June 13, 2008--Williamsports second Thai restaurant addresses some deficiencies of the first but has some drawbacks of its own. One of the best things about Joy Thai is the balance of authentic seasonings. The "Coconut Milk Soup" (Tom Kha Gai) and the Pad Kra Prao were delicious. The menu key to spiciness is fairly accurate, unlike most Asian eateries in Central Pennsylvania. There is also a handy listing of 15 vegetarian options as well as the notation that many entrees can be prepared to suit vegetarians. The chicken satay appetizer is a large portion and beautifully presented. The Thai iced tea is very good and is also available unsweetened. The mango sticky rice is a very large portion and could easily serve two or more satisfied diners. One of the drawbacks overall is the prep of the vegetables, which tend to be left in large chunks even in the soups. Crinkle-cut carrots and big broccoli florets smack of bagged frozen veggies to me. (I am not an expert on Thai cookery, but a brother lived in Thailand for two years, and I have some notion of authentic national cuisine.) The menu does not use standard Thai names for some of the dishes, substituting English names that do not divulge much about what to expect. The service was excellent during a Friday lunch rush, and the ambiance is very pleasant. The restrooms are new, immaculate, and handicapped accessible (nearly the size of a "family bathroom"). The restaurant is in an easy-to-find location just two and a half blocks from the Market Street bridge with a metered city parking lot across the street. The entrance from the street is handicapped accessible but slightly awkward for someone who self-propels a chair. It is a great addition to downtown Williamsport.

I was in Williamsport for a meeting and used Yelp to find something near and I hit the jackpot. I walked in at 11:40 just after they opened. The place seemed clean and average decor. Lets face it if a restaurant is dirty when they just open you should run! The service It is hard to truly comment when you are there with 6 other people. With that being said the staff was very friendly and attentive always checking on me and making sure my drink was filled! The food I ordered the lunch special which was a soup and entree for 10.55 which was an amazing value. I started with the chicken coconut soup. It had great flavor and the had alot in it for being a cup of soup. For my entree I ordered the drunkin noodles and what can I say but wow. First off the portion was generous at for 10.55. The flavor was great and cooked to perfection. I honestly cant wait to go back and try more stuff when I am down there again!

My coworker and I were in Williamsport for a conference, and happened upon Joy Thai. Since we are both currently living in WV, we like to make trips culinary adventures and eat things we cant get at home, and we both love Thai food. We expected to enjoy it since neither of us had had Thai in months, but we didnt expect it to be possibly the best Thai food we had ever eaten. We split the Wheel of Fortune appetizer platter, which was delightful and filling - we were almost full by the time our entrees arrived, but we couldnt stop eating because it was all so good. He had the drunken noodle, and I had pad thai, both of which were great. Perfect blend of ingredients and seasonings and textures without any of those "off" notes that mediocre places sometimes have. I even called a couple of family members who live within a couple hours and told them it would be worth a detour if they were every nearby.

Joy Thai is amazing. My officemates and I go every week for lunch. The Pad Thai has more flavor than any other retaurant Ive frequented. Highest recommendations for the Coconut Milk Soup, which is warm and creamy with a citrus kick and the Mango Garden, a vegetarian yellow curry that comes in enormous portions. Service can sometimes be a little slow, as the place now gets very busy, but theyre extremely friendly and will help to answer any questions and accomodate special requests. BYOB, I recommend trying their Thai Iced Tea with vodka.

I was thrilled to find a good Thai place in Central Pennsylvania. We stumbled upon it by accident - were driving down 4th street and saw that the restaurant was busy, which is always a promising sign. The food was tasty and fresh, with just the right level of spice. The restaurant was clean, and the wait staff were efficient and friendly. Prices for the noodles and rice entrees were around $10, and the meat entrees were $15-20. The menu was fantastic - excellent selections for soups, appetizers, and desserts, as well.

Apparently the below reviewer who gave Joy Thai one star because of the closed sign didnt look to his left and see the burned out shell of the east end of the block that Joy Thai is in the middle of. The fire left this entire city block without power which, I assume the reviewer wasnt smart enough to realize, would affect the food in the coolers and freezers. The restaurant reopened shortly after and has been open ever since. The staff is gracious, their food is exceptional and the atmosphere is very comfortable.

Amazing food when they answer the phone to take your order. 75% of the time you call it goes to voice mail. By far the most annoying thing when it comes to ordering takeout. Not sure if they dont want the business or if they are just to lazy to take all orders. Never the less the food is good so I go back. If the service was half decent it would be my favorite take out in town.

Fantastic. What a Thai restaurant this good is doing in central PA Ill never know but well keep it. Beautiful interior. Clean. Wait staff exceptionally friendly. Food was served in beautiful Thai table ware appropriate for the dish. Entrees are reasonably priced at $10 each. More than enough for a meal. Great location is going to the theater later.

Larger portions than most Thai restaurants. Also generous on the protein. The coconut milk soup was passable. The ginger chicken was loaded with ginger (which I love) but floating in far too much sauce. I would return. Great Thai food for the area, but dont expect the flavors youll find in larger cities.

The best Thai food I have ever had, and a very large selection on the menu. Great atmosphere and service. Thai music and decorations make for a complete Thai dining experience. It is a little pricy, but that is not a problem as the quality of the food is outstanding.
