I hate this place. I moved to Madison a few months ago and had been perfectly happy with my usual, healthful breakfasts of yogurt or raisin bran and fruit. Then I wandered into Mickies for a late breakfast. Since that date, I show up three times a week. (Okay, five times some weeks, if you must know.) I am a simple man. My favorite meal is three eggs over easy with home fries and coffee. Alas, these are precisely the menu items that MIckies serves up par excellence. In addition, I grew up in the Bronx, NY, and the noisy clatter from both patrons and staff regresses me to that happy time. I fear that the results of my next yearly physical will show that my cholesterol level has increased and that the doctor will query me as to why this has occurred. I will lie. Damn you, Mickies.

If you dont mind the wait... Mickeys has very sizable portions of breakfast staples. Ive had omelettes, pancakes, and hash browns, and all were inexpensively priced while filling me up before a Badger game or the morning after a night of excessive drinking. The food is your basic greasy spoon fare, and it will be served quickly once you get a seat and order. However, you might wait in line around the block to get a table. If you cant stand for an extended period of time, it is raining heavily, or you dont like being seated shoulder to shoulder, you might want to hit IHOP, Perkins, or Original Pancake House instead. Ive had great times at Mickeys, but Ive also had the worst dining experience of my life here.

Why are people complaining about this place being overcrowded!?? If its crowded, its because the food is good! If you get there and the establishment has a line to the door, go somewhere else that day! Dont just stand there like a chicken with your head cut off complaining about the line. Its not like Mickies isnt trying to go as fast as they can to get the most amount of business possible... Theyre not trying to slow you down so that you cant get your food "in time". Quit complaining about the wait, youre not stuck in a line, you ARE the line. Just go on a day and at a time when you know its not going to be busy its not like you have to go there every day...

Food was tasty and with fresh ingredients. Portions on par with the price if not a bit better. The staff was fantastic, friendly and accommodating as well as well informed about both the menu and the Madison area (for tourists and the like). The food came very quickly and was good and hot. The mens washroom was clean and with a large glass block window, very sunny which was nice. Can be pretty crowded so be prepared to sit rather close to fellow diners. This was no problem for me as everyone there was nice and ready to introduce themselves and start a conversation.

So. Much. Food.!! I ordered the chili cheese omelet and my friend the scrambler -- we couldnt eat it all which made for a nice lunch later on. Food was tasty and the price is right, especially considering how much food you get. Our service was decent, a little slow and she only came around once to refill my coffee which is slightly disappointing if youre used to the typical "bottomless coffee" service. To her defense, though, it was packed while we were there. Overall, great experience and will definitely return!

A very tasty breakfast. The wait can be LONG and its a bit crowded in there, but the charm is undeniable. We both split a side of corned beef hash and agreed that we wished we had both just ordered it for entrees - our regular breakfast dishes were good but paled in comparison to this amazing side. If youve ever had Cincinnati chili, the seasoning they use tastes similar and its unlike any hash Ive had before. So good. Service was good, as well, especially considering how slammed they were when we came in.

We ate at Mickies Dairy Bar this morning for breakfast. The "home made corned beef hash" I ordered had several burned (charred black) spots, but they still served it to me. I took a bite, it was absolutely inedible, and I left the rest on the plate. The waitress had the nerve to ask me if I wanted a box to take the rest to go. Sorry, but the food was gross and the service was bad. My husband wanted me to add his experience: The gristle chunk he spit out was the size of a thumb. Seriously disgusting.

I make a trip to Mickies just about every week on my way to campus. Tasty food, good prices and unbeatable service. The entire staff are so friendly, and they go out of their way to be sociable with customers. Its true, the place can be crowded, but if that bothers you just go on a weekday - theres hardly ever a wait. Finally, just want to applaud their menu items beyond the typical fry-up fare - their soups, fresh baked goods and sandwiches are delish and made with love. Way to go Mickies!

Without a doubt one of the best breakfast/lunch restaurants in Madison. Come hungry and I dare you to order two pancakes. I love the old standard 2 eggs, bacon (crispy), yanks (yes, get the yanks - incredible fried potatoes), with whole wheat toast ... if you are adventurous go for a scrambler. If you happen to be in the mood for lunch - the burgers and milk shakes are tasty. The kitchen is fast and the service has always been good - even on weekends when the place can be packed.

The service was detestable. My coworker and I were asked to leave because we were not yet ready to order and other customers needed a place to sit. When we later returned with the rest of our party, we all found ourselves waiting nearly an hour for our food and drinks. My grilled cheese was cold and the cheese was not even melted. A coworker found a hair in his fish. Overall, the experience was miserable, and I do not ever intend to eat there again.

Great Breakfast Food! The servings are huge! If you come for breakfast, dont even consider lunch since you will be so full. I tend to prefer their pancakes. My favorite are the Strawberry since they are VERY FLUFFY. The griddle cakes and banana pancakes tend to be heavy and thick. Cinnamon rolls and coffee cake are very good as well. I enjoy the steak and eggs as well. Just get here early, it fills up quick.

Mickeys has an awesome 50s vibe. Its friendly, local, and cozy despite how busy it can be on the weekends. Their milkshakes are legendary, and if you go there and dont get a Scrambler, youve really missed out. I wouldnt recommend heading there on a game day unless youre feeling very committed, but its typically not too terrible a wait on your average Saturday or Sunday. GF options available.

Its hard to find amazing classic diners like this anymore. First of all, the place still looks like it did back in the 50s, even have their original menu and prices up on the wall! But more importantly, the food is A-Maze-Ing! Seriously, the food is delicious, and to say the portions are generous is a complete understatement! No matter what you order, you will leave full, and with leftovers.
