So dont get me wrong, this place has good coffee. I would say its about on par with the pricing in Denton, with a pour over or espresso costing you about 6 bucks with tip. They have some interesting speciality drinks, one that Ive tried was a fizzy grape type drink and it was actually really yummy. However, after coming here about 5 times I will not be returning. I came in one day and asked the barista if they have coconut milk as an option for a cappuccino. The guy told me that they only have soy or almond as non diary options. Unfortunately, I dont drink either of those and coconut milk really is my only option. I told the guy it was fine and that I would just take a regular cup of coffee. He then proceeds to tell me that "yeah, we tried coconut milk with our coffee and we just didnt really like the way it made our coffee taste". And it was really awkward. Because I had just asked for coconut milk and the barista basically told me in more or less terms that at the shift they dont find coconut milk to be a suitable replacement for milk. So while I doubt he was trying to be, it just came off a little snobby and I felt uncomfortable. I doubt that I would return even if this hasnt happened, because they dont have coconut milk, but this experience just left a weird impression on me. I certainly understand them not wanting to sell a product that they arent proud of, but coconut milk isnt an usual product to use with espresso and I just found the whole exchange to be uncomfortable.

I honestly dont know why this place has such outstanding reviews. I think people just appreciate the novelty of it. They see the fancy names for everything and all of the dusty books and just pull the whole, "This place is so much better than Starbucks". The atmosphere is nice and the staff is really helpful--which is why I rated the place as high as I did. The coffee, however, honestly tastes like it could be from a convenient store. Which is fine, except you have to pay $6 for it. I have given the place a few chances and tried different things on the menu to no avail. Maybe it tastes great to some people, but to me, its honestly just nasty. My favorite coffee place, hands down, of all time, is Liberation Coffee in Coppell. If youre ever there, do check it out.

Stopped at Shift for a second time while visiting in TX. Baristas are very knowledgeable. Expect properly steamed milk and good latte art. I have had single-origin V60, 8-oz. latte, and a capuccino. All were very well done in regards to timing, weight, and temperatures. Forgot to ask what was in the espresso hopper, but it must have been an East African because my capuccino tasted like sweet blueberry muffin! If you are looking to enjoy the complexity and nuance of coffee in Denton, this is the place to go.

I drink high quality coffee regularly. The espresso and pour over I had today were both exquisite. The flavor profiles on both were clearly discernible; there was considerable nuance perceivable. The beans were high quality, and the craftsmanship was superb. If I may, Id like to channel Spinal Tap and give them 11/10: If you want excellent coffee, go to a 10 (of which there is at least one in Denton); but if you want phenomenal coffee, go here, cause theyre one better.

literally no sense of service. walked in and was greeted, but then never approached at the counter where myself and my companion stood for five minutes before obvious regulars cut in line and were immediately served. For the record, I normally dont care about the speed of service, but there wasnt any. Everyone seated already had drinks, and there were ample people behind the counter.

The best coffee shop in Denton by far! Such high quality coffee for a good price with baristas who knew exactly what theyre doing and who are always so friendly. What I love most is that they have all your basic options (latte, iced coffee, cappuccino, etc), but also have a few wild options for the people who are a bit more adventurous. You can also pick a bag of coffee here.

I was really in the mood for a good Reuben sandwich. So Google, "Reuben sandwich near me", and up pops Sidewalk Cafe. I tell you, it was not a good Reuben -- it was a GREAT reuben. Fries were perfectly hot and crispy too. Last, but not least, they have a wonderful, friendly, and attentive wait staff. Next time well bring an appetite for pie.

Angelo and the people at Shift are always attentive and nice to the customer and know how to brew a great cup of coffee. It was the first coffee shop in Denton that felt welcoming and not annoyed to serve me a cup of coffee. They are also accommodating to my dog and have the best cortado in Denton (the Topo Chico makes it)

Pretty good spot. I wish I could give this place a 3.5, but since thats not possible, Ill round up to 4. Heres my breakdown: - 4 stars for price - 5 stars for flavor and quality of the coffee - 3 stars of atmosphere (it feels like an "upscale" apartment complex and the mood isnt great) - 3 stars on location and parking

For the finest cup of espresso or loose leaf tea in Denton this is your place. Whenever Im tired of the hustle and bustle of the downtown, I come here for its chill vibe and friendly staff. As far as coffee goes, its never a gamble. They always brew a great cup of coffee.

This place was not what I was expecting, in a good way. It was severely under crowded, probably because I went on a holiday and the usual school crowd was out. The coffee was great, the atmosphere was chill, and there was a sweet reading spot with padded chairs.

I visit Shift fairly regularly. The coffee is the best you will find in Denton for espresso or pour over. Syrups are handcrafted in house for great flavors. If you are looking for really great coffee, this is your place to go!

Great place to go if you care about a great cup of coffee. Fantastic pour overs, especially, and have their game down to a science. They know their stuff and are willing to talk shop if you are interested.

The menu is limited if youre used to the great expanse of big name coffee shops, but I think this is probably the best vanilla latte Ive ever had. The atmosphere is charming, and the staff so friendly.

Amazing coffee and iced tea! My favorite is the Spyhouse pour over. Love the staff and atmosphere, also has a really nice patio with outdoor seating. Awesome local coffee shop feel

The coffee scene is competitive in Denton, but Shift is the best by far. Their attention to detail during the brewing process unlocks amazing flavors in the coffee. Best best best.

You pay for the hipster vibe. $5 for a tiny cup of "premium" coffee so you can look at their abstract art and one random bookshelf with books that havent been read in a decade.

A sweet hole in the wall near the square. Lots of cold brews, hot drinks, and other treats to pick from. Perfect for getting work done, this quieter spot is cozy and friendly.
