Regarding Ho Wah in Lemoyne Pa...... My wife, her sister, her mother and I went out to this place for dinner once night last summer. We headed down 83 across the river and got off at the lemoyne exit, went up to market street and turned left, it was then on our left. I remember that there was an apple tree with tons and tons of apples in yard of the property next to it, and my mother-in-law picked like 20 of them and put them in my car. It was fully packed when we first came in, which is usually a good sign that the foods decent. And I remember once reading that this place was voted best Chinese Restaurant in the Capital Area. We were seated right away, after they had cleaned a table and got silver-wear out, it was a booth on the far left side as you enter. It was away from the cash register in a corner. We were handed menus by an asian girl in her twentys and given some time to look over the menu. In the meantime we were given hot tea, and ice cold water as refreshments. after a few minutes of decision we decided to order three entrees. I think it was something like General Tsos Chicken, Seafood Delight and Orange Chicken. So we were waiting and another couple came in, was sat down next to us, given refreshments and menus. They waited their turn and ordered, this was a family, two parents and four kids, maybe aged 10 - 14. they ordered whatever items, and were eventually ordering food... ........... time passes....... its been about 10 minutes...... then another couple came in and sat down, a boyfriend and girlfriend no doubt, they too were given beverages and menus and later placed their order. ........... more time passes............ Our waitress then finally comes by with some fried wontons and duck sauce..... but no food.... then she goes back into the kitchen. She comes out and brings out food that belongs to the table who sat down after us. She then walked back in the kitchen. She comes out next and brings the food that belongs to the table that sat down two people after us. By now Im so pissed off.... my wife and her mom are complaining, and I keep telling them its busy and we should just patiently wait. So finally after about 45 minutes from when we first came in to be seated, I went over and asked them where our food was, the young asian waitress was like "Ill check" she then went back into the kitchen and came out 10 minutes later with all of our food. So finally that we had it we started to eat, we must have had all of the stuff available, and Ill grant you that it was fairly good, and reasonably priced. But the wait was freaking un-bearable, I couldnt believe it, so finally we finished all of our food, asked for a small box, boxed it up and went to pay the bill. Other that asking "wheres our food" I didnt complain or say anything, and I guess the waitress didnt notice at all. As I walked over to the cash register, there was already a man waiting in line, and the waitress who brought our food walked over and rang up the man in front of me, she did say something to the effect of how was everything to the guy before me, but then after she waited on him, he was putting his money in his wallet, she just took the bill and money out of my hand and rang me up. I didnt say anything at all, not one hint of the terrible, appalling discourteous customer service that had befallen me. This is the worst experience Ive had in my life regarding service at a restaurant. We waited nearly an hour for our food. If being cretinous was an Olympic Sport Ho Wah Restaurant would have the Gold Medal.

So our whole office order (6 customers) we were told an hour (alittle extreme but ok) over an hour passed we called in. Told our food has been sitting for over a half hour and that it would be another 20 minutes and that they would NOT give us fresh food. So when it got here everything was cold and soggy. No one could even finish their meals. When we called in for a refund the MANAGER said if you do not like it do not order from us again and to bring the food (out of the trash) to him for him to inspect. Never again and I would not recommend this place to anyone. The best part was the fortune cookie.

For 30, or so, years, my family got take-out from Ho Wahs. Fried rice came in pint and quart containers...now they are termed small and large. Not having been there in some time, having moved from Lemoyne, when we ordered, this time, we asked if the large was the same as a quart. We were told that it was. In fact, it was only about 2/3 ( if that ) of the size it used to be. In addition, the shrimp egg rolls had very little shrimp, and were mostly roll, with little filling. We were very disappointed. We will probably not be ordering from them again.

The fried shrimp appetizer was a horrible start. The entrees made up for it and admittedly good but the service completely ruined the experience. Maybe because I was also Asian, that they felt it was okay to serve me last and ask me to get things right off the shelf myself. Other customers chuckled with me in amazement as the hostess pointed me to the shelf that held the supply. Worst service Ive experienced in this area yet. Too too bad, Id never go back to this place again and will definitely not recommend to anyone.

Ive eaten at Ho Wah several times and the food has always been excellent! My personal favorites are General Tsos Chicken, Orange Chicken or Beef and Sesame Chicken, but their Lo Mein and Chicken and Broccoli with Garlic Sauce is good too. As mentioned in other reviews, the service is mediocre at best, but the food has always made up for it. Id recommend trying Ho Wah or at least suggest it for take-out. However, I’d add 15 minutes to the time they say your take-out will be ready so you don’t have to wait.

If I could give this place less stars I would, food isnt the worst Chinese Ive had, but the attitude of the staff is horrendous. Ive tried this place a couple times now and every time they tell me the food will be ready in 15 minutes, I go in after 15 minutes and generally wait another 20-30 minutes before I get my food. As I wait the staff generally gives me dirty looks. I highly recommend staying away from this place. The worst customer service Ive ever experienced.

The food is excellent. You are served rather quickly. The only wait time is on your food. Each order is made fresh at time of ordering so it never sits under a heat lamp or on the grill waiting for someone to order it. Always plenty of parking even when they are busy. The amount of food you get is amazing with the quality. The prices are really good for all you get. One of my favorite places to go out to eat. I love it there.

You probably wont be fond of the ambiance as there is none. The food, however, is tasty. I consider them one of the better Chinese restaurants when it comes to taste. I like that their fried dishes like General Tsos chicken are crunchier than other places. Nothing ruins batter more than it being puffy or soggy. Where to improve? I would encourage them to be a bit more cheerful and attentive to customers.
