Absolutely not worth the price we paid. We just moved to the area and have been frequent patrons of Japanese Steakhouses such as Yokoso, Wasabi, and Miyabi. If youre expecting a similar experience, dont go here. An older establishment that could use some updating, but overall clean. The staff was friendly and the chef was entertaining, but the food was disappointing. Very small portions! I have never left a Japanese Steakhouse without leftovers, until yesterday. The amount of rice and vegetables I was served was actually smaller than amount of my main course, which was smaller as well. My husband ordered steak and scallions, but did not get actual scallions. He was served scallion cut fish. There is a big difference in taste and price. White sauce? Not a staple here. You have to ask for it, and it was pretty watered down. I asked for no mushrooms when I placed my order, waitress asked if I was allergic. I said no, I just dont like the taste. I was served mushrooms anyhow. My son doesnt like eggs. The chef picked up on his facial reaction when he started to cook egg beside the rice and happily offered to keep the egg out of my sons rice. My son was relieved, well done chef. We were each charged extra for fried rice, which has never happened before and honestly wasnt clear on the menu, but the waitress did ask us if we wanted fried rice...she just didnt tell is it was going to cost extra. She did, however, make sure to tell us to "keep in mind" that the tip we left would be split between herself and the chef. Classy.

We visited this establishment on Christmas day for my girlfriends birthday. This was our first time visting and our first impression I have to say wasnt a good one. We set up a reservation for 7:30pm. When we got there on time mind you, we werent seated because there was a back log of reservations which we some what understood because it was Christmas and possibly the only place open at the time where you can get some decent food. So we waited at the bar area. We sat at the bar and waited for for about 10 minutes before we were asked what we wanted to drink while there was a server at the bar. So we ordered drinks and when asked if we needed anything else, I asked when we were going to be seated and why it was taking so long. The response we got is what rubbed us the wrong way. Basically what was taking so long to be seated was the fact that other people were LATE for their reservations and the restaurant wanted to accomodate them so in turn it pushed every one elses reservation back. So in turn we (along with others) were being penalized for being on time. No good in our book. We were compted a few extra drinks to ease our pain for waiting and the rest of the night was pretty good. Food was excellent, but the service not so much. Well probably visit on another occasion to see if things got any better. I recommend for the food.

My husband and I ordered take out from here because we didnt feel like dining in. When we called to place our order they told us we would have to wait until a table filled up and a grill was lit - meaning they dont cook the food in the back. We waited an hour and 15minutes for our food. Aside from waiting forever for take out, the service was great; the people were very kind. My shrimp and steak were fabulous, but the rice, the thing I was most excited about, was not good. I was super bummed the rice wasnt better since I cant make fried rice. The ginger sauce was amazing and so was the salad dressing. The soup was not good though, it was dull in taste when its supposed to be salty - at least thats the way it is at every other Showgun weve been to! My husbands meal was good, but honestly for the price, take out wasnt worth it. I can make steak and grill a whole pound of shrimp wayyy cheaper. Its usually worth the price when dining in because you get to see the chef prepare the food in front of you hibachi style, but without the show and the fried rice youre just overpaying for steak and seafood.

We looked this place up while on vacation in Virginia Beach. It was my sons birthday and he wanted to go out to hibachi place. My wife fired up Yelp and found Shogun. It wasnt very far from where we were staying. The staff there is very friendly staff, checking with us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. The chefs were great with the kids and prepared the food perfectly. Throughout the evening the staff and the chef engaged us in conversation, asking about out stay in VB and entertaining the kids. I can definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for great meal and a friendly environment.

Went here to celebrate my Daughters 11th birthday. Was told it would cost $7.95 for them to sing to her. Waitress was terrible, she did not smile the entire time and acted like she did not want to be there. Food was OK, I have had better in a mall food court. Portions were small compared to other hibachi steak houses I have been to. Rice was cold by the time the vegetables and chicken was done. Also the chicken was over cooked.

Perfect hibachi experience. Cool lounge with friendly staff to wait for table. Good sushi, creative and fun drinks. Plus the chefs are always amazing, funny and put on a show that is awesome! This is the original VirginiaBeach Japanese steak house. Always have our Birthday parties here and when out of towners come in we go here every time. Dont forget to get a kettle of sake and share with the chef!!

Make sure to make a reservation before you go. The wait time can take a while. I love spicy tuna rolls, but when my order of spicy tuna rolls came, the meat was super light and seemed more like salmon roll. It tastes funny and the roll was not firm. This place is overpriced and the food is not that great. Go somewhere else.

I went to a few Japanese steakhouses - Shogun was the dirtiest of all! Food was average but that place desperately needs a renovation. The grease is latterly dripping of all walls and the tables looked nasty. What I wonder is how they can win the HamptonRoads rewards? Those testers must like dirty dark restaurants??
