First let me say my son and his GF liked the food. As for my husband and I with our special needs daughter will never given the opportunity we were asked or told to leave the manager said one of the other patrons was annoyed by my daughters Extremely Loud voice when we confronted at Patron when they left the business they were told that they went bothered at all so management wanted me and my family to leave so we left too bad we really wanted to try their food but I will be putting the word out not to take your children there and not to take a special needs kids there Im sorry if my daughter was a little loud for you she would have quieted down once you started eating and it would not have been a problem have you given us more than three minutes you would have realized that its too bad because well never go back and anyone who ever asks me I will tell him not to even bother to go to your place. Oh and FYI who went to Pei Wei right after we left your place I had a very nice dinner they dont mind if my daughter goes in there because they know as soon as she starts eating shes quiet and most people if not all dont mind to see special needs individuals out in public anymore this isnt the 1940s

The buffet at this restaurant is not consistent in options and quality on a daily basis. One day, the choice of options and richness of taste is absolutely incredibly amazing beyond belief, which originally made it my favorite restaurant ever. But then another day, the choice of options and taste is absolutely pathetic. This wide variation must depend upon their mood, which is completely unacceptable. If having a divine taste experience at this restaurant is based upon a lottery gamble, then why take the risk dining here? And finally, the water they serve tastes like genuine poison. If a restaurant owner actually had any respect for their customers, they would serve them clean & purified water, especially if it is classified as a healthy vegetarian restaurant. There are gyms who charge only $30 or less per month that possess a digital reverse osmosis water-filtration system, because they care about their clients health. If I have spent $100+ per month at the Udupi Cafe restaurant, it is a joke that they also do not possess a water-filtration system for the health of their customers. I will not be attending any longer.

My dear non Indian friends-- The food served in this place is not even 1% representation of what authentic South Indian food is. Leave about the authenticity of the food (which can be toned down quite a bit to suit the local crowd) but any food thats has absolutely no SALT and served cold (when its supposed to be served hot), is nothing but a joke. I dont mind paying extra $$ for good food but this is such a place who couldnt bother to either taste the food before getting it out or atleast made an attempt to keep it hot at the beginning of the lunch time. We returned home hungry after paying 36$ (including tips) -- a total waste. Please do yourself a favor and dont even attempt to taste the food -- even if its given for free. I wont!! On a positive side - the service staff was attentive and were trying their best to accommodate the customers. Thats not enough for the worst food though.

The service is down right horrible! Their food is "ok" but if youre really concerned with your health and what you take in then be careful. The food has NO protein in it! Just empty vegetarian food. Dont be fooled. I asked the manager what kind of protein foods are on the menu and he couldnt even give an answer...actually he said there isnt any except for "chickpeas". SERIOUSLY?? Horrible! Also, he has an attitude problem. I called him over to ask a question and he gave me the hand (LITERALLY!) My friend and husband was shocked. My husband had to go up to him and tell him to come over and answer my question. Also, they dont check in to see if everythings fine and they take long to take your oder. I dont know if its an Indian man taking orders from a woman thing but he needs an attitude adjustment. Not worth my time. All the best with that restaurant!

I have traveled a lot of locations and had been to other Udipi Cafes on the east & the west coast branches. I am not sure if the phoenix one is under the same management or not, but relatively the udipi cafe on N scottsdale rd does not stand up to the reputation. The Bad: Limited variety to chose from. Which restaurant says it is 100% Vegetarian Indian and does not have Paneer, Potato in the menu.??? Instead they has Tofu curry( not even close to Paneer...!!!!!) The Roti/ paratha were stone cold. The Good: The complimentary Masala dosa they offer & the Desert station. The Ugly: Price for Buffet on weekends: $13 (just the buffet, doesnt include any beverages). Bit expensive...!!!!

Udupi Cafe used to be the most popular Indian vegetarian restaurant in Phoenix at one time. Sadly, it has gone down the same trail that many Indian restaurants in Phoenix seem to take - have very good food when they start and gradually slide down in quality over the years. Service is inconsistent and lacking. Plenty of American buffet restaurants have simple, straight forward, consistent service. It is an easily repeatable process. Not rocket science! At least, serve us the dish we actually asked for, twice! Only reason I am giving a 3-star rating is that they serve vegetarian South Indian food, one of my favorite cuisines.

After mistakingly moving to Houston TX and having been searching for a high quality vegetarian Indian restaurant for six months now, I realized what a jewell Udupi Cafe in Tempe really was. Always fresh, vibrant food. Buffett items are changed daily, so even if you are an addict like me and go a lot, youll never be bored. The ambiance is clean, staff - friendly. The incense aroma on entering the place sharpens your appetite and prepares you for the feast. This is one of the few strictly vegetarian Indian restaurants in the Phoenix area, and it is certainly one of the best of them all. Bon Appétit!

First and foremost the service is excellent. Our app was #5 Samba Vada was good. From Kristy: the #8 house special (gobi manchurian) was phenomenal. It tasted and looked scrumptiously unhealthy, but was deceptively (and deliciously) vegan. Aw. Thank you, Kristy for that fine review. Now, my dinner, this is Scott, was Kadai Bhendi Maala-OUTSTANDING! I was going for a vegan curry dish this evening and it was perfectly prepared and delicious. Our sin for tonight was the deep fried bread, Poori, it was orgasmic. Prices are very reasonable and I recommend this restaurant without hesitation.

The idli was dry, the dosa decent but really no flavor. Sambhar was ok - nothing special. The service mediocre but thats to be expected. Dosa is only available during the buffet if you know to ask for it. They should walk around and offer but they dont. After a 9 hour journey from Atlanta I was so hungry and craving Indian food. Based on the reviews we went and even my husband who is not picky at all said the food was mediocre. I really dont know how you can mess up idli and dosa. Also the chef came out of the kitchen - no hair net, no gloves and touched his nose and went back in.
