I moved to Mayfair a little over a year ago. I had a few buddies that grew up here and have long since moved. They did, however, tell me to try the Mayfair Diner. I did some asking around and the vast majority of the people who live here said, "Its not what it used to be" or "Dont bother". So I tried it a few times for breakfast: 2 eggs over easy: Eggs were small, Im not even sure they came from chickens...could have been easily mistaken for pigeon eggs. Sausage links: Actually, nice. Thick, and meaty...not all fat. Toast: Always seemed to be buttered cold. Ya know how when you butter cold toast and the butter doesnt melt in? Yeah..that. Service: Cant complain. Prices: Way, way, way way too high. Ridiculous. Heres true example: ME: Maam, whats in the Ham omelette? WAITRESS: Just ham. ME: No cheese? WAITRESS: Cheese is 75 cents extra. Would you like an omelette sweety? ME: Well, Im one of those guys who likes just about everything in my omelette. So, if I order an ommlette with ham, cheese, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms and peppers it will cost me $11.50? (the base price for an omelette is $7.00). WAITRESS: Yes, honey, sorry. Most places have a "build your own omelette" type deal first 3 items are included...or worst case 25 cents per additional item. $11.50 for an omelette? I dont think so. I mean...face it, even with what I put in my omelette, it MIGHT cost $2.00 to make. All in all, this place is an average diner with above average prices. And while I do believe there is a legit basis as to why this place became so popular, Im going to take the word of the locals who have lived here their entire lives...."its not what it used to be." Its def nothing to go out of your way for.

My best friend and I were out for an evening drive; one of those aimless drives that wastes gas but eases your mind. After an hour or so we agreed we would stop at the first diner we found, and Mayfair was it. We also agreed to order something different than our usual. She got a wrap, and I had the chicken parm. The food was delicious; way above standard for a diner. My only complaint is that for my chicken, the meal said "with pasta, soup or salad and a choice of two sides." However the waitress explained that you actually can choose BETWEEN the pasta or two sides. So that was a little odd... The waitress, though - and I wish I remembered her name - was the best. That perfect diner-waitress combo; seasoned but not crotchety, funny but not obnoxious. There was also no annoying retro-music forced upon us. Just a quiet but bustling, fun and tasty experience all around!!!

Ill start by saying as far as greeters go, they should get a new one. We were not even acknowledged when we entered and it wasnt until I spoke to her that the young brunette greeter took my name down. Her attitude made me realize shes the same rude person who answered the phone when I called to make sure they were still open on New Years Day, said yes, and then hung up before I could even ask my next question. Then while our very kind waiteress was busy a very rude waitress she sent over to get our drink orders came and without even saying hello or introducing herself asked what we want to drink. The food was mediocre. The French toast soggy and the home fries cold. Only reason Im even giving this place a 3 is because of the very kind and attentive waitress we had Nicole. They are very lucky to have her because amongst the group of bad attitudes she was a delight.

I heard people raving about this place, but maybe it was just the things we got and the times we went - I was very disappointed. Their breakfast was very average. Tasteless mushy cold home fries, flat small egg portions. I made the mistake the next time of getting their "famous" baked ham with special pineapple sauce... the ham was awful, and the sauce?... Im pretty sure it was just pineapple juice poured from the can. Both waitresses we had were inattentive and unfriendly, but I guess dealing with all the drunks and trash wheb the bars let out each night will do that to you.

Went there for lunch today.. waitress was good ..thats about it.. our food was cold and the orders were wrong.. it wasnt even busy so there was no reason for the wait or the cold food.. not to mention the food upset our stomachs..I eat at many diners and eateries around the north side of the city and this is by far one of the worst .. only reason I gave it 1 star is simply because the waitress was good..forgot to mention..it was freezing in there.. I live close but will drive far to avoid this place..

Good dinner food. Grew up in that area and go there w/ Mom every once in a while. Little disappointed this time. Went for the lunch special which is good till 3:00. It was 3:05 when we ordered. Waitress was able to get me the half sandwich and cup of soup but cook back in the kitchen was very happy. You can imagine the place wasnt very busy at 3:00. Usually a great place to grab a lunch.

I enjoyed going to the Mayfair diner the waitress was very nice and she serve our table in a timely manner. The only thing I didnt like was the other waitresses talking about other people at the counter right across from my table and I go there to eat not to hear the gossip about other people. Especially when it is coming from the waitresses.

First time in this place and it felt like a mad house the girl standing at the chalk board didnt know anything. You had employees talking about how they are ready to walk off the job, I ordered my food to go and when I got home to eat my omelet there was egg shells in it and it was burnt never will I go back my first experience was awful.

The food was not worth the money. The waitress who served me was very rude. She has a nasty attitude the whole time. They kept getting our food mixed up. I will NEVER come back again. Its just a horrible place and needs to be sold and re rented to someone with excellent customer service that wont hire anything off the streets!

I grew up in the Northeast and have eaten here MANY times. I found myself in the Northeast today & decided to stop and have a quick lunch at my "favorite" diner......big mistake! Though it was not crowded, the service was only fair and the food was cold!! It was a total waste of my time and money!!!!!!!

Was there on Sat. 11/15/14 @7PM sitting at the counter. The waitress was ignorant every time that I asked a question. I paid for my iced tea and left. I havent been too Mayfair Diner in 15 years and itll be another 15 years before I even attempt to again.
