The food here was downright excellent. It was fantastic food. The service???? Not so much. Upper management was absolutely to blame for this one. We arrived here at about 7pm on a Monday night, and we were the ninth table to be seated. For all those nine tables full of people...there was one waitress. You could tell that she had way too much work to do for one person. She was a bit frazzled trying to multitask taking care of so many people. The entire time that she was trying to help so many people, three of what I believe were either her bosses or upper management were over in a different corner of the restaurant DRINKING BEER while this poor waitress was trying so hard to keep up! You would think that a GOOD business owner would recognize that there were simply too many people for one waitress to help, and would get his butt up from drinking a beer to help his customers! My boyfriend tried to order a 12 ounce beer of a certain kind that they claimed they had on the menu, but they were out of it and he had to get a different kind. I ordered some chai tea, and then ordered the Chicken Karob (spelling?) and my boyfriend ordered some type of chicken dish with spinach in it. With both of our entrees were supposed to be able to choose whether we wanted basmati rice or naan, but the waitress never asked. At most restaurants they bring your drinks to you immediately so you can sip on them while you wait for your food to come. But our drinks were not brought to us until the food came. When the food did come, there was only half the rice then their should have been. She said that the rest of the rice wasnt ready and would be coming shortly. Then as we were getting ready to eat we realized that boyfriend hadnt even been provided with silverware, so we had to ask for that. The food was very, very good. I have no complaints about the food at all. Both of our meals were delicious. The rice that came with the meal was great, and we ordered naan so we could try that, and it too was fantastic. When we were finishing up our meal, there were only about three tables of people left (including us). THIS is the time that the boss/upper management guy decided to put on an apron and come around and ask how everyone was doing. We just said we were fine because I already planned on complaining here instead. What I have to say is this: We wont be back. Your food was awesome. The waitress was actually quite lovely. Although she was a little scatterbrained and forgot about fine details (asking for rice vs naan, providing with silverware, etc), she was EXTREMELY nice. The only reason she was scatterbrained in the first place was because there was only one waitress for nine tables of people. She was overworked and under-helped. If you are the owner of this restaurant, I would urge you to take care of your customers: your upper management shouldnt be sitting around drinking beer and chatting it up while one person is striving so hard to take care of your customers. We want to eat at places that treat their employees right, and there was no way that girl could have helped everyone who came in.

Ordered 2 orders of chicken tikka masala with rice and 2 pieces of nan. Picked it up, got home, opened it up and we received two orders of chicken in stewed tomatoes and peppers, without Nan. Im fairly certain it was just the wrong dish since it was literally 70% peppers and the sauce had no cream in it at all. Called to get one order replaced (one person just sucked it up and ate it). Offered to bring in the meal to exchange it, cashier told us not to worry about it to just come grab the replacement meal. Friend left to get the correct order and then they start calling me. First the cashier calls saying the cook insists it was the right order and we need to bring in the first order.... I tell her my friend already left and should be almost there and didnt bring the meal because she specifically told us not to. Then the cook calls me, yelling at me insinuating that were trying to steal food and saying were lying. My friend arrives at this point to pick up the order and the same guy apparently tells him he wont replace the order and then follows him out to his car. The whole thing was just absolutely ridiculous. Even if they didnt want to replace the meals or the nan that they completely left out they could have just said that without calling us liars and being massive jerks about the whole thing. Definitely wont be returning.

Overall dining experience was average- par for the course in the restaurant wasteland of Vancouver. Service was hurried and unprofessional. The inexperience of the server was evident and did little to make our visit enjoyable. The food was flat, I ordered lamb vindaloo, and asked for it spicy. The flavor was mild at best and the dish had fewer than 6 bite-size pieces of lamb (poor value for the 14 dollars). Disappointing as vindaloo is supposed to be very spicy. We also had tandoori chicken and although impressive on the presentation, the flavors were dull and lackluster.Average seems to be the high water mark in Vancouver- So if you are into mediocrity; This is the place for you.

Chutneys Indian Restaurant and Grocery has incredible freshly made food that is full of flavor with traditional Indian spices. From butter chicken to fish pakoras, the dishes are amazing and delightful. My favorite is goat meat with a wonderful naan made with fresh real garlic and cilantro: wow! And, don’t forget to try the mango ice cream with saffron. I loved the experience! They also have a store where I marveled at the diversity of items on the shelves and back walls. They have sweets imported for New Jersey, Indian spices, packaged food, meats, frozen items, and other pastries. I also saw colorful bangles and divas.

I called without knowing they open at 5 p.m. at 4:30 p.m. the girl was very friendly and she asked me if it would be okay to prepare the food for 5:15 p.m. I asked her if I could have the food before 5 p.m. because I have to leave and Im in a hurry. She went to the kitchen and came back telling me the food is ready in about 15 minutes. I really appreciate that. The food was excellent the bread was delicious and the Chicken Masala Tikka was even more delicious. I highly recommend this place for anyone who likes to eat good food and and cares about great customer service.

Staff was friendly, restaurant is beautiful, but most importantly... food is GREAT!!! I had the Goa Shrimp and wanted to lick my plate clean. Food comes in a bowl, so be sure to order a side of rice if you want more than just the amazing contents of the bowl. The owner came and greeted us at the end of our meal and asked us for any feedback or comments. He said he is a new manager and has been listening to prior customer feedback, and wants to make sure everyone is getting a great meal. Top notch place!

What a total disappointment. Ironically, all 3 dishes lacked seasoning/spice. The vindaloo was spicy (hot ) but the gravy lacked a depth of flavor. The biriyani was the same, plus had poor quality of lamb meat. The garlic Naan was made with garlic from a jar. Again, this means flavor suffered. The raita was watery and had lost any yogurt flavor. The only redeeming dish was the dal makhani. It actually was pretty tasty. Never again. If you like Indian food, go to Abihiruchi on Mill Plain. I will.
