Sad, so sad. I drove for 4 1/2 hours to enjoy my birthday at the Globe and Laurel, and to stay at the base on Quantico where I was stationed. The service, lets say -- I had reservations at 7:30 when I arrived no one was at the front so we headed for the bar and here we go --ordered drinks and they were served next to two finished glasses from previous people and had to ask to have them removed and clean the bar, they did not have a towel and had to get one, the Pub Room had four seated at a table no one else, we had to ask to have the table cleared, we sat with our drinks and after a time asked if anyone was working our table, we had to ask for water three times, salt and pepper, napkins with a knife fork and spoon, one meal came out 12 minutes after the others, asked four times for a wine list, then had to ask for wine glasses, never received a second round of drinks after we ordered twice and it gos on all the while the table next to us was dirty with all the glasses and dishes from the previous diners - it was never cleaned while three staff were at the bar joking around, there is more as the now owner Major Spooners son was as we were told in the cigar bar, what can I say there is more but no room to write, the food was not special and the paper napkins I could get at McDonalds, not with my steak. Major Spooner had a great restaurant which is now gone and never to return, neither will I.

Living in the area for a couple of years we finally decided to go try out the Globe and Laurel. We went on a Saturday night with family members that were visiting. We didnt make reservations, and fully expected to have to wait since there were six of us. We walked in and were asked very rudely by whom I am assuming was Gloria if we had reservations. When I said that we didnt, she practically yelled at us and told us we would have to wait. That was it, then she walked away yelling at a waiter telling him to get moving. There we two people waiting in front of us and we were all pretty shocked with how she was acting. We waited just a couple of minutes without any further acknowledgment and left. We could not believe how rude the woman was. We will never go back since this seems to be the way they want to treat new customers. Its too bad, we had been really excited to try the place out for a while, and assumed it would be good since it was run by a former Marine in a Marine town, and thought it would be right up our alley since 3 of the six of us are Marines. ALSO, just standing inside the doors, it was hotter inside the restaurant than it was outside. I agree with the previous reviewer, the Major should definitely keep his bitter old wife at home and away from customers. Really too bad, wanted to eat here for some time now.

I really really wanted to like this place, but I didnt. The Globe and Laurel is such a huge institution with the marine corps in this area that I was actually saddened by the massive failure that was my dining experience. The food was terrible, I dont know who is running the back of the house but they either need to be fired or re-taught how to cook(I can say this I am a chef). The menu is way too small for any of the food to not be impeccable, and certainly way too small for all of the food to be terrible. The prime roast was not even remotely seasoned, neither was the jus that it came in, and to top it off the steamed vegetables had absolutely no seasoning whatsoever. If you cant do the simplest things well then you usually cant do anything well. The front house staff is confused, non communicative with the back of the house or vice versa, and they where constantly apologizing for cold food, mixed up orders, and the time it was taking for the food to make its way out of the kitchen. I know this review may seem a bit harsh but the Globe and Laurel is an almost 50 year institution, I honestly hate to see it in this kind of shape. I would love to go back and support this restaurant, but they need to make some serious changes or I cant see them surviving for much longer.

This was one of the worst restaurants we have ever been to. 10 of us went for my nephews graduation from quantico and were very excited from the reviews we read. We had a reservation, but ten minutes before our reservation they were not set up. Once seated they did not wait on us because the waitress was still working with another party. It took 20 minutes to be waited on. The food was brought without baked potatoes we ordered because they were not ready. Once they brought them after we started eating the food they brought out cold, the potatoes were raw. One steak we ordered rare was over done and could not be cut. The worst of this experience was how we were treated and that they did not feel they needed to do anything to help us. They tried to tell us they gave us the potatoes for free but they came with the meal we ordered. They were extremely rude and made it seem like it was all our fault. DO NOT GO HERE.

By far one of the worst dining scenarios that I have ever experienced. We booked the place for a buffet dinner, for our Marine reunion group. I was appalled by the unprofessional presentation; mystery dining would be an apt description. Nothing placed on the tiny buffet table was easily identifiable. The manager was out of his element. He was overwhelmed with trying to feed a group that had pretty much lost their appetite for food and drink at this establishment. It reminded me of a disorganized fire drill. Its like they never before served a large party. Almost immediately they ran out of the unedible fare. The place was a dive, memorabilia or not. You cant eat it so whats the point of going there. Try the Germans restaurant across the street where several of our group defected upon seeing the mystery buffet. The place is surviving on its past "Laurels".

Worst dining experience ever. Not busy, but took 20 minutes to get menus, 50 minutes to get water. After an hour, a new waitress came out to take our order, saying the original waitress couldnt handle a group! (15, with a reservation). Food starting coming out an hour and 50 minutes after we arrived, but the last meal came out 35 minutes later! When we asked to speak to a a manager, he said a cook had walked out on them, but that didnt explain why our orders had to be taken a 2nd time an hour after we arrived. He said he hadnt known about that problem. If a manager of a restaurant doesnt know on a slow night that a party of 15 had their waitress completely fail in her job and that they have not gotten their food until over two hours after they arrived, how do you expect the rest of the service to be?
