After seeing a tv show about ramen, not the kind you buy for 50 cents from the store, I searched out for an authentic ramen restaurant near me. Went to Hiro for the first time two years ago. My first impression was that the restaurant was hard to find due to being so small and mostly black on the outside. Once finding our way in, we grabbed an appetizer and ordered two bowls of ramen. The service was A+ and the ramen was not like I had ever had before! It was amazing! I fell in love with ramen all over again. Every visit to Hiro is the same, excellent service and quality food that is made consistently the same. If you love spicy foods, I recommend the Gates of Hell. If its your first time, get the karaage chicken and a bowl of Hiros Inch of Heaven; you wont be disappointed!

I keep going back to this page because of the superior ramen broth: its very full of gelatin from rendered pig bones and really carries the whole bowl. Also, their karaage chicken is to die for, being made with tender pieces of thigh; their raw octopus and actual wasabi sprouts are also a study in interesting tastes and textures. Their service is no frills ,but quite friendly and attentive .

I had the Inch of heaven Ramen, it was decent. Not as rich and complex in flavors like ramen I had here in Philly China town, but it was still tasty. There was only onw piece of pork belly, I usually get two in other places, same for a nori seaweed piece. I also had takoyaki, it was generous for the price, 5 units. It was quite good, though felt a little undercooked inside.

The ramen was good, but the Karaage (chicken) didnt taste good by itself and the sauce served with it was worse. The menus are a sheet of faded paper that I could barley read. It shows me that the owner doesnt even care about such a small detail. Their menu is small so they should make the effort to make it easier for the customer to understand the menu with pictures.

Have been coming to Hiro Ramen for about 5 years and honestly, best decision I made; I get to have the experience in being in the atmosphere of a traditional Ramen shop. I also enjoy the food as the food have a earthy, down-to-earth, comfort food taste which makes you feel at peace each time. I highly recommend this place especially for all my Persona and Naruto fans

The "gates of hell" ramen was flavorful, about as tasty and cheap as any other good ramen shop in the city; the appetizers here though are incomparably better. Their take on takoyaki is a yam ball with perfectly cooked octopus with the sweet and savory sauce drizzled on top; their boneless fried chicken also impressed with flavors. Would definitely come here again.

I wanted to come here for my birthday to try out a Ramen bar and was not disappointed at all! The food was very fresh and hot and the atmosphere is very cozy. It is small and a little hard to find if you dont know what your looking for. But I promise that this is a spot youll be happy to go to for sure, the Ramen and food there is fantastic!

Stopped by to pickup lunch to take back to the office. Takeout was super fast (<10 minutes) and the service very friendly. As others have noted, it is cash only. Food was excellent! Some of the best chicken Ive had in Philadelphia and Ramen second only to my personal favorite, Cheu Noodle House. Highly recommended!

האוכל טעים . המרק קצת פושר חבל שלא נותנים פלפל. כשמבקשים. הבעיה שהעובדים עובדים בידיים חשופות . ממש לא תיקני ולא הגייני

This ramen is legit. Noodles were slightly chewy as they should be and the broth was delicious. Their gates of hell bowl was a great level of spice for anyone who really likes a good kick. The staff was very friendly and the place has a great clean look. This is ramen done right.

Great tasty soup! Pork was very tasty. They have a small menu which makes it easy to choose. I went for lunch. It was affordable, for the city. In comparison to CHEU NOODLE BAR, the prices are lower here, flavors are similar. Cheu is American infused. Great place. Will go again

Authentic, tasty, Phillys closest to being in a small ramen restaurant in Tokyo...what is not to love about Hiro Ramen. The friendly and talkative owner studied under masters in Japan, he knows what he is doing, so it is safe to say, go no where else in Center City for ramen.

I like the food but cant stand eating in a place that has such loud and obnoxious music. You cant relax or hold a discussion with others. I walk out with indigestion from the music. My coworkers and i have stopped going here after our complaints about the music were ignored.

Good ramen, decent broth. The veg and the pork ramen were both solid. The raw octopus and wasabi was fresh and tasty. The spice bomb definitely upped the otherwise subdued flavors of the broth. Staff was awesome & attentive. The portions are kinda small though. BYOB.

Came in at 345 looking for a ramen place and was told cooks need a 10 minute lunch break so I was told to come back, I have cooked in many restaurants and never turned any customers away if it says you are open! Bringing my business elsewhere for the inconvenience.

Love the ramen. The flavor is excellent and the pork was well marinated but was a little too lean. They should use pork loin with a little bit more fat content. I love the ambiance as it mimics a little bit of what a ramen joint should be.

Tiny ramen place. Cash only. The ramen was good. Tonkotsu broth was a bit on the lighter side (I like thick broth) and the portion size was smaller than some other places in Philadelphia, but still adequate. Decent all around.

Food and price is awesome, the best Raman in Philly. Fair price with awesome food. Their interior is very close to traditional Japanese Raman shop, I can feel the little japan in the Raman shop!! Great place for Raman!! 10/10

The ramen is incredible, Ive tried every kind, but my boyfriend exclusively orders the Gates of Hell with added Naruto. You cant beat the lunch special. The location is cozy and truly I have not had better ramen in Philly.

Delicious!! We came in for lunch, got the lunch special with salad, a small app, and a bowl of Ramen. Everything was excellent. Cant wait to go back. Its a small space, but we had very little wait at 1pm.

Great ramen at great prices. Plenty of appetizers as well - Id recommend their takoyaki. Service can be slow and spotty (at least it has been the 3+ times Ive been there), but the food is worth it.

I have traveled the west coast in pursuit if good ramen and I did not find anywhere that served ramen remotely as good as Hiro.. I eat here 3x week... Hands down my favorite place in Philly.

I love this place, the food, and the location. The chicken makes it even better of a place. Always down with their perfect small menu. The lunch deals are great and should not be missed.
