If I could give no stars, I would. Cafe Rio has great food, which is why I wish so much I could use them for work functions where lunch is provided. Unfortunately, under no circumstances should you EVER rely upon their catering service to arrive on time, with the correct order, or even at all! I ordered twice from Cafe Rio and both times the driver was late and the order was wrong. So I quit using them. Then a couple of weeks ago I got a phone call from someone in catering asking why I hadnt used them in quite some time and had something gone wrong. I was very honest with him and said that yes, something had gone wrong. Orders were late and wrong and I needed work orders to be right and on time. He asked that we give them another chance because they were working on improving their catering service and hed appreciate it if we would try them again. So I did. I had a meeting scheduled for the following Monday and needed to have lunch delivered for approximately 20 people. That was a mistake. I should have been paying better attention to the clock when meeting time rolled around but had been busy with work and realized too late that it was 30 minutes past the time when they said they would be set up and ready to go. I called the catering number and was told that the order had left the store but they couldnt locate the driver. By this time it was 45 minutes late and I suggested they contact the police since this driver had been missing close to an hour (shouldve been a 7-8 minute drive to deliver to my workplace from the Layton store). She very kindly offered to keep trying to reach the driver, but in the end was unsuccessful. I quickly went to plan B, which was to contact Cutlers Deli in Layton, who came through for us in a fabulous way (had lunch ready in 30 minutes)! Lesson learned and relearned. DONT USE CAFE RIO CATERING unless you dont mind late, wrong, or no shows.

I love Cafe Rio and visiting the restaurant, because we dont have one in Texas. Love the food, but 1 Star for service!!! Oh my awful awful, poorly managed or something!! Ordered the food at 6:15 pm online, online it said food would be done at 6:45 pm. So we got there at 7:05 pm thinking it would for sure be done! Got there, Pick up line was long... maybe 12 people, but like 10 people still waiting for pre-ordered food. Frustrating though because, line maybe moved up 2 people in 25 min. Waiting waiting no warning, no one telling us that after 30 or more minutes waiting in line, that once you got to "Register" to Pick Up the order that it just showed them, that you were there and that it would be another FLIPPIN 20-30 minutes, and they actually hadnt even started making your food. So waited 30 minutes plus, in pick up line, while my mother was waiting the whole time in the car with my 4 kids. Could not make them wait another 30 min for them to actually make the food... what a waste of time! Ordered at 6:15pm and food wasnt going to be ready till after 8 pm! I am mad because after waiting 30 minutes just in pick up line, there should have been someone working there, letting us know when we "arrived" that they ran out of tortillas and that it would be another HOUR and almost 2 hours since we ordered our food, till it was actually ready! What a waste of time. I wish after waiting that long and no one letting us know what was going on, that after having to cancel our order, being there that long and walking out the door with no food, a little compensation would have been nice! Lots of people walked out the door mad, after I told the employee, how she really needed to let these people know what the deal was before waiting 45 minutes in line just to pick up the already pre-ordered food, that it would be another half an hour to make it! Awful experience! Wont come to this location again!

This location is ridiculous! Every time I order from this location something goes wrong. The first time the lobby was absolutely DISGUSTING. The floor was sticky and when I asked one of the employees near by if we could have it cleaned up, he told me he was off the clock and told me to get someone else to do it. Then he continued to ignore me as I kept talking to him. Second time we ordered online. I went to pick up my food at the time it was supposed to be done. I waited in the store for an hour for my food to be done. They were out of grilled chicken, out of caso. The girls at the cash register were having a hard time at the register and the supervisor would not help them and was total jerk. So tonight stupid me decided to give them the benefit of the doubt...again! Order was not done by the time given. They had 40 minutes. They were out of rice. And apparently black beans too since we didnt get those on our salads. And they were out of sour cream. I seriously am so done with this location. They need to make some serious changes. I love Cafe Rio but they do not represent the company well at all. Layton location, get it together already!

Excellent Beef Tacos, Hot Smothered Burritos, and Excellent Salads. (and as a general rule I dont order salads) The food never disappoints and the service is good. The food is so good, in fact that you may find yourself waiting in long lines at peak hours so be prepared. Through the line moves quickly, youll add a good 15-20 minutes of waiting. Cafe Rio has really gone downhill in recent months with the nickel and diming (for which I cant really blame them, were all strapped for cash). Beware if asked questions like "Would you like extra ______?" or "Would you like to add _______"... what they arent telling you is that each positive reply will add $.99 to your order and soon youll be paying twice as much. Get a frequent buyer card... youll use it that much.

I came to this review board to see if anyone else had a surprise in their food. Please click the helpful thumbs up if that is why you ended up checking google reviews. Our experience started out exciting, then ended in disappointment . My wife was really happy to pickup lunch for the whole family. She spread it out on the kitchen table and took photos to share with our family in New Zealand (and other online friends). Near the end of the meal I watched her take something out of her mouth. It was a crumpled up sticker (like fresh tomatoes). I just told her to thank cafe rio for lunch and next time be sure to ask , "Please hold the stickers." She actually kept eating and gagged up a mouth full before completely consuming some bone/stick like garbage.

*UPDATE* ...and to add to the painful experience, something about their burrito changed and my dog had to finish it. Very sad. Today was the most dreadful experience Ive ever had at Cafe Rio-- or any food joint Ive ever gone to. I sat in line for 25-minutes behind only a dozen people. When I finally got to the cashier, she turned to some customers in a different line who apparently ordered online. Thus I had to wait another 5-minutes. Nobody should ever have to wait 30-minutes for a burrito that costs $10 (I could also rant over their price increase)! Its a sad sad day... its time to change allegiance to Costa Vida. I hope management reads this and works to fix the problem.
