Best dining experience we had our entire stay in Memphis! And we tried Central BBQ, Rendezvous, Germantown Commissary, Guss Famous Fried Chicken, Muddys Bake Shop, and Gibsons Donuts -- all of the eateries recommended by urbanspoon, travel advisor and other internet sources Have to say that we enjoyed Muddys Bake Shop, Guss, Gibsons and Germantown Commissary, but nothing compared to Bluff City Coffee. And we happened upon this gem not because of internet research/reviews or our GPS, but because we drove by and it fit our bill and time constraints so we decided to give it a try. We were short of time, but needed breakfast before visiting the National Civil Rights museum and nearby choices was Arcade Restaurant that was featured in online reviews or Bluff City which we happened to notice that served coffee and breakfast items. So glad we decided on Bluff City. It was small, unassuming, no wait, and offered a nice selection of espressos, coffees, pastries and hot breakfast items. We had an espresso, americano, two breakfast sandwiches on cheese bagel and croissant, cherry yogurt cake, cherry pop tart, frittata, ham & gouda croissant, chocolate chip cookie and brownie.EVERYTHING EXCELLENT!! The cherry pop tart was out of this world! Brownie delivers an assault of the taste buds in sequential layers, the slow velvety fullness that fills your mouth that you experience only from fine grade chocolate, then a moment of saltiness from the baking soda that subsides into a warm, depth of chocolate again.

We were walking downtown, and I was a zombie. I just wanted some coffee. I would have been happy with practically any place that sold coffee, but in the distance I saw Bluff City Coffee painted on the side of a brick building. Preferring to enjoy/support locally, we went to try it out. It was wonderful. A small, unassuming shop (I guess what most coffee shops look like). Very nice people who seem to take care to make good coffee (all espresso based). What got me was the baked goods. They make all of the food that they sell, and the food is crazy good. I had a homemade nutella poptart. Btw, that right there is enough said. My husband had homemade banana nut bread, and we split a cranberry granola ball. They also had delicious looking cherry danishes with whole cherries, and apple cheese danishes. I tried to convince my husband to take me back downtown this morning so that I could eat other things there, but alas, were supposed to go to the zoo. Great place.

This place is cash only, but they complain and act like its a major problem to pay with a $100 bill. The vanilla ice coffee had no vanilla flavor. The mango smoothie was ok, but it was just an over-priced commercial mix. While we were there a very rude, white, homosexual cook came out and threw a black families eat-in food on the counter proclaiming loudly "I put it in two bags, its all there" which of course it turned out not to be. When the father stated he was missing a particular sandwich, the cook very rudely and loudly stated that he cooked what he was told, huffed and went in the back. At no time did anyone from the establishment offer to correct the problem or apologize for the mistake. The father then went down the street to get more food. It may not have been a racist thing, but really seemed that way to us and we were bystanders. The family ordered food for seven people! Who doesnt try to take care of a good customer?!? We wont be back - Kudos Bluff!

I have had many experiences here. I have read several reviews and not one time have I ever had an issue at this establishment. I notice one reviewer who was downright harsh. This coffee shop and eatery has never shown anything but love for all the customers I have seen come and go. I make sure I stop by every single time that I am in town. The chef there, Brent, has attended my every single need and request for my food. The servers there are spectacular, but I have to admit Haley is my favorite. I surely missed her in the past but she is back now. She makes sure my coffee is delectable. I am one of those customers that most servers hate, because I ask for changes, but at Bluff City I have never felt ashamed to ask for anything. Thank you so much for being a wonderful business that I love coming to and bringing my child to.

Awful. They were supposed to close at 6:00pm. It was 5:30, my coffee was still 1/2 full and the OWNER (of all people) took it without saying a word. I said I was still drinking it, and he said, "Sorry, but were trying to close. Weve been here for a long time." They are 2 for 2 on rude, awkward service. Plus, they dont serve regular coffee...... and its in their freakin name! Other coffee shops that are downtown and serve great coffee with excellent service are the following: Tamp & Tap, Qahwa Coffee, and main street market (Ugly Mug coffee there is awesome).

What a cute little place! It seems sorta out of place on Moorland but immediately attracts your attention with the art covering the walls. The inside is the same, full of cool and colorful art. It has a really cozy feel several comfy sofas and a little library exchange with some antiques and art for sale on the walls. Not to mention the coffee and hot chocolate are delicious. I recommend the oh honey latte and the hummus plate (their home made hummus is to die for.) Cant wait to visit again soon!

I met David, the owner, at the Memphis Farmers Market last weekend. He was so friendly and easy to talk to and with a table full of delicious pastires I had to stay for a while! If you ever get a chance to stop by his booth make sure to say hi! The Cherry Cheese Coffee Cake was devoured way too quickly... and I hear the Strawberry Cake is to die for! I cant wait to back and try more!!! you cant leave the market without one of his goodies!!!! Thank you David :-) - Gretchen

The coffee is fine and the pastries are good. The main issue for me is that their internet is terrible. For example, it took me 5 minutes for the internet to work well enough to write this review (from their shop) and I dont know if it will still be working when I hit publish. This is a problem as it is the main reason I like to come hang out at a coffee shop. They could get an easy 5 stars from me if they updated the speed and connectivity of the internet.

Avoid this place if you can. Mold on the toilet paper in the bathroom. Given the wrong size drink and got attitude when asked for it corrected. My thank you was returned with a scoff. The girl behind the register was nice but the coffee attendant (wouldnt call her a barista) could use some lessons in drink making and people skills.

This is a great place when you look at the different types of food to eat but as for a coffee culture and environment. The coffee they serve is only espresso based with no other type of variety, except making the espresso coffee hot or cold. It should in my opinion just be a restaurant not a coffee shop.
