I dont eat here often (or my doctor would never speak to me), but when I do, I eat. And eat. The choices are legion, spread across steam tables for hot dishes and chilled tables for desserts and fruit. Along a back wall a sushi spread beckons with rolls and nigiri, and next to that theres a Mongolian barbecue setup manned by a friendly guy who is happy to assemble my ingredients to taste and throw them on that big convex Mongolian grill. The adjacent wall has a soft-serve ice cream machine and a bakerys worth of pastries and cakes. The chilled fruit table complements the desert wall -- I have peach slices on top of my ice cream, for example, and there are also fat slices of watermelon, plump purple grapes, and rich puddings. The entree steam table has General Tsos Chicken, beef with broccoli, and a dozen other offerings including, during dinnertime, steaming crawfish that, by themselves, would make a feast. If Im too early for dinner, there are still all the boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, and mussels that I care to eat. Theres baked salmon that was overdosed in cheese, which didnt work for me, but the cheese enchiladas led me to sing "Rancho Grande." Buffet King is not exempt from the rule that buffet foods sometimes suffer in quality for the sake of quantity, but that is true for only some of their dishes. Theres just too much good food here to worry over one dish that didnt work. After that huge feast accompanied by a pot of hot tea, I got out of there for only $11.72. I loved it, and Im counting my calories until I can go back.

I have visited this restaurant many times because the food is good and probably would have continued to do so until I realized I was dining with cock roaches. I will never return to this restaurant again and the only reason I would go to this restaurant is because they passed inspection. Someone is not doing their job right. Me and my family had just finished eating and we were waiting for the ticket to pay when a roach was crawling on the wall near our table. By the time the manager made it to our table the roach had crawled under our table. I made sure the manager was aware that I would be contacting the health department. I was then told that we would get a 50% discount off our meal if I didnt contact anyone...but that if I was going to call the Health Dept. that he couldnt help me. Such a disgusting experience. If they have roaches crawling on the tables where people are eating...what is going on in the back of the house where the food is being prepared.

Ive been here a few times and its always been good enough. But my last visit on 1/17/2016 My wife and I were mid meal when the people at the next table started to gasp and gross out , I asked my wife whats there problem and she told me they are pointing behind me on the floor so when I turned to look behind myself I see a huge ass rat ran under my table and it positioned itself between my wife feet. I asked my wife to raise her feet and then it ran under the buffet tables. she didnt believe me until she actually saw the rat under the buffet table. The manager said , Oh were working with the city to catch them and that the back of the restaurant is under constriction but didnt really show to much concern, just shrugged his shoulders and smiled humbly, Like Oh Well . We got up and left without paying and informed them I would be calling the health department.. I cant believe that only one other table left as we did..

Terrible service. Ive come here numerous times, and never have I ever been treated so rudely. Party of 5. We werent all fully inside the doors when the young hostess at the front yelled at us "HOW MANY" no hi, welcome, etc. And not just once, but twice. To top it off, the other hostess/waiter/manager not sure what he was, was so impatient, he snatched our party number off of my brothers hand when we didnt move quick enough. Trying to make us sit at a 4 person table after we had requested a larger table various times. Then they kept being rude because we refused to sit at a 4 person table/booth. I work at a bank, so I know exactly how important customer service is. Apparently some of the employees dont seem to get that. If i wanted to pay to eat at a restaurant that has terrible service, i would have gone to Dicks in SA. They at least get PAID to be rude.

Im not going to lie, this buffet restaurant was kind of sketchy at first but it turned out better than we expected. My friends and I spontaneously decided to try this joint out and thought to ourselves that it couldnt be any different from any other buffet place. Buffet King is actually really fulfilling and serves pretty fresh foods. They even have a section in the back where you can make and customize your own stir-fry. Their dessert bar can be a little better but at least they have ice cream to make up for it. Id probably go a couple times more to see if their menu and foods are consistent plus its close to campus which makes it even more convenient.

This is a good buffet. The sushi here contains some raw salmon which is usually hard to find at a buffet. That said, the eel sushi was a bit off-tasting. It tasted particularly fishy and had a few bones. I dont think it was spoiled, but it was definitely not right. The freshness of the sushi was on par with other buffet sushi. The rest of the buffet was excellent. The fried items were not overly greasy as you find in some buffets. They had some fried butterflied shrimp that was really good. I do have one safety concern. One of the pieces of teriyaki chicken had a small bone in it that I almost fed to my two year old son.

This was hands down and far away, the worst dining experience Ive had in the four years that Ive been in Austin. I know taste is subjective, but dried out General Tso and Sesame Chicken is just plain bad. Lo Mien was devoid of any flavor and really just strings of gelatinous organic mass. Sushi was just plain scary and even the ice cream had no flavor. How this place has a 3.8, or is even still open is beyond me. Maybe its okay for the sketchy area it has set up shop in, but I would have enjoyed the McDs next door more than this meal. Gets one star because Yes: it did have food and it was actually a buffet!!

Just left this place worst customer service Ive ever had, the manager tried to charge a whole 10 dollars for 2 pieces of crab legs (that we were unaware was a part of the dinner time) we hadnt ate the crab yet so i told him he could take it back because i didnt want to pay that amount. But his customer service in explaining the situation was horrible he kept interrupting me as i explained that i didnt understand what he was trying to charge me seeing as he had 3 different receipts. And was just being overall rude to the point were we disputed for almost 15 minutes. Never again going to this place.
