambiance, pretty good food, and intimacy. It is small so it is not a place for groups.

Julienne is located in a beautiful area in San Marino. There are plenty of outside seating for when the weather is nice. The restaurant itself has a old world feel to it. The service is good but the food was definitely slow coming out. We ordered the green omelette and the creme brulee french toast to share. I wasnt impressed with either of the dishes. The green omelette was flavorless but it did have a lot of vegetables in it. I think it could have used different sets of veggies for color and flavor. The creme brulee french toast was just okay. I really didnt get much creme brulee on top and it just mostly melted by the time we got it. It was also way too heavy and filling. I may come back here to try some other dishes but I would skip the creme brulee french toast next time.
