I graduated from UWM in 2009, and I frequently speak with other alumni about how much we have enjoyed it since. I still live and work on the upper east side, and The Black Rose is an enjoyable spot. Late on week nights and weekends it fills with college students, so if that is not what you are looking for, then I wouldnt suggest it. I have enjoyed their dinning and drink specials. I have developed a great relationship with a few of their staff, and am proud to call myself a regular. This is great for night life for UWM students, while it keeps them spending money on the east side for some OGs after bar... all while avoiding expensive cab rides downtown, or worse drinking and driving.

If you are a girl and physically assaulted at this bar, do not expect the bartenders/ bouncers/ manager to be there to support you. I was assaulted and instead of fighting, I asked for the customer to be removed. Instead of this happening, the manager said he had no proof in a she said/ she said situation- when in fact, I had a drink all over me and so did my boyfriend. I will NOT return to this bar since they do not care about their customers safety after incidents threaten someone (ie this girl only wanted to start a fight so threw a drink). Good luck to anyone new to this bar bc the regulars will call you out for just being there.

One of the friendliest bars on the East Side. Great staff, good prices, and good atmosphere. Great music selection, and not too loud so you can still talk. Bar dice friendly. Great specials everyday. In addition to talented bartenders, the food is phenomenal (since it comes from Solo Pizza). This is a bar that you regularly go to and become friends with the staff. Once you come here you wont want to go anywhere else.
