My wife and I just visited San Miguel this morning. I used to love going there when I was in Winchester on holiday, but they have definitely gone down hill. We are both managers of local coffee houses ourselves, so we are familiar with coffee. I will start out by saying that the atmosphere is great, but needs more light. At least half of the bulbs were out today. They also need to clean up a bit. It feels cluttered and messy. Their espresso machine looked like it hadnt been cleaned in a couple years and the steam wands were caked with old milk! Thats disgusting! The espresso grinder didnt look much better. You could just see all the oil and acid build up on it. Then the barista, after filling the portafilter with espresso and tamping, started banging the side of the portafilter with the tamper. This has been shown to be a bad practice, yet many places still do it. It creates cracks in the espresso puck, causing the water to disburse unevenly, which ultimately produces terrible tasting espresso. On top of that, they didnt even time their shots. I timed them myself just to see. 15 seconds! The industry standard is 25-30 seconds. It does make a huge difference, whether you believe it or not. So many people put so much cream and sugar and flavor in their coffee (like they are just putting together ingredients to bake a cake) that they cant even taste the coffee, so they dont care. But for people who actually like coffee, and not sugar with a hint of coffee, some quality control would go a very long way. I dont even want to know how old the brewed coffee was. The experts in the industry say that coffee expires about an hour after its brewed. The coffee beans themselves expire only two weeks after theyare roasted. And once coffee is ground you only have ten minutes to brew it before it goes bad. It is a fruit, after all. Would you eat a banana that someone peeled and sliced up a week ago? Or even a day ago? Probably not. Coffee isnt any different, folks. I would love this place to step up their game, and clean up their shop, since it is such a great location and its the only real coffee shop in the area.

When this shop first opened several years ago, it was wonderful. I would stop in and get coffee on my way to work for a special treat. Then the expresso machine started breaking down and they would tell you the expresso was unavailable. Ok. Things like that happen. About a month ago I stopped in and the machine was down again (I was not told it was down) they used a small home appliance to make my cappuccino, when I got out to my car, and on the way home, my beverage tasted like hot water with milk in it. It was terrible. I would have much preferred to have been told the machine was down. A few days later I had the opportunity to go back and say something to the person working the front counter about my experience and I was completely ignored and treated as if my complaint was irrelevant. Today my husband and I went to lunch (very rare for us to do). The food was fine however the service at the counter was horrendous! The fellow that took our order, Jake, did not make eye contact, did not wait for the person ordering to step aside before asking the next customer what they wanted, and virtually acted like we, and everyone else in the restaurant, were a burden on him. It was the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life! I have to say it used to be a delight to stop in for a special treat, now it is just one disappointment after another. I will not be patronizing this establishment again.

Great coffee, good food, really nice ambiance, and free WiFi. Its a perfect place to come and do some work on the computer. A great spot on the Winchester Town-Square that I hope will be here for many years to come. The stain glass windows, wrought-iron, antiques and decorated beams gives it a nice old world feel that reminds me of cafes in Europe that have real character. The old bank safe converted into a playroom for kids keeps the noise down. There are some nice secluded spots in the back if you want to blend into the shadows and have some privacy, while the seats by the windows gives a nice spot to sit back and people watch. The staff is really friendly and they go out of their way to make sure youre well taken care of. Highly recommended!

The filmmaking team from Pickin Up Tennessee (a litter-awareness project) ate lunch at San Miguel June 1, and it was fantastic, especially for a project that focuses on Tennessees unique scenic and cultural assets. Best pasta salad and smoothies ever! Decor is funky without being overly cute and the staff are just cute period. And nice as the nicest Southerners--which is saying a lot.

The coffee is good when you can get it. Ive been in a couple times and the espresso machine has been down. Also, theyre really bad with inventory. Once they are out of a particular flavor (i.e. Sugar free caramel) it will be MONTHS before its replaced.

By far, the coolest coffee shop you will find within 25 miles or more. Excellent sandwiches, salads, desserts, and smoothies, too. One can order at the counter or request service. Nicely decorated...need I say more.

Excellent soups and sandwiches. Especially good tuna salad. Pretty good coffee, and desserts just got a serious upgrade. Would be nice if they had pastries; would be great if they were open on Sunday!

I ordered an Americano and it took 10 minutes at least. When I got it. It was flavorless and the espresso was obviously stale. The decor was nice though. WiFI was fast.

Probably the worst coffee shop Ive been to, aside from Starbucks. It took about 20 minutes to get my black coffee to go and the place was filthy.
