Im really sorry to say this, but we had the absolute worst experience of our lives here. The service was incredibly bad, its almost as if they were TRYING to ruin our night. Our first waiter was doing soju shots with the party behind, apparently getting drunk enough to forget to turn our table grill down since it turned black and smelled like I dont know what. Speaking of the party behind us, they were by far the most disrespectful restaurant guests ever. After every shot of soju they did a scream from hell would follow. They were asked to tone it down two or three times, and we figured that that would at least do something, but quite the contrary. They kept screaming, turning our experience more and more into a nightmare. On top of this, instead of kicking them out, which any responsible restaurant staff would do, the headwaiter brought them another bottle of their favorite beverage. After rushing through our dinner to get out of there, we get the check just to see that they added a forced 20% gratuity, here quite ironically called a "Hospitality Charge". For obvious reasons we didnt feel like paying this, so we asked the waitress what it was for, and we also asked where we couldve been informed of this. It was on the menu. On the very last page. Printed in an ant sized text. After bickering with the waitress for a few minutes, during which she acted seriously unprofessional (rolling her eyes, sighing, waiving her responsibility for the restaurants guests behavior), she asked us to hold on a moment, just to go serve two other tables instead of trying to solve our issue. After doing this she finally got the headwaiter to remove the " Hospitality Charge", who then had the nerve to ask us who we thought was screaming and ruining our dinner. The one who served them their bottle of soju asked who was screaming. Incredible. With all this said, the food was perfectly fine considering the price. Weve definitely had better, but it was okay. We had a pork combo which was $79, and it was basically half a pound of meat for everyone (we split it four ways). There were plenty of sides and most of them were tasty. The interior does look very nice as well, but Id rather sit in a rusty shack and eat mediocre food than experience this level of service again. We will not be returning. In short: TAKE NOTE OF THE 20% SERVICE CHARGE. In our experience they do not deserve it. The only positive thing about this place is the music and the fact that any service you experience after going here will make you feel like youre at a Michelin starred restaurant. Update: As if the service wasnt enough, I got food poisoning as well.

Hanjip is the Korean Benihana. However, behind Hanjips classy facade lies a dispassionate environment serving high-priced fat and a 20% slap to the face. My wife is from the Philippines and has had pork belly and shoulder before and enjoys there unique flavors. So, we felt comfortable ordering our pork combo plate. Yet, when we left, 80% of our meal lay either on the grill, or spat out on the plate. To be asking $49 for such cheap cuts of meat with 90% fat is a rip-off to me. The real insult, the hard slap to our face, was to receive our check with a 20% tip tacked on as a, "hospitality charge," for their service. I understand the servers are doing more by cooking our food table-side, but cmon, theyre serving us crap cuts of meat for $50. Plus, one of the servers wore sweatpants. I almost always leave a 20% tip, but that assumes the server at least dresses the part. It really pains me to see classy places like Bottlerock and Lunch (where Hanjip is now) shut down and replaced by such degradation. My wife and I do notice The Wallace next door consistently seems to be busier; so, perhaps, Hanjip will go the way of so many other restaurants in Culver City. If so, the next place should be called, "Gromit." Then people can ask, "Where should we eat tonight? The Wallace, or Gromit?" .....Get it?

This is all you can eat Korean BBQ. The service was excellent. Definitely the best service Ive gotten at a KBBQ place without having a Korean friend with us. Our servers were very kind and attentive even though it was a pretty busy night. We came on a Sunday night without reservations and waited about 10 minutes. Theres outdoor seating but these dont have the personal grills. There are two differently priced options for the type of meat you can get. Its a little bit pricy in my opinion but the food was delicious. My favorite was the garlic beef. The only reason Im taking off a star is because I really wish there were more side dishes. This place had less side dishes (that were free) than others Ive been to. All in all, I think this restaurant is pretty darn good for being one of the only KBBQ places on the Westside. Definitely recommend if you dont want to drive all the way to KTown!

Excellent Korean BBQ restaurant. They care about their patrons and are very customer focused. The first time we visited with a group of 4, the service was rather slow so the manager gave us all of our drinks for free and on top of that a generous discount on our food. That was more than enough for us, but he even invited us to come back later and have dinner for free. We indeed came back and he honored his promise. In terms of the food, all meat options we tried were excellent and we liked especially the marinated short ribs. Theyre very generous with side dishes as well, which are all delicious and fresh. I definitely recommend this place for everyone looking for tasty high quality food at a customer focused restaurant in a very nice spot in Culver City.

Going to help the rating out a bit. Probably closer to a 4.5 until I found out they charge a hospitality fee and didnt see a notice anywhere. Before the downgrade: The meat quality, which is the most important at a kbbq place is a 5. One of the best. However where some other places excel, this place lacks a bit. Not a lot of good sides, asked for refill and it never came, had to ask for the sauces, and didnt have best service (guess not a lot of kbbq do). The gold plated grill is nice and helps prevent meat from sticking too much. Would definitely come back and try more of the meat. Nice Culver city addition.

I had to go to the hospital within 30 minutes of being there, because after telling my waitress I had a seafood allergy & asking her about 5 times if something had seafood (and being told no each time), it turned out the item (and multiple items on the table) had seafood. She came back about 10 minutes later (as I was beginning to feel a reaction coming on) and asked if I was really allergic, because the item I was currently eating did in fact have seafood. If you dont know whether or not something has seafood, please ask the chef before serving the item to a person who has an allergy. Somebody could die.

The quality of meat was off the hook good. The service was perfectly timed for me. Im not a shove your face AYCE person so qualty is more important than quantity. I especially liked that they changed the grill often because Im gluten free and I was able to enjoy Korean BBQ without getting poisoned. I ate only the unmarinated stuff and the grills were changed in between. How cool is that? Its not a place to go with time challenged people because their reservations are strict.
