As a former employee, my review may be a bit biased. Nonetheless, the food, the people, the employees, the atmosphere, and most importantly, the beer, are all fantastic. The portion sizes are generous to say the least, and my personal favorite (classic fish and chips) has always made me leave with a to-go box. The entrées can be a bit pricey, but youre definitely getting your moneys worth. Union Barrel Works seems to attract a perfect blend of friendly and social people of all ages. Time and time again, I look at the bar and see a twenty-something year old talking to older gentlemen. They always talk and laugh for the entire duration of their visit. Tom, the owner and Brewmaster is often found walking around talking to anyone and everyone. The history at the site of Union Barrel Works is vast and colorful. Pictures and painting span the inside of the restaurant and newspaper clippings fill you in on the warehouse that used to exist there. Lastly, the beer is delicious. Everyone will find one they love. Its got a higher alcohol content, so dont have too many! Its a shame that chain restaurants are slowly killing off small businesses. If you really want a good experience with genuine people, give it a try.

When I first moved to the area in 2010, this was one of my favorite places to go. It feels like the place has gone downhill since then. The food quality hasnt been consistently as good as it was before and Ive had a majority of the menu over the years. The beer that they make on-site tastes a little stale, like the lines havent been cleaned or the glasses havent been cleaned thoroughly. The beer is unfiltered, and there are certain ones that I prefer here, like the Wobbly Bob Doppelbock and the Porter. Atmosphere is OK. It can get very loud if it is full and busy, almost deafening. Pretty cool site though, old factory building. You can see the beer brewing all around you as you dine.

after trying some of the UBW beers at a local brewfest my girlfriend and I decided to try the brewpub. We were very happy with our experience. the bartender was nice and extremely knowledgeble. The beers are awesome. I loved the Maibach and the Seasonal lemongrass brews. The atmosphere in this place is great. Cool barrels are everywhere along with old beer items from different local breweries. There was lots of space and lots of light (seems like most brewpubs in the area like you to eat in the dark?). My food was excellent! Another neat thing was the amount of nice people in the bar. it seemed like everyone was in a nice mood. None of those bitter regulars to scare you away!

My husband and I ate here for lunch. The service was really slow. It took an hour to get our food and there was only one table in front of us. The beer was mediocre and tasted watery. The food was gross. I only ate it because after waiting an hour for it, I was starving. My husbands hamburger bun was paper thin on the bottom and the whole plate looked like it had been microwaved to warm the food back up again. It is a shame because the atmosphere and concept of the place was nice. They were just poor on execution.

Very disappointed in this establishment. Been here about 5 or 6 times and its very inconsistent. From the food to the beer to the service, its very hit or miss. The same menu items taste different each time I go there. When its good, its good. But when its bad, its terrible. Im not sure exactly what the issue is but I hope they figure it out. There arent a ton of restaurants in this area and UBW has the potential to be so much better. I wont be returning for quite a while. Hopefully they figure it out.

The specialty omelets they have for Sunday brunch are wonderful. The Alaska omelet features salmon and capers and is topped with a lemony hollandaise. The Southwestern omelet includes black beNs, corn, cheese, salsa and lots of jalapenos. Both come with home diaries, which taste like homemade potatoes your mom made in a skillet. Great brunch choice if youre in the area cruising the antique markets on a Sunday and need a nice brunch and a cool beer.

Had a great time last night at Union Barrel. It was our first time here so we asked for some recommendations for food and drink. I had the beer flight which was priced very well. We both throughly enjoyed our meals. I had the prime rib cheese steak and my fiance the Pittsburgh salad. Both tasked great! We will return to this gem again!

Beer was mediocre. Had the homemade IPA. Im not a fan of places that try to brew their own beer. Occasionally you will find a good one. Tried a second IPA beer it was a little better but just OK. Food was average. Servers were very friendly but slow but it was a weekend. Watch your shoes, parking lot contains a lot of dirt.

Best beer, decent food. The crab cheesecake is to die for. You just havent lived if you dont eat that crab cheesecake followed by that awesome Pilsner , Tom brews the best beer around. Awesome selection. Try their beer sampler to know what s in the HOUSE. Gotta go back for more....

Bartender awesome. Other than that....wine awful...beer okay...food barely fair. Service slow. Temperature too hot in building. And hard to find the place with very little signs etc. We wouldnt go back. Again though, the girl bartender was great!!!

The bacon-wrapped steak special that I ordered was mediocre, but there were many other dishes on the menu that sounded delicious, some with interesting game meats. The service was very good, and friendly.

Love this place, been going here for a decade. The Round Boy Stoudt is delicious. Friendly staff, good food, great selection of craft beers, brewed on site. Something for every taste. Family friendly.

Untrained waitstaff. Vinegary beer. Seriously not good, both mine and my dining companions. Charred burger. 30 minute wait. Food was not good. Very unsatisfactory. God that beer was terrible.

Mediocre decor and felt like they didnt have their act together. Felt like the place was struggling. Beer was flat and nothing special. I could make better beer with an outdated Mr. Beer.

Been there many times on the way to Green Dragon. Great beers and food. The bar was originally from the Shoboat hotel in Reading. Not many about this, even those that work there.

Loved the atmosphere and old charm of the antique building. Food , beer and service were all excellent. Not many non chain restaurants other than pizzerias in the area.
