I come here almost every Friday night. I work at a hospital and Friday nights before I go in, I like to sit and enjoy coffee. Ive noticed an attitude problem that I think is an underlying issue. Tonight was really disappointing to me. I came in ready to order my usual. Two guys in front of me were taking a really long time to order. But there were 3 baristas all focused on these two guys who had a million questions about pie. I waited behind these gentlemen for exactly 8 minutes and gave up and turned to go find a seat. Frustrated, I kind of slammed my book on the table. I looked in the reflection of the window and noticed two baristas just staring at me and whispering to one another. I figured at least one of them would have come by, noticed that I had been in the line all that time, and urged to take my order. Unfortunately that did not happen and there was no such reaction. The baristas went straight back to attending these two gentlemen. About 2 minutes later, a couple walked in and the two baristas that had noticed me walk away quickly attended to this couple. I got up and walked out the back door and went to Starbucks. It was really disappointing. Former Friday nights, some of the baristas will not smile, not be so welcoming, have annoyed mannerisms at making my drink and I genuinely feel bad because I know how it feels to work closing shift so I figured thats why theyre not so approachable. I noticed that this location switches employees frequently so Im not sure if its frustrated new employees who are slow to detail but they definitely need to work on their customer service tactics. Delicious coffee, bad service.

I ordered a mocha with 1/2 the chocolate one normally has. When I picked up the mocha it had NO mocha flavor to it. I returned the coffee and asked for a little more mocha, the barista added more mocha (I couldnt see how much) and stirred the drink vigorously. I picked up the mocha and noticed it had way to much chocolate syrup. My guess is the HANDCRAFTED drink did not get the first of the chocolate syrup mixed in during the HANDCRAFTING process. The process they "pride" their coffeehouse on. So the barista did not like having the drink returned, added way to much flavor and was sure to mix it in. I was given the know-it-all look by the barista as she handed the drink back to me (as if I knew nothing about good coffee). I took a few sips put the mocha in the trashcan and walked away. I was at Roots comparing their drink to another handcrafted coffeehouse I had just visited an hour earlier. I will not be back to Roots coffeehouse I dont need baristas with an attitude problem. The other coffeehouse is a little closer to my house and much friendlier without the ATTITUDE. Roots lost this taste test big time. Try Trios way better.

Edison is hands down my favorite place to pick up coffee and I am in here just about every single day. Im a diehard fan of their cold brew; I even drink it when its 30 degrees outside! The staff is incredible. They truly take the time to get to know their customers (even by name!) and all of them give nothing but bright smiles and wonderful conversation to everyone that comes through. It has a great atmosphere and there are always some good tunes playing. Also I took one of their brew classes the other night and it was totally worth it. I learned so much, and you can tell through their demonstrations how much they love their craft. Absolutely recommend this place to everyone!

A welcome alternative - Im not very fond of Starbucks, so I found I had to go far from my usual routes to find a coffee house I enjoyed. But now with Roots on FM 407 and Briarhill, I have a new and pleasant option. A comfortable environment, with good coffee (limited options) and good baked goods. The breakfast menu choices are also quite limited, but its really a coffee house, not a breakfast cafe. One thing to work on - staff is still a little raw. They allow themselves to run out of brewed coffee and lose track of orders when things get moving. Im sure with experience, that will improve. I look forward to enjoyed Roots on a regular basis.

They have excellent coffee. In my mind, the staff has an infuriating focus on taking the customers order and money, but then taking their sweet time to fulfill the order. One of my friends waited patiently to ask for cream, when someone finally addressed her, they still went to the register and waited on two more customers before returning to bend down, to the same area they were standing in when originally asked, and hand her some cream. That’s been my experience for two visits and It’s infuriating enough, I wont go back.

Its close to my home and a real coffee house. The coffees are great, some of the staff know how to make those neat designs on top of a cappuccino. Much like the California Peets coffee houses which serve super coffee and excellent gluten free snack options, with the exception that this place does not serve gluten free at all. Has a nice outdoor patio in back and plenty of computer electrical outlets. It is a bummer that their coffee credit does not work as much as we have mentioned it to them.

Roots has always been a great place to study, drink fantastic coffee, and relax. The baristas can always recommend a good brew and are unfailingly pleasant no matter how busy they get. Everything from their drip coffee to their specialty drinks are excellently made. Ive been coming here for a few years now and have yet to have a poor experience.

Went there today for the first time. This review is getting one-star based on quality of product alone. I ordered a cappuccino and they had a Guatemalan blend espresso for the day. I received my coffee and after having my first few drinks I concluded that all I received was coffee flavored steamed milk. It was awful and I will not be going back.

the coffee shop was closed early when we arrived and the owner saw us. He came out and gave us cold brew coffee for free because he forgot to put out the closed sign. I was very impressed with his customer service and the taste of the cold brew. thanks roots owner for being awesome and hooking us up. We will definitely be back. 5 stars

As a web developer, I like to come here and work on my side projects on the weekend (usually Sundays) - and I have to say, Ive never had a bad experience. The baristas are incredibly nice, always smiling, and willing to offer suggestions for what to get (I usually ask them to surprise me). Keep on rocking, Roots. You guys/gals are amazing.

This place has really upped its food game and customer care. The atmosphere is so open and friendly. A lot of people come to study for long periodd of time since its right off campus, so getting a comfortable seat can be difficult at times, but the amazing coffee and filling food is worth a stop in before heading to class :)

I managed a coffee cart when cafe drinks were not too popular back in the day in Williamsburg VA. I must say, the coffee at the Roots is the best that I have had to include your great staff like Sol. My wife and I love your latte with the maple ingredient. You all are awesome! Rich
